Constitutional Convention Preamble[W:425]

The known propensity of a democracy is to licentiousness which the ambitious call, and ignorant believe to be liberty . Fisher Aimes

before you call others partisan, you might check the content of your own statements.

of course, I'm not a moderator, and I'm not trying to do the moderator's job. But if you do have a problem with the moderation, please contact a moderator or Sangha directly.

Now in terms of this quote- what a bunch of BS. Do you have any proof to support it?

yes.. i hate democracy......AS A "FORM" OF GOVERNMENT.

meaning a democratic form of government.

i have no problem and WANT democracy as a single element, of REPUBLICAN form government

the only people who want democracy are people who do not understand democracy what it truly is or people who are socialist and know exactly what it is.

"democracy is the road to socialism", as Karl Marx

"democracy is indispensable to socialism." - Vladimir Lenin

Pure democracy would be a disaster, IMO

All power would reside in individuals capable of gathering, motivating, and directing the attention of large groups of people, because they would be able to get whatever they wanted to happen (or were paid to make happen)...happen.

Essentially it would be rule by majority, and the temporary whims of said majority at that.

It is my understanding that this is in part the reason the US (and other similar governments) decided when forming to have a representational democracy - the people elect representatives and task them with governing them.

It is also why the senators were originally chosen by the states, to provide an additional layer (the state legislature) between the people and the government.

Of course all that was changed to eliminate gerrymandered districts ensuring a given party would always hold a specific senatorial seat.

They still gerrymander stuff of course, but now it doesn't effect senatorial elections to the same degree.

the u.s. has a republican form of government

representative democracy is a democratic form

"The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence"

I'm not sure I understand the distinction between a republican form of government and a representational democracy.

I'm not sure I understand the distinction between a republican form of government and a representational democracy.

That's because they describe different qualities of the govt and are not mutually exclusive.

Basically, a republic is any form of govt that doesn't have a king or monarch as its' head of state. A non-democratic govt can be a republic and a democratic govt can have a monarch (though that probably wouldn't work out so well)

partisan statement,............ and no warning from the president?
Oh, don't worry.
It was just a joke.
Hopefully, our fledgling constitution will survive the blow.
You're not planning to introduce an anti-humor clause are you?
Only Paleocon will support such a move.

putting your comment aside....how do you explain a person stating [It's not about Obama, progressives] in post 319

tells people make to make hack comments and then does it himself, talking about libertarians.

Just a reminder for all that this thread is for discussion of the Preamble of our constitution. It's not about Obama, progressives or who's going to pay for your yacht

This forum is not the place for hackish comments about other posters.

As I've pointed out before, the right-libertarians hate democracy

our President of the convention has clearly abused his power

Uh-oh.....I smell the stench of rebellion in the air.
Are you already advocating impeachment?

i advocating nothing, ..but i am stating plainly, he has already abused his power with me before, which i had to go to a mod about.

now he tells people not to talk about progressives, then the turns around and talks about libertarians, and when questioned on it...he issues a warning to me who brought it up.... :doh

after this post he more then likely going to send me a PM, and tell me i broke a rule warning me, and tell me to keep it a secret his PM from the rest of you.......... as he has already done before.

this is a perfect example of how people when given a little power, can let it go to their head and abuse that power.

This thread is about the preamble. Please talk about the topic and do not derail a thread in which DP mods have already posted more than one warning.

Sangha's no Dick Cheney.
Is it possible you're taking this entire exercise a little too seriously?
In the end, it's just us girls, sittin' around, drinkin' coffee and opinionatin'.

PS: I dropped the g's so I'd sound more folksy.:)

Oh....well....I will accept my impending thread ban as the price I must pay for freedom.
Give me liberty or give me death.

i am not asking you be banned my friend, and if its your FREEDOM, to say whatever you wish, then others on this thread should have never been questioned to begin with.

i asking that the rules apply to everyone, including the President himself.

and if anyone finds themselves banned......i dont think it going to change the shape of the world for them....including me.

So I can't remember - did you pick a preamble you prefer? or have comments on them? I kind of lost track.... sorry!

Frankly I would prefer that we address actions and statements, rather than assumed predilections.

Far too often I see someone who appears to be desperately trying to place the person they are talking to into a nice box/group.

Often they will assume they have, and then throw out a canned response, or voice their personal angst against that specific box/group.

Well its a good thing that I am in a hexagon then.

Don't be sorry, I've definitely lost track.
I think the preamble to the USA's current constitution is pretty good.
Somewhere, on this thread, the suggested preambles were posted.
And guess what?
They were all pretty good, too.
Interpretations are where problems will arise.
