Jordan is 100% correct on this. Why can't Fauci just say 'I respect individuals first amendment rights, however, gathering in large crowds is very dangerous right now'. Perhaps give suggestions on how to make these "protests" safer. He will give his opinion on every other thing but this. He is being a coward just like every other person who is bullied by the left. He is clearly indirectly saying that these protests are spreading the virus. It should be obvious to all of us that the protests are spreading the virus.

Didn't Dr. Fauci say something along the lines any large gathering can lead to increased spread? He was trying not to make the issue of crowds a political thing.

Some of the hearings I have watched, I was disappointed how partisan the questions run. Congress is broken.

He did.

He will call out any other gathering like sports, concerts or going to church but will not directly call out the "protests". He was squirming big time while trying to answer the question. This is a big reason why many people don't trust this guy. He should just say it. Protesting in large gatherings is not a good idea right now. Then he should leave it to the government to take whatever action is necessary.

Amazing.

They want to accuse people who say to take COVID seriously (and Fauci DID remark on crowds; OP is just lying) of hoaxing to hurt Trump AND call them hypocrites for not telling protesters (the strong majority of whom ARE wearing masks) not to protest police brutality because of COVID.

Can you pick one, stop lying, and make a coherent argument about it? Because as always, the Trumpist line would contradict itself on several points if it were true, which it isn't.

Some of the line of question reminds me of asking someone , "have you quit beating your partner" yes/no. Either way you admit you beat the person.

If Congress knows large crowds are problematic with regards to CV19 and protests are large crowds, then why won't Congress address the issue?

As far as trusting Dr. Fauci. I prefer him over some of Trump's comments or his press spokespersons.

I'm shocked that we are several months into this and people still don't get it.

Wearing masks + social distancing + washing hands is how you reduce the spread.

Jun 5, 2020 article notes:

"Every time I hear about or see the congregation of large crowds at a time and geographic area where there is active infection transmission, it is a perfect set-up for the spread of the virus in the sense of creating these blips that might turn into some surges," Fauci said. "So I get very concerned." Fauci emphasized that while demonstrators have both a constitutional right and a good reason to protest, he noted that people gathering in close proximity, shouting and chanting, and possibly being exposed to tear gas or pepper spray – crowd-controlling irritants that make people cough, sneeze, and rub their eyes — increases the risk of transmitting the virus.

"There certainly is a risk, I would say that with confidence, when you see the congregation of crowds," he said, "particularly in a situation where you have a lot of confusion and a little bit of chaos, people running back and forth, taking their masks off, being close in proximity, that does pose a risk." . . . "It is a difficult situation," Fauci said. "We have the right to peaceably demonstrate, and the demonstrators are exercising that right...it's important to exercise your constitutional rights to be able to demonstrate, but it's a delicate balance, because the reasons for demonstrating are valid. And yet, the demonstration itself puts one at an additional risk."

June 10, 2020 article notes:

Although many protesters have been wearing masks and distributing hand sanitizer, it's virtually impossible to maintain any social distancing at a mass protest. That issue of physical separation "is important," according to Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a key member of the White House coronavirus task force. "Masks can help, but it's masks plus physical separation," Fauci said in an interview on "Good Morning America" Wednesday. "When you get congregations like we saw with the demonstrations," he continued, "that's taking a risk."

Recent protests across the U.S. over the death of George Floyd could lead to new surges in coronavirus cases, Dr. Anthony Fauci warned Friday.

"It is the perfect set-up for the spread of the virus in the sense of creating some blips which might turn into some surges,” Fauci, a member of President Trump's Coronavirus Task Force, told radio station WTOP-FM in Washington, D.C

I saw that interaction.

He emphatically stated over and over and over a statement similar to this...."gathering in large crowds, especially without a mask increases the possibility of acquisition and transmission of Covid -19"

How much clear can he be?

I had to turn it off....the left and right were pissing be off.

All the crap about volume of testing is bull crap. We will never have the volume of testing to get to the bottom line if we keep on our current trajectory,

The end of testing NEEDs to be results back hopefully in an hour but DEFINITELY back within 24 hours. We cannot do that unless we seriously slow the spread.

This means everybody (outside of very young) needs to wear a mask and socially distance and practice proper hygiene. No crowds without social distance or masks.

We can point to so and so....but who cares. Everybody.

This is not just the path to less deaths ....this is the path to having a more robust economy.

Oh please! Jim Jordan is a huge political hack. Every time Jordan is on camera he badgers the committee chair, other committee members, and those who testify. Jordan doesn't even attempt to hide his agenda and his agenda is always political gotcha. Jordan is like a monkey with a machine gun.

His attempted gotcha based questioning of Fauci was all about protesters. Jordon wanted to set up Fauci by scoring political gotcha points against BLM. Fauci refused to play that game. Fauci refused to politicize his responses.

I agree that Jordan is a hack. He makes a good point here though.

That's what Fauci did in the video.

That's... exactly what he said.

He is saying that "gathering in crowds is likely to spread the virus. Indoors is worse than outdoors. I don't make policy."

By the way, the evidence suggests that the protests aren't causing the virus to spread. Even given that evidence, I'd say he is doing the right thing.

Perhaps give suggestions on how to make these "protests" safer.
"There" "is" "no" "need" "for" "scare" "quotes" "around" "protests."

Anyway, he did make suggestions. Wear masks, stay away from crowds, all gatherings like that involve a degree of risk.

He will give his opinion on every other thing but this.
Please.

Back in April, he didn't suggest shutting down churches. He gave generic advice: Limit people, wear masks, be aware of the outbreak in your area, practice distancing, don't sing. He didn't specifically say "governments should shut down churches."

He's trying to keep you, and everyone else, safe.

It should be obvious to all of us that the protests are spreading the virus.
Except... they aren't.

Protests have been constant in places like New York, Boston, Baltimore, DC, Seattle, Minneapolis... and guess what? The virus isn't spreading there. It's still very low. And of course, the virus has been rising steadily in areas that don't have lots of protests -- e.g. southern Gulf Coast, most of Mississippi, suburbs in Florida and Texas, California's Central Valley....

Did mass protests lead to surges in coronavirus cases? Here's what the evidence says.

I'm shocked that we are several months into this and people still don't get it.

Wearing masks + social distancing + washing hands is how you reduce the spread.

Please, the trump cult is full of people who believe that wearing masks is an infringement on their liberties and can even spread the coronavirus. For instance, that moron Louie Gohmert.

That wasn't the question.

Fauci repeatedly said all crowds are bad.
Fauci encouraged people to avoid any and all crowds.

Fauci only refused to say the govt should end the protests.

Much different than how you're framing it.

This is so silly. The government cannot limit protests for any reason. It's not like your tavern that's been shuttered by the state, it's a constitutional right.

So the right to attend worship Fauci did weigh in on not attending houses of worship at this time. But protesting/rioting? He was weak.

Look if you are going to stand up for All First Amendment rights then you must be willing to stand up for all. If not you become a jive time nickel dime plastic banana.

I'd love to see you find the words Fauci used to say what you think he said.

Fauci made no such distinction.

Fauci explicitly and expressly pointed out that the nature of the crowd was irrelevant.

You're imagining things which didn't actually happen.

don't gather in crowds during a pandemic.
