Two Important Announcements from the President

***ANNOUNCEMENT***

I am delaying my resignation. I will remain in office until Vasuda returns and a VP takes office and we take care of one last thing that needs to be addressed before I resign

If you have a problem with it, I suggest you send a complaint via PM to the President of the convention and he will give it the consideration it is due.

In other words, don't bother.

While it may be charming in the Mafia games, I don't think it's appropriate for what we all are working on.

Again, just letting you know that you're not actually being persecuted or anything.

Did I claim that? I just want civilized discussion, not trolling. If you like trolling, I recommend you go to the Mafia games; apparently it's a good place for it.

1) As president, I have made an executive decision that, in order to help ensure that this conference maintains a sustainable level of activity, we should allow any DP poster who wishes to join the convention to do so by contacting the president or the Sec'y and requesting to be made a member.
.

Who gave you that power? Why wouldn't that be subject to vote by the committee?

That seems a reasonable decision. All of us who were initially members just showed up and said "I want to be a member". I don't see any problem with new members coming aboard by contacting the president or the secretary.

This kind of decision is WHY we have officers, so we don't have to vote on every single thing.

I'm sure if Vasaudatorrent was available (seems to be away for the holidays) they would agree.

Sangha, you're doing a great job at keeping this moving forward in spite of those who want to derail it. This is a momentary glitch, but I think we can move it forward.

The convention makes the rules, not the President. Those rules are to be put to a vote.

I think the Presidents expeditious withdrawal might speed things up. He should bow out gracefully so the committees business can continue. Perhaps you can convince him.

He's staying put for now Tory.

Perhaps not for long, but even if so he's beautifully demonstrated the decent into authoritarianism. Better than I could have dreamed, really.

When the revolutionary war ended, Washington was appointed to the office of President. There wasn't any separation of powers at that time. Orphan slug is speaking the truth. He's just a little premature. Maybe government branches are where we should start.

That's an interesting thought. To make it work there will have to be more than 9 people participating, not just voting. It's getting pretty low.

Washington went out of his way to avoid the appearance of being a dictator-better than anyone had hoped frankly. We clearly can't hope for the same from this president and I dont see how the forum can continue if its subject to his whims. Talk about uninspiring.

Its getting even lower because our President has demonstrated he thinks everything is subject to his whim. But in any case its not your concern-you aren't a convention member.

I dont think that you understood me. I meant a site that is not DP that would be entirely ran for and by the delegates. Again I am not suggesting to do that, but it does make the most logical sense (to me at least). That is if people were serious enough to do something like that.

You can try it. On other forums I've seen people try and people just won't go to it. I've even seen where it announced a highly active and old forum closing and with members with post counts over 100,000, for which the created a replacement forum everyone could go to - and it failed within a month.

There are a FEW people willing to devote some attention to the inner workings and small details of such as this Convention, but very few when it comes down to it. Lots of ideas by people, very few actual doers.

But, again, this could be done as a social group. There people can be allowed and disallowed. What seems obvious is with so few participating in this now, how much smaller would it get requiring the jump? Many folks have tried to get social groups going and few participate and not for long.

If you look at the forum, interest in topics drops very quickly. Unless there is constant new blood (new members) the Convention will go the same way. That's just how it is on every forum and every topic. People come and people go. If they can only go and no one can come except by jumping thru hoops, it dies quickly.

Here's another example. The Stephen Colbert forum (when still in existence) which was moderated was getting so massively trolled, they put in place a rule that it required approval to be a member. Just send an email to the admin who would then approve you. Not only would NO potential new members bothered, most of the long time members wouldn't either. Things aren't based upon how they ideally should be, but rather how they really work. Why is participation dropping? Because people AREN'T excluded? That makes no sense.

Attacking the elected President incessantly all over the Convention at some point is nothing but trolling and attention whoring. This isn't the basement. Most understand your goal is not the continuation of the Convention.

Joko, you aren't a convention member so frankly you can go pound sand.

Yes I am. Point to any rule that was passed that says I'm not.

I not only was offered membership by Pirate, he offered me to take his role over all of it. Sangha did too and if I remember so did Vasu - long before you just made up the rule that no one could join in your personal tantrum over no one even nominating you to be an officer. I accepted the offer, BUT no offer necessary as there has NEVER been a legitimately established rule to exclude anyone. You just made that up thinking YOU could be the dictator - and you're not.

You keep pretending you are the dictator just making up non-existent rules, but you still are not nor ever will be. You constant lamenting that you aren't the President is self embarrassing. You aren't president because NO ONE wanted you to be.

As long as I don't continually violate what looks like the new rules against severe trolling, baiting and flaming I'm here to stay. In fact, there has not been one second that any member couldn't post nor one second there was any voted on any rule barring anyone. If you follow those rules, you'll get to stay too. If you don't, if you constantly break them to be disruptive, likely you won't.

Again I am not suggesting to do that, I was just following logic not suggesting that it ought to be done. And I am also not who you should be talking to if you wish to discuss exclusive memberships and what not, I am a entirely different person than US Conservy over there, hell I am not even a Conservative. Most of the time he seems pretty opposed to what i have to say.

Excuse me if I misunderstood you. Seriously, my mistake if I did.

I and a handful of remaining members appear to be the only ones who wish to stick to the rules. Im sorry, but you just aren't a member.
