The 'hard work' talking point, in one simple comic strip

Delusionary unadulterated fanciful bull****. Applying inaccurate boogieman "privilege" stereotypes regarding one side while making unrealistic stereotypical excuses for the failings of the other. Read my sig below.

Your sig is wrong. There is no such thing as a self-made individual. Never has been, never will be.

You ever hear of the saying "Shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in three generations."?

Outdated. Just look at the Trumps. Or the Rockefellers. Carnegies. Kerry/Heinze. Ford. Shall I go on?

The circumstances of your birth absolutely influence the outcome of your life. Determine? No. But heavily influence? Obviously.

Are we saying that a poor kid can't get rich? No. But the odds much more heavily against them than someone born upper middle, or already well off. That's a provably, statistically backed up FACT.

Your sig huh?

So, why isn't a private school with the highest paid teachers, all the best equipment, a well stocked library, comfortable surrondings, a pool, and good lunches available to all kids?

As long as well tell every kid born that if they aren't already rich at birth that they probably won't make it, and everything bad in their life is the fault of someone else and a system built to keep them down, then sure, they'll stay down, stay poor, and keep voting Democrat. But, that's the point, isn't it?

The cartoon in the OP is exactly what I said in my first post in this thread - - Delusionary unadulterated fanciful bull****.

Nothing more motivating than economic determinism!

my thoughts on this : while no comic strip can explain the full complexity of the socioeconomic divide, i didn't find too much wrong with this example. i didn't grow up in the top socioeconomic tier, but due to my parents being hard working teachers and the union that represented them so that we could live a comfortably middle class lifestyle, i admit that i had a tremendous advantage. not all kids get a leg up like that, and there's no damned way that i'm going to point a finger at anyone and advise them to bootstrap. instead, i will advocate for improved educational opportunities for all regardless of means, and i would gladly agree to pay more in taxes if the additional revenue was used for that.

That was a slow pitch, thanks. Because the Democrats refuse to allow for School Vouchers so parents can send their kids to the best schools and have the money follow them.

A pool? Reached for that one, huh.

Of course there are exceptions lol.

Generally speaking though, the saying holds true.

If you got "self-made individual" out of my sig, it explains a lot about why you think the OP cartoon is anything other than the bull**** it really is.

No, not a slow pitch; a reasonable question that you're apparently not able to answer.

The difference in schools has always been there - why?

Choices huh? Ever see Sophie's Choice?

Have you ever worked for a living?

It's not just educational, but occupational as well. It's much easier to work from the gorund up when there are more places to work

That's not what I said, and not what this cartoon was about. You're reading into my post what isn't there.

Not really. If anything, wealth gathered over generations, now.

You're changing the question now. I answered the first question.

To answer your next question, there's no one answer. It could have historically been due to differing school district criteria, or management requirements, or Jim Crow laws, or a hundred other reasons because until the late 1980's there was no national standard. We can't simplify this question.

I disagree. I think it is incredibly far and few between, but it does happen sometimes. I agree mostly with your original sentiment though. Class is really freaking important.

Your first answer was silly an uninformed adn over looked the obvious.

So, once again: why aren't the very best schools open to every kid?

Secondly, I'm adding a question that enhances the meaning of the first.

Why do those educational differences exist?

And have you ever worked for a living?

and it's much easier to work from the ground up when you are highly educated and not drowning in debt. i advocate this solution to the problem.

Fine. Then if that's the level of respect you'll show me and the level of intelligence you'll put into a post to me, just ignore my posts because I would hate to be the reason of any confusion for you.

Don't ask me again if I've ever worked for a living. It's a personal insult to me, and you damn well know it.
