Can someone who knows economics tell me if the fact that a government announces that there will be elections imminently in a country, can paralyze the economy of that country to a certain extent, until the results of the elections are known?

Paralyze? Generally not, but it is at least a bit standard for there to be some decisions that can be held in a pending state until things are settled. Of course in some cases like the U.S., the election itself can cause a lot of money to be spent that might not otherwise and that can have some benefits that come along with it too.

Just looking at the United States there was a small slow down in 2016, but the economy was still growing in a positive direction. 2008 obviously saw a major crash, but that can't be blamed on an election year. 1999 definately saw a little dip. I would argue that had more to do with general fears about Y2K and a government Surplus than the election itself though.

I would like to understand the causes of fluctuations in my business. Until a week ago it was growing strong, and suddenly, I do not know what cause, I have one week with bad days and very few sales in the country where I sell the most.
Maybe for the carnivals? Announcement of elections? If there has been an alien invasion I have not heard
