Medicare pays doctors more than Medicaid does?

Medicare pays approximately 80% of accepted medical fees, Medicaid around 60%. But that does vary by state. Around where I live there are doctors that won't accept Medicaid or limit the number of Medicaid patients because they usually lose money when seeing those types of patients.

I know with Medicare the patients is responsible for the final 20% or they have what is known as Medicare supplemental insurance. I haven't the faintest idea of who is responsible for the remaining 40% with Medicaid. That too may vary by state. Just keep in mind the numbers are approximate or average.

Perotista, your post explicitly or implys our federal government is effectively directly paying for healthcare providers' or the patients' insurers' reimbursements at a rate of 80% for Medicare, and 60% for Medicaid.

Medicaid are state-administered insurance plans subject to some federal oversight and regulations. The federal government pays the states for some, but not all of the states' Medicaid net costs, (which is additional effectively indirect federal payments for Medicaid reimbursement expenditures. I suppose Medicaid patients do not pay for any medicaid provided goods or services.

(Medicare's 20% of their schedule of allowable fees are subject to health providers' collection efforts and are often uncollectable).

On medicaid I stated it does vary by state. Perhaps I should have expanded that statement. There are times I assume folks know what I am talking about when they don't.
