PENCE snubbed at Notre Dame

Of course you wouldn't in the MSM but someone on Twitter that was there said the graduating class was over 3000. She also posted the audible boos when the students decided to walk out at the beginning of Pence's speech. You hear the clapping for VP Pence being introduced and boos toward those walking out. You can watch it here....

https://twitter.com/SummerRatcliff/status/866315862722170883

So it started with dozens of students as in your OP in the reporting to now a hundred students. When reporters are using the word "dozens" then that should be a red flag for a thinking person telling them this is no big deal. What's a hundred students in comparison to 3000? The answer is 3.33333333333%

Whoop tee doo!

Yet it was picked up by the MSM as being a big deal, none which bothered to focus on Pence's excellent commencement speech defending religious liberties and free speech. You know Pence was the guy those who walked out was defending their right to do so.

On another note as a mother, if that was my kid that walked out like that, I would have knocked them up side the head first chance I got for showing such disrespect regardless who the speaker would have been.

C'mon, Mom! "Someone on Twitter" is a news source now, and no, I didn't open the link.

If he really believed in tolerance, he wouldn't be Trump's VP.

He (MP) is another opportunist, just as Hillary Rodham hitched her wagon to Slick Willie, Mike Pence knows what he is doing.

Not surprising, I worked in South Bend and lived in Walkerton for several years. Like night and day, the people in South Bend hated Pence. But the people in Walkerton loved him. City vs Small town mentality, personally I hated him as governor and would rather keep Trump all four years.

Very commonly, colleges will have little in common with the town that was built around them hundreds of years ago

ND is a national private college with ties to the catholic church that has made it notorious for regressive policies. Until a few years ago, gay student groups were banned. Had Pence tried to speak at UMich or Berkeley, thousands would have walked out. In reality, he would not have been invited

Having said that, it does reflect very badly on the speaker when anyone protests their own graduation

# of students that walked out compared to # of students that stayed is not apples to oranges. Please read my post slowly and carefully. ;)

Pfft it was their own graduation, ND is small and hardly ever protests anything. Context

Had it been some nobel prize winning author instead of a hater useless politician, there would have been ZERO to walk out. That's who should've been invited

If he really believed in tolerance, he wouldn't be Trump's VP.

He wouldn't have signed the license to discriminate law as governor

He looks like a hypocrite talking about tolerance and community. He has actually defended Trump in the past. He speaks about tolerance as a matter of convenience.

Pence whined about free speech and civility, forgetting that free speech means people don't have to listen to you, and a silent walk out is about the most civil protest imagineable. What a douche.

C'mon, Mom! "Someone on Twitter" is a news source now, and no, I didn't open the link.

The point of posting the link to a twitter feed is because there was video that captured the boos in reaction to the students walking out. Something that seems to be missing in much of the coverage of this non-story.

The group behind the small walkout is a leftist political group on campus.

The coverage this non- story received in the MSM was over the top. But we know why as it has been that way since November when Trump won. Any little molehill the MSM stumbles on in regard to the Trump administration, they magnify into a mountain.

You made your views of Pence known in post #27 so of course anything that could show him in a derogatory way you jumped right on it.

Unfortunately, you didn't bother to even mention the depth of his speech defending free speech on campuses, the very thing that allowed those students to walk out during commencement in protest and neither did the MSM.

First , apparently you did not read OP article that said it was expected about 50 students would walk out but it was about 100.

Whoever posted on Twitter that the graduation class was 3,000 was mistaken.

There were 2, 081 degrees. ( some like my son-law may have received 2 degrees).

It doesn't matter if the number is over 2000 and not 3000.
The point is, it was a very small percentage who engaged in the walkout. It was a non-story. This type of thing happens with regularity on campuses across the country. It was made into a big deal by the MSM. It was organized by a campus political group on the left to use their commencement to show disrespect to a conservative who happens to be the VP of a president that they despise. It's a shame they didn't stick around to listen to the speech, they might have realized the very thing that they engaged in was a form of free speech that Pence very eloquently discussed and encouraged and that no one should be silenced just because you don't agree with them.

Dozens of students walked out on VP Pence at commencement. Administration policies were cited for the protest.

Dozens of Notre Dame Students Walk Out of VP Mike Pence Commencement Speech - NBC News

It's sad how disrespectful and rude the kids today are. You don't agree with his politics, fine, go to a political rally. This is a graduation where the VP of the USA takes out time to go there and make a speech (nothing to do with politics) and has rude little snot nose entitled kids walk out. If they are an example of where our future is heading, sad.

This. I oppose the types of protests that block the other side from speaking. The type of protest mentioned in the OP, however, is about as benign as it gets.

I don't think protests of any kind should be at a graduation. People, kids and parents, look forward to that occasion for years, and it's just inconsiderate, rude and entitled for kids to choose that time for their little protest. Save it for a political event.

As you deduced from post # 27, you have made your alligience very clear. As I stated, I have heard VP Pence speak publicly before. I have another post on this board about words that just don't go well together, and Mike Pence and eloquence are a few more. And the students in question chose only to silence the speaker to their own ears.

On another slant, you reference numbers in post #23 and then someone refutes those numbers #24, then you post numbers don't matter, post # 34. So which way is it?

Dozens of Notre Dame Students Walk Out of VP Mike Pence Commencement Speech - NBC News
I get that they strongly disagree with his politics. I agree they have the right to walk out, and I will defend said right. That right should never be taken away. I am not a fan of Pence, ftr.

However, having said all that, I view their walk-out... their protest... as rude and childish. It says more about them than they realize, and not in a positive way.

ETA: Someone mention the potential for violence or disruption. I do commend them for staging a peaceful protest. Not even any shouting down, etc. For that they deserve serious kudos. While I still think it rude and childish, I may rethink the level of my disapproval. If one feels they must protest, this was probably the best way to do it.

Yep, the handful that walked out are the big news, not the thousands that stayed and heard a fine address. Not a tad of media bias at NBC could be implied.

That's normal, though. Both in reporting and in scale of protest. Let's get real, it's sensationalism that sells, not rationality.

Yep - resist, resist, resist is front page news because that is needed to make typical far-left fringe activity appear to be a national movement of great importance. ;)

That's exactly what is going on.

Oh my GOODNESS I'm just so upset that someone would be RUDE to the Vice President to the rudest ****wad on the planet.

Trump/Pence want respect? They're gonna have to ****in earn it for once.

Such a mature post. Got any evidence of Pence being a racist? I will defer to your expertise on the subject as to whether he is a dick or not though.

I feel absolutely no compulsion to cater to the Trump-voting snowflakes who get so darned triggered when someone dares be RUDE to them, or their illustrious golden idiot.

You people literally voted for a guy because he was a vicious, disgusting asshole and have the nerve to whine about someone silently and peacefully walking out.

This is what you people wanted. Americans tellin it like it is.

1. You don't know me, or who I voted for.
2. I am not whining, I'm giving my opinion. If you don't like it, go on past and STFU
3. I don't care who the speaker was. It was a GRADUATION, not a political event. It was rude.
4. Please don't procreate.

Immaturity + anger + hatred = the emotive Trump hater.

^^^ Part of the problem.

There's a time and a place for everything. I suppose you'd have preferred they shouted him down and made a scene and disrupted the other student's ceremony.

I applaud the students for a polite and peaceful method of protest. Make up whatever you like. Trump's snowflake followers can wring their hands all day, but they're hypocrites for doing so.
