Annual Sturgis motorcycle rally expecting 250K, stirring virus coincerns

The thing is, people need to understand that all of this crap is TEMPORARY, till we can come up with antiviral meds and vaccines.
Then we can do all that stuff we used to do, all the get togethers, all the parties, everything.

We're just being called upon to make temporary sacrifices.
If we'd just be better at that, the length of time would be shortened and the price wouldn't be so awful.
It's the refusal to cooperate that's stretching it out and making it cost more.

I love your posts, brother. I mean it! Are you sure you weren't hanging with me, back then?

Yeah, I had a blues band too! Several of them, as a matter of fact. It's the musician's universal language, right? Just me & my partners in some of our neighborhood garage band incarnations. We played parties, open mics, our neighborhood bar hang-out, and our own forest preserve summer parties. At the bar we played for free drinks and a piece of the door. We usually did better on the drinks!

Small world with you and your reverend though, I'll say that. Quite the story. My wedding was super traditional, Catholic Church and all. For as liberal as I may run in the streets, at home with my family I'm as conservative as my parents & grandparents were. No idea why, but I just cling to traditional at home.

But now we're talkin', with Peter Green & early Mac! I love the Danny Kirwan years the best. The kid was like 15 or 16 when Peter found him, and pulled him in. And his first work with them & Peter was 'Albatross'. Not bad for a kid! As much as I like Peter, I prefer Danny's work & compositions. He took them from a blues band to a sixties creative exploratory force.

Check these two videos out, below. I know you're going to love them. The first is a Danny & Peter duet. The second is Peter fronting the band. Check out the ease & symmetry between Danny and Peter in the first video, and the beautiful tone in Peter's Les Paul - along with his excellent vocals - in the second.

I hope you enjoy them, buddy.

Funny thing is, it turns out I AM familiar with both those tracks, from my youthful days in Bethesda, MD listening to the great WHFS 102.3 FM.
WHFS was a flagship of a format that defies description, deejays that had 100% control of playlists, styles, guests, everything.
They'd play Dave Edmunds' "I Hear You Knockin" and then go all the way back top the original which came out in the late 1920's.
They would take listeners on a very enjoyable educational "tour" of the music.

I remember this version of the Mac, I just must have forgotten it WAS the Mac, if that makes any sense.

Yes, it does! Glad to hear you remember this stuff, at least musically.

You might find this first video interesting as a time-capsule. But the real-deal, is that here is when Danny Kirwan just joined Peter and the band. Danny is the teenage blond-haired kid in the company of grown men years his senior. But damn, that kid could play!

Two years later, Peter was out and Danny was essentially the band's motivating force, fronting, writing, guitar work, vocals, creative direction, everything! He took them from a blues band to a creative progressive force. Check-out the direction he took the band in the second video, while only in his teens! Amazing stuff, and my favorite FM era.

Annual Sturgis rally expecting 250K, stirring virus concerns

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Sturgis is on. The message has been broadcast across social media as South Dakota, which has seen an uptick in coronavirus infections in recent weeks, braces to host hundreds of thousands of bikers for the 80th edition of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

More than 250,000 people are expected to rumble through western South Dakota, seeking the freedom of cruising the boundless landscapes in a state that has skipped lockdowns. The Aug. 7 to 16 event, which could be the biggest anywhere so far during the pandemic, will offer businesses that depend on the rally a chance to make up for losses caused by the coronavirus. But for many in Sturgis, a city of about 7,000, the brimming bars and bacchanalia will not be welcome during a pandemic.
=====================================================================================
Many bikers & local vendors will have to look forward to sitting on the ground, spreading their legs & kissing their sweet donkeys goodbye when this is all over.

Sturgis actually expects about twice what you say and the small town of sturgis depends heavily on the ralley for it's livelihood. Anytime they don't want to host it all they have to do is advertixe the fact that it's off. While I'm sure some people have a concern about Covid 19, the masses of those in Sturgis didn't want to cancel.

Q: Why did the Harley owner couple decide to have only 4 children?
A: They'd read in the newspaper that one out of every five babies born in the world today is Chinese.

On the upside if you're looking for a used Harley there should be some good deals in weeks to come.

I am so glad after becoming a dad of two my son-in-law decided to sell his Classic Harley a few years ago and buy a travel trailer so the family can have fun traveling together.

A big orchid to Harley-Davidson for its principled stand.

I am sorry, too, that the bikers decided to go ahead with that event.

Yeah, but they're rough, they're tough; real men who shrug off pandemics. Their 'all-American icon'* bikes sound like misfiring tractors too. Ride free and die!

*How American is Harley Davidson?
