Two Important Announcements from the President

i was replying to dogbreath

it was about your post 14

go back and read please

I know what I said, but I don't get your point.

So, run that by me please?

Run what by you? I see a question mark, but I don't see a question

Just FYI, it's no different in the Mafia games. There's all sorts of flaming in those threads. It's part of the charm.

The absence of rules can be a good thing if the situation calls for it. The Basement is a good example of this.

IMO, the convention is not one of those situations

Why do you want to quit?

Because, if a poster wants to engage in baiting, trolling, flaming, or derailing a thread (amonst other things) they can do so without consequence

Do you not like the consequence that I have suggested?

Not really. I don't think it will work.

Your suggestion requires a unanimous agreement to shun/ignore posters that disrupt the conference. I do not think that can be achieved and if it could, there would be no need for a president.

Just wanted to point out that this is nothing new or special. Really though, can any of you point to a series of posts or maybe a thread that shows all this extreme trolling and stalking by non participants?

I guess the trolls win then.

I'm out.

No, just vote yes in the poll. If a majority vote yes, in extreme instances of trolling the officers could block that person out.

Why do so many just throw in the towel so fast? I mean, there would be no Constitution and Bill of Rights if the founders felt that way. If there is a problem, stick around. Fix it. The officers need some authority and need the forum staff to back it up if need be. All need be done is vote to give it to the Convention officers.

It's not trolls hurting most handicapping the Convention, it's people who quit too easily.

Do you necessarily need to moderate it? Surely we can formulate some reasonably parliamentary rules and put in place an enforcement mechanism that doesn't require one person to play cop.

I would take agreement of the officers - not just one person nor even one moderator.

I guess that you guys dont read mod warnings?

"Moderator's Warning:
There is already rules against trolling, baiting and flaming. Since there is already rules against such this is worthless and is considered as playing mod. This thread is now closed."

There has been a communication failure between forum staff at this point. The poll is entirely legit and it's essence and purpose was approved.

There is now one moderator with a sticky on this sub-forum - Helix, who also put the Convention on DP games saying those rules will not be enforced - and now a thread closure by 'Stang saying they will.

Again, the substance, purpose and functionality of the poll topic was approved before being posted. However, there are many moderators on the forum and 'Stang didn't know that, so it a communication problem. Those are easily corrected one way or the other. Either the topic of the poll will be reopened as a real topic vote of real effect - or 'Stang's claim that forum rules will be enforced across the board is the final decision.

I'm ok with either one of those as both address the potential problem.

Hopefully, this will be cleared up tomorrow one way or the other. Looks like both those moderators have called it a night. Either the poll will reopen or forum rules will be enforced. I guess we'll find out which moderator is the final decision tomorrow hopefully.

Communication issue solved, the poll is back up. It is up to delegates to decide if they want officers to have no authority whatsoever, or if in agreement to deal with a serious hacking/troll/stalking problem that continues even after warnings and hearing the person's reason and defenses.

Personally I vote for forum rules and perhaps moving the subforum to a more appropriate place?

While it may be charming in the Mafia games, I don't think it's appropriate for what we all are working on.

1) As president, I have made an executive decision that, in order to help ensure that this conference maintains a sustainable level of activity, we should allow any DP poster who wishes to join the convention to do so by contacting the president or the Sec'y and requesting to be made a member.

As a result of that decision, I'd like everyone to welcome our newest member, Joko104

2) It has just come to my attention that this forum is operating under the rules that are different from the rest of DP.

As it's been explained to me, this means that the mods will not infract anyone for anything that is worth less than 10 point. In other words, things like baiting, flaming, and trolling are allowed in this forum. Since I have no interest in moderating a forum which allows such behavior, I am resigning my position as president and handing the presidency to the only other officer the convention has - Vasudatorrent. My decision becomes effective as soon as Vasudatorrent accepts his new position.

Welcome, Joko104! I appreciate your contributions so far!

And Sangha - please don't quit! Radioman & I are still working on the palace revolt plans, but please no quitting!

(and ps - "palace revolt plans" is a joke!)

That's not in the cards. It was forum staff who moved it here. That's their call for whatever reason. Probably had to do with it not being equal for all members (the delegate thing). I don't think they'd allow a regular sub-forum that isn't open to everyone and there is no way to set up software for voting by delegates-only.

Logically the best solution would be a board solely for the convention. Not that its something I would want to do, it just made logical sense.

This is a subforum (or board) just for the Convention.

If you mean someone creating a whole new forum just for it? In a way it comes down to the same thing. Would their be moderators? Officers? What would their power be? Who decides who can join? What if someone is just trolling and spamming? How to get someone off the forum? Who decides? The same issues would come up on any forum - either as a forum or subforum.

Dang....I thought it was real.....I'll scrap my take-over plans.

People were getting a little too serious, so I thought I better throw them off track...

Midnight, cemetery, secret handshake... see you there!

I dont think that you understood me. I meant a site that is not DP that would be entirely ran for and by the delegates. Again I am not suggesting to do that, but it does make the most logical sense (to me at least). That is if people were serious enough to do something like that.

Who gave you that power? Why wouldn't that be subject to vote by the committee?

If you have a problem with it, I suggest you send a complaint via PM to the President of the convention and he will give it the consideration it is due.

I see no need to discuss it privately. I want to know who gave the President that power. Seems a bit Orwellian to me, but thats hardly surprising.
