they prevent national suicide by preventing the protection of our industries from international competition. Liberal protection from competition would make our industries second and third rate and thus be tantamount to national suicide.

Tell it to your Messiah then.

Guess that makes Trump a liberal, then. :lamo

Pro abortion, pro gun control, pro universal health care... seems like a liberal to me

Certainly based on past rhetoric. But based on actions he has taken as President that no longer seems to be the case. At least in regard to those three issues. He is certainly not free trade, though.

Technically he doesn't qualify as either, but that concept is way beyond the OP's grasp.

Its hard to qualify as anything but a weasel when you take every side of every position

except when he needs it for his businesses to make money...

conservatives generally love him for wall, SCOTUS, repeal, tax cuts, reg cuts, anti abortion. Do you understand?

At least one in this very thread doesn't love him. I'd ask "do you understand?" but it's obvious you don't.

what's to understand?? Conservatives generally love him for wall, SCOTUS, repeal, tax cuts, reg cuts, anti abortion. Do you understand?

I understand that you've been reduced to cutting and pasting...

you said conservatives don't like Trump and I said, wrong. they love him for for wall, SCOTUS, repeal, tax cuts, reg cuts, anti abortion. Do you understand now that you were wrong? This is yes or no question?

Have you stopped beating your sister? "This is yes or no question?"

I understand that your babbling is not worthy of a response, so here is this automated reply.

Who would have guessed? Certainly not me. I always thought American businesses were competent to compete.

He is clearly for free trade. He is against unfair or stupid trade. China, as an example, charges tariffs of up to 90% on some U.S. made products. Why should we put up with it? Cheap goods apparently are more important than national interest.

I'm afraid you missed the point. If American business is protected from international competition it soon will be unable to compete internationally. Now do you understand?

also don't forget the free trade deals have been very successful instruments of foreign policy. Republicans converted China to capitalism then knitted them into international commerce. That's a whole lot better than having them us an enemy.

OK, so you and I can like good trade and not like bad trade as much as the next guy but maybe we should translate that into what's going on here. So far I like current trade policy:
  • no more talk of import tax hikes
  • renegotiate NAFTA, just like it's been renegotiated many times in the past.
  • begin negotiating new trade agreements
...China, as an example, charges tariffs of up to 90% on some U.S. made products...
--and so they were never with us on say, TPP. Meanwhile the the fact that the Chinese are forced by their government to pay high import taxes is hardly a reason for me to start wanting to pay high import taxes to my government.
