Texas has only sales, excise and property taxes and lacks an income tax. Yep, it's hard to have tax credits (targeted to the poor) without income (tax?) information to base them on. Texas does offer property tax breaks (credits?) but not based on income.

BTW, you can rest assured that Texas did not cause the illegals to get the heck out.

Get rid of the property and excise taxes too. Raise the sales taxes and no one free loads. The illegals will head back home :-)

Have you looked at employment statistics? Google is your friend.

It depends on how you implement the tax, but you could just as well have transfer payments of any sort, targeting poorer citizens to offset some of the regressive effect of the tax.

Why would you need tax credits?

Without retailers and warehoused goods having taxes on them through each profit step, competition would drive the base price of items down. If you only tax the sale of nonessential items, the poor would probably be better off than today.

No, we need property taxes. Otherwise, rich people will purposely accumulate as much property as they can, and drive up property prices in general.

I think everyone should have skin in the game. Maybe if the homeless knew they were paying taxes they would take better care of their surroundings.
