A Victim of Covid 19 - World Respect for United States

Their notion that the US was somehow blessed with time to prepare is laughable. We had it here at the same time it was showing up in Iran, Italy, etc.

The bungled response of the country once known for its "can do" philosophy is the talk of Europe.

U.S. Coronavirus Response Met With Alarm Abroad | HuffPost

Hmmmm...

Which of these socialist oriented countries has not only recognized the concept of individual rights/freedoms/liberty, but enshrined them in both foundational documents (like our Bill of Rights and Declaration if Independence) and Law (like our SCOTUS decisions)?

We are still testing more people both initially, and repeatedly than any other nation. Thus we are identifying case numbers faster.

Meanwhile, we are also labeling just about any death where Covid-19 is present as a "Covid-related" death. Which IMHO is inflating our numbers.

Moreover, we have a high recovery rate, and it also seems that our death rate is also very low.

We have treatments. We have trials already going on with at least one (if not more) vaccines. We know who is most at risk, and who is not...and we know that the vast majority of American's who've gotten it are either asymptomatic, or recover with little to no ill effects.

What is happening is that Covid-19 is being hyped as if equivalent to the "Black Death," which killed 3/4's of the population of Europe. Yet it has so far had less of an impact in the US than the Spanish Flu of 1918, which we recovered from.

So I could care less what some people elsewhere in the world think about our nation. I've never really cared to be honest. :coffeepap:

Our handling of the pandemic will continue to be completely dysfunctional until so long as Trump is in office. Simple as that. Until he's gone, there will be no coordinated response, the virus will not be brought under control, and there will be no vaccine rollout.

um, i think that electing a moron twice in the 2000s and then an orange turd probably did more to hurt the world's respect for us more than the horrible response to the pandemic did.

i'll just go ahead and say it. eventually after their WTF entertained response drains away, we're going to be looking at the rest of the first world considering dumping the dollar and possibly even trying to sanction us. you won't like that. it's time to grow up. WWII victory can only take a nation so far if it keeps choosing idiots to lead it.

Yeah, they've got nothing to teach us about the right to be sick.

these dumb ass Trump supporters (who thought this pandemic was a hoax) don't care what other humans think. hell, they don't care what other humans in the US think.

Doing a lot of tests where people don't get their results back quickly is a huge waste of time. In some places people have been waiting up to 16 days. In some places the average turnaround time is 8.5 days. You can go around infecting a lot of people while you wait. Many places did not have the capacity to handle the surge of testing during their peak infection times. Many people waited in line up 9 hours or more to get tested. I'm sure hearing this discouraged people from getting tested themselves.

I'm pretty sure the whole labeling people wrongly with C19 deaths has been debunked. There might be a few but it is hardly a significant issue. Just take a look at the number of all deaths from January to August in most hard hit states. In AZ they looked at deaths during this period from 2010 to 2020. In most years there is a 5 to 6% increase at the most. Some years there is no increase or even a decrease. This year we have increased by 13%.

We may have a high "recovery" rate but what does that really mean. It doesn't mean you are completely physically healed that's for sure. In most cases, it means that after a certain period if you aren't dead you are considered recovered. People focus on the Death number but don't consider how many are still suffering from the affects of C19.

I do agree that C19 is being overhyped. I think it has been weaponized by the Democrats. The fact that this is an election year has supercharged the fear mongering. I think both the left and the right have taken their opinions to the extreme. The reality is clearly in the middle.

I don't care what other countries think about us in general. I am concerned from an economic aspect what they think of us. I wish the hoaxer crowd would better understand this and suck it up for a few months.

Christ on a cracker, stop barking about "liberty." We are far from the only country in the world with freedom.

(Disclaimer: Strong language and uncomfortable truths)

Yeah, all those European countries did such a great job.

We sure did, and we had no way of knowing to what extent because the CDC failed to provide reliable testing. Instead of purchasing tests from the WHO or getting the private sector to fill the gap, President Trump talked about how the virus would just disappear. As a result, we did not find out how bad our situation was until mid to late March.

We had no time to prepare because we had no idea what we should be preparing for. [sarcasm]And no one warned President Trump about a likely pandemic during his term. How could he prepare with no warning?[/sarcasm]

Yawns. While he was still defending himself from impeachment, the administration started working on a reliable, universal, quick result test. Unfortunately it never materialized as the Sacred CDC sucks donkey balls when it comes to new tasks.

 The tired impeachment excuse. He showed the same level of concern for that as he did for COVID-19, and you expect us to believe it weighed on him so much that it excuses dereliction of duty. :bs

Your country is ****ed, rates of infection are climbing almost everywhere and no amount of spin about 'more testing' being the reason you're seeing more cases changes a damn thing. Oh, and if you don't care what others think about your country you might ask your leaders to stop asking for our help in times of crisis, like you did with Katrina. See how you get on then.

He ordered the tests. That is well reported. If you want to talk about tired excuses, show us the US even had the ability to process WHO tests. Most countries developed their own based on their capacities.

CNN/Facebook town hall transcript

The WHO developed the test mainly to support countries with weaker health systems. The United States is a fabulous scientific system, a wonderful capacity to develop tests, and whilst developing those tests under the leadership of the CDC. So, no, we did not offer the tests to the U.S., which would be standard practice.

If we were asked, obviously, we would have responded

Biden, Trump Wrong About WHO Coronavirus Tests - FactCheck.org
Rangarajan Sampath, the chief scientific officer of the nonprofit Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics, told us that the WHO tests are typically intended for low- and middle-income countries that lack the ability to test.

In part, this is because any assay, or test, the WHO might choose to produce could be easily manufactured in the U.S. or European Union, Sampath said, so the agency doesn’t usually supply kits to those countries.

Still, he said, any nation — even wealthy ones — can request a test kit from the WHO. “They don’t restrict them to low- and middle-income countries,” he said.
