Capitalism vs Socialism boiled down to the basics

Tribal governments held no sway within Mogadishu.... You are clearly lost in the weeds. There was no state and businesses still existed.

That happened and no amount of spin changes that fact.

there is a difference between there being no rule of law from of a central national government, and there being no state or government of any kind.

there is a difference between there being no rule of law from of a central national government, and there being no state or government of any kind.

And Somalia is a textbook example of there being no state or government of any kind....

No state or government.

None.

Nada.

Zilch.

Zero.

Roving clans in technicals are not a state or government.

Your intentional ignorance about conditions in Somalia is growing old.

HOW OUR GOVERNANCE WORKS

Do you want a "balance" between healthy cells and diseased cells in your body?

Our body does exactly that intelligently well without our thinking about it. It is fundamental to your survival as a human animal, since all animals do the same.

We are talking about the same as regards our "governmental system", which is in a sorry state of affairs. Why? Because without a comprehension of how our tripartite system of governance (Executive, Legislative and Judicial) actually works, then how can we have a good opinion of "how it should function".

And on that score, as a nation, we aren't doing so well. From Newsweek: "HOW (Politically*) IGNORANT ARE AMERICANS?". Excerpt:
They’re the sort of scores that drive high-school history teachers to drink. When NEWSWEEK recently asked 1,000 U.S. citizens to take America’s official citizenship test, 29 percent couldn’t name the vice president. Seventy-three percent couldn’t correctly say why we fought the Cold War. Forty-four percent were unable to define the Bill of Rights. And 6 percent couldn’t even circle Independence Day on a calendar.

Don’t get us wrong: Civic ignorance is nothing new. For as long as they’ve existed, Americans have been misunderstanding checks and balances and misidentifying their senators. And they’ve been lamenting the philistinism of their peers ever since pollsters started publishing these dispiriting surveys back in Harry Truman’s day. (He was a president, by the way.) According to a study by Michael X. Delli Carpini, dean of the Annenberg School for Communication, the yearly shifts in civic knowledge since World War II have averaged out to “slightly under 1 percent.”

And on the score of "understanding the system", we are - as a nation - very confused. Further from the above article:
Most experts agree that the relative complexity of the U.S. political system makes it hard for Americans to keep up. In many European countries, parliaments have proportional representation, and the majority party rules without having to “share power with a lot of subnational governments,” (ie., the states)...

THE IMPORTANCE OF UNDERSTANDING "GOVERNANCE"

It's important to understand our public governance. There are a great many articles on Corporate Governance on the Internet, but damn few about Public Governance. Which is precisely where we, as a nation, are lacking. A recent study showed how badly (from Don't know much about history).

At present, more than 90 percent of U.S. high school grads get a semester in civics and at least a year of U.S. history. But something is clearly not sticking.

A Xavier University study showed that while 97.5 percent of those applying for citizenship pass the test, only two out of three Americans can do the same. Raise the bar to answering seven of ten questions correctly — still pretty low — and half of us fail.

So, what's a country fascinated by electoral razzmatazz supposed to do? My suggestion: Focus on the underlying facts and not the News Hoopla! Seek well-thought editorial opinions in the web news-magazines. Condition your reasoning with the facts, not the media-version!

What is missing, imho, is a solid foundation in how our Tripartite System works.

More importantly, once you know "how" the system works, then you can understand the Why&How it is being manipulate by BigMoney. If you are one of the hundreds of millions of American who allow their political judgement be formulated in the same manner we do our grocery shopping - off the BoobTube - then you are likely to vote for the Commercialized Version of the candidate that you see on TV.

Go beyond the BoobTube and seek the underlying details of a candidacy (and the debate surrounding them) - that is where the candidate explains what they plan on doing once in office. Or they should, and if they haven't you have good reason to be looking elsewhere.

MY POINT?

Yes, that's one helluva lotta work - for most of us who work making a living. But, what's a living worth without a governance that seeks the Well-being of all our citizens, and not just a select few ....

*My insertion because I don't think most Americans are ignorant.

Some people absolutely must have the last word.

You've had yours. Feel better now ... ?
