I am way beyond dating but with everyone today glued to their smart phones I am curious about young people dating. My question is how many times do you or your date interrupt the date with a call or tweet or whatever? I would find that to be rude but I am from a different generation.

37 here, and I would find it rude.

At work, cell phone etequette is thus...phone rings, you check the screen. If the person calling is more important than the person you're currently engaging, you answer. If not, you ignore.

That same assumption carries into dating. By answering that phone, you're informing your date that whoever is on that other is more important than they are.

My understanding is that you live stream the whole thing while adjusting for camera angles, viewer suggestions and potential violations to the streaming provider's terms of service. It's pretty complicated in that you have to adjust your game plan based on viewer "likes" and "retweet" volume.

I was on a date a long time ago. My dinner partner took a cellphone call at the table. That was the end of that ride. My thoughts are that if, if the call is an emergency, then you excuse yourself from the table and make the call as brief as possible. I have been called ‘old fashioned.’

The smart thing to do is - stay off your phone.

I think it's reasonable to expect your date to practice good etiquette and let routine calls go to voicemail.
That said, if your date is a reporter, or a doctor, or is in some other field where communications can't always wait, it is up to you to decide if you are okay with the fact that their phone calls MIGHT JUST garner more than a cursory glance or an automatic shunt to VM.

I've been on dates with women who had that kind of situation.
They were incredibly nice about it and I understood. I was dating a smart and capable woman who had a lot going on, and it was okay.
On the other hand I'd also been on dates where the gal fished the ringing phone out of her purse and it was some other guy on the line.
That did not go well, so of course it all depends on who it is, what their situation is and what qualifies as an important call.

My sister in law is back in the dating game after a twenty eight year marriage and she's a bit nonplussed at the way some of her dates have handled phone calls. None of them were doctors or reporters either, just rude guys picking up stupid calls that could have waited.
She excused herself to "go to the powder room" on one date like that and just took off and left the guy sitting there until he got the hint, which I found very funny.
