‘We Are Part of the Problem’: Billionaires and Heirs Demand Wealth Tax

“We are writing to call on all candidates for President, whether they are Republicans or Democrats, to support a moderate wealth tax on the fortunes of the richest one-tenth of the richest 1% of Americans -- on us,” according to a letter signed by 19 individuals -- one anonymously -- and posted online Monday. “The next dollar of new tax revenue should come from the most financially fortunate, not from middle-income and lower-income Americans.”

They can see that it's time to address the issue of wealth inequality in this country, as can a lot of other people. Can we do it without shouting about "Marxism," socialism," and such?

No, I don't think we can, either. But the issue needs to be addressed.

You may want to ask a mod to merge the two threads, I started one on this topic earlier. A Message From the Billionaire’s Club: "Tax Us"

So, you're one of the super rich?

And yet "liberals" have you in debt?

And you have no money to speak of?

My expression:

Do you have any reason to think that or is it pure liberal goofing???

Ronald Reagan gave the wealthy their first tax break and then taxed social security to pay for it. So wrong and other republicans have continued to reduce their tax breaks. So who do you think pays for it?

I dunno.... who pays for it... Just a moment, let me get my mirror.

The top 1%.
The top 1 percent paid a greater share of individual income taxes (37.3 percent) than the bottom 90 percent combined (30.5 percent).

There's too much dishonest idiocy here.

Liberals have us in debt $30 trillion!!

Clinton inherited a yearly deficit. He left with a surplus.

Bush inherited that surplus. His last fiscal year resulted in a deficit over one trillion dollars (he first increased the debt to ~440 billion/year via tax cuts for the richest and Medicare D; he signed TARP in his last year, several hundred billion more right there).

Obama inherited that over-trillion dollar yearly deficit. By the time he left, he had brought it down to just around Bush's 440 billion/year.

Trump inherited that 440 billion/year. He now has us borrowing over a trillion a year for, you got it, more tax cuts for the rich.

Please stop lying.

Please stop saying such idiotic things.

Thank you.

Do you understand??

Yes. <----- also, note the number of punctuation marks.

You clearly do not.

I dunno... top 10%? Maybe. Certainly not the top 1%. I do know that federal income taxes are a major expense.

top 1% pays 44 % of all income tax collected by IRS. Its stealing from our more productive and innovative folks. Its so stupid and counterproductive only a liberal would want it

.

Dear, Clinton was a liberal, big spender. Newt balanced the budget, not Clinton, by promising a Balanced Budget Amendment which would in effect make liberalsim illegal as our Founders intended. Now do you understand?

But as a liberal you lack the IQ to say why its Idiocy- right?

Contemptible personal attack aside, you do realize that your response is in the same thread as my post, right? Mine 12, yours 16, this one 19. Same page for almost everyone, unless someone does 5/page.

So you realize that someone can scroll up and see I specifically focused on your claim that "liberals" are the ones who have us 30 trillion in debt (I think you're off by some trillions, but anyway), and said the part you dishonestly cut out from your quote:

Liberals have us in debt $30 trillion!! Do you understand??

Me in response:

The debt is mostly conservatives. You keep slashing taxes, then blaming the left for not slashing spending to meet your demands. The people you vote for don't even care about slashing spending. You're doing it. You're the ones at fault. Raise us back to Clinton rates. If people feel too much pain, then we can talk about cutting spending. That first. Not the other way - the stupid way - your way - around.

We are the ones who want to pay for what we spend. You are the ones who want to spend then demand "the left" pays your bill.

Only a liberal would support a graduated income tax, such as we've had for several decades?

Please explain how you came to that conclusion.

But as a liberal you lack the IQ to say why its Idiocy- right? How did i know that.

You just call anyone you disagree with a "liberal."
Several others do the same thing.
You have no idea what you're talking about, no working definition of the term "liberal." You just throw that term around with no idea what it means.

It is an example of intellectual laziness.

Our Founders were conservative ie against govt and for freedom. Liberals like HItler Stalin Mao FDR were the opposite. Now do you understand?

Conservative intellectuals support capitalism not corrupting it with progressive taxes which turn half the population into entitled leeches who hate those off of whom they leech.

Contemptible personal attack aside,.

why contemptible?? you said "idiocy" but had no reason to say why it was idiocy. Thats not debate!!!It was pure liberal violence and reflected your intellectual inability to debate ie to say why it was idiocy. Anyone can call names and imagine their feelings are based on the truth. Isn't that what you do??

Clinton was a typical big spending liberal. It was Newt who was fiscally responsible and it was Newt who made Clinton lie and say "the era of big govt is over".
