My first born daughter is getting married next fall

I love her to death. Our relationship is strong.

She tasked me with choosing a father/daughter dance song.

I have been thinking about this.

Question: After I have made a selection, do I share that with her? or does she find out at the reception? I have never thought of this before so I do not know what is the 'norm'


Below is the song that I am thinking of - lots of time to change my mind though.



Any songs that you think to suggest will be appreciated and listened to.

It kind of 'bridges' the generations as well. This may be the one. Thanks

went thru this the past year for my daughter's wedding in july

she will need to know what it is. hopefully something that (1) you both like; and (2) something you can both dance to

hope your daughter's wedding/reception is as fabulous for you as my daughter's was for me

Yes, I thought about that too.

A friend of mine had his daughter's wedding a couple years ago and he actually took dance lessons so that he wasn't stepping all over her feet. For one who always avoided the dance floor he was able to pull it off.

Of course I think for a father-daughter dance the dance judges are going to give you a little leniency.

Congrats to her and you as the dad. I can't comment on the "do you share it with her" part and your choice is something you must have reason to choose and she will understand right off the bat.

I have two that are married with families, five grandkids.
Relax and have fun at the wedding. The two of you should decide on a song.

When my daughter got married I took a few lessons so avoid the problem I have with no rhythm and two left feet. It did seem to work and I have never regretted it. It was a good investment of time and energy.

Congrats! I had to watch some videos to get some ideas rolling and I found this one. I don't know if anything like this would be in line with you and your daughter and your relationship but I loved it.



1. Starts off and ends with one of my favorite songs: Butterfly kisses.

2. You say you're not much of a dancer but the dance moves they did were not too complicated, I know you could do it!

3. Just looks like fun and would be extra memorable for both of you.

Yes, my friend just took a few lesson too and it made a difference for him.

Another thing that I think has been overdone to the hilt is the father and daughter come out to a slow dance and then all of sudden they start doing the Hustle. It was cute the first time someone did it but now that is has been copied a couple hundred times at least it is almost expected. Just a nice simple dance is all that is needed. Afterall it is only a small part of the wedding.

I used to put my kids to bed when they were toddlers and sing them the Harry Chapin song "A Better Place to Be". They used to call it 'the little man song' because of a line in it. My daughter picked that as the song we danced to. And I cried.

Great choice!!!!!

My wife and I danced to that Simon & Gar song at my daughters wedding. It is beyond beautiful.

This seems like a tall order. I like this song. I take it as the dad saying no matter what he will always be there. I think it's cute how the guy/dad is explaining dancing.

THere is absolutely nothing in the world wrong with crying of happiness or sadness for a loved one. It shows you care and that is ultimate presentation of your feelings!
