The Founders used committees, didn't they?

Yeppers! pretty interesting reading if you search on them. I love the idea of a "leftovers" committee - except they are the ones that came up with the electoral college!

Very snide, the Committee of Unfinished Parts:

With this, the Convention has concluded its discussion of the Committee of Detail Report. To deal with those questions still outstanding, a new committee was formed will consisting of one delegate from each state. This group entitled “The Committee on Unfinished Parts,” would become known as the Brearly Committee after its New Jersey representative, and would deal with those issues that had been postponed. These would include Congress’s power to spend for the general welfare, creation of the Electoral College method of electing the President, and the President’s role in treaty-making and in appointment of officers.

It appears they had a more important role than you expressed.

The source I read called the Brearly Committee the "Leftovers Committee" - and then said it was later called the Brearly Committee.

    Guess we have different sources.

    I wasn't saying it wasn't important; I really do think it's cool

Re: A Message from the President

    Dear Mr. sangha,

Mr. President, sir, I have the unfortunate news that my fears of this conglomeration of people to forge new ideals has fallen to the dark side. Partisanship. It is the logical bane to this meeting of minds. For partisanship does this to a person:

And once a person has lost the ability not to rifle their talking points at every turn, they've lost the ability to compromise, let alone, trust someone who speaks differently about things then they do. Without trust and compromise, this endeavor will yield unsatisfactory results.

I am sorry to see you go and I thank you for your contributions so far.

But before you go, I'd like to re-consider your position. If you are looking for non-partisanship, I don't think there's a place anywhere on DP that's going to satisfy you. People have their beliefs and their biases, and those didn't magically disappear simply because they decided to participate in this forum. They brought those things here just as they bring them to every thread on DP. However, IMO there has been far less bickering and personal attacks in this forum than there have been in the other areas of DP and the tone here is generally superior than that of other threads.

But in the end, it's your decision. However, regardless of your level of participation, you remain a member of the convention in good standing. Should you change your mind, you are free to rejoin the discussions.

I thank you for that kind sentiment, I did not expect it. However, it isn't that I was looking for debates without partisanship, but there are certainly peeps who won't even budge on not being partisan in every post they've probably ever made here at DP. They're like a machine programmed to do one thing and one thing only: praise the gospel of their political party demonize the opposition whenever they can. Furthermore, I obviously do not share your optimism, which is understandable. You've chosen to make yourself optimistic until this endeavor is done one way or another. Anyway, thanks again for keeping the door open for me, man.

People aren't changing simply because they entered this forum. Some will remain the hyper-partisans they've always been, and while I will be doing some moderating, I don't want to be heavy-handed. However, I do expect it to tone down a bit as time goes on though there will always be positions promoted from both extreme ends of the political spectrum

But I understand. This entire concept is based on what we do as a group. No one can be forced to do anything aside from not breaking DP's rules about flaming, baiting, etc. If it's not for you, it's not for you but maybe you should stop in from time to time and see if there's anything that interests you

Hey, you never know....it could happen!!
