Wave of evictions could be coming for nation's renters | TheHill

The federal moratorium on evictions signed into law in March as part of the CARES Act is set to expire Friday night at midnight, setting up the potential for a wave of evictions in the middle of a pandemic that President Trump acknowledged this week will get worse before it gets better.

It’s possible that the moratorium will be extended as part of a new relief bill, but Congress is mired in negotiations and is not expected to finalize legislation until early August.

Some Democrats are sounding the alarm.

This is one reason RV sales are zomming.

If you can afford a RV, you can afford to pay your damn rent.

This will probably make both the cornovirus and the economy worse.

It's probably their strategy. The gop made sure to make the economy real **** before they handed it of to obama. Looks like they have the same tactic when biden takes over

and on the day after the election, conservatives will suddenly discover deficits again.

Leasing an RV is between 1/3 and 1/2 the cost of average apartment rent in many places, so that may be viable for some families in the short-term. That sounds like a horrible financial decision long-term.

It was not the GOP that left Obama the mortgage market collapse. It wa the democrat party that did so.

I know that we will be evicting 3 of the 20 renters we have in our investment properties as soon as the moratorium has ended. People who are taking advantage of the law and who BTW are also illegally subletting space (claimed "extended family members" affected by the covid thing) to people who were not on the lease agreement, and we are unable to get out of the units.

Pisses me off to see these people all who could somehow afford large SUVs, afford $1000 cell phones for everyone in the family, satellite TVs, and many other non priority expenses just using these rent moratoriums to screw small investors---many of whom rely on that rental income for their retirements.

How about a property tax moratorium and a income tax moratorium for those of us forced to carry the burden of losers?

Bush collapsed the housing market. Next time don't use fox news as a source if you want to be taken seriously.

How is the landlord supposed to pay the bills if he cant collect rent?

Barney Frank, whose image is in that video, was in the House minority. He had no power.

I definitely feel for you based on the news pieces I have seen. There were a lot of elderly people getting social security who stopped paying rent in one of the pieces I saw. Their finances were not impacted by COVID-19 severely enough to stop paying. The only legitimate excuse I see for people with steady checks coming in would be needing to buy extra food in case a full shutdown took place, but that would not impact 3-4 months worth of rent by any stretch of the imagination.

I have also read about younger people whose roommates stopped paying utilities and rent and expected the primary person on the lease to foot the bill. Those people were left with the option to either help the roommate game the system or be responsible and pay the full amount, hitting their savings even harder. It is amazing to me how many people took advantage of this pandemic financially.

My wife and I spoke with our bank about a forbearance on our mortgage when the stay at home orders first hit since I have been unemployed. I was not sure if I would get unemployment at the time. The bank sent us a document to sign, but when I was able to get unemployment, we chose not to sign it. If we are able to afford it, we are not going to take advantage of the system no matter how tempting it may be. I figure it will help us in the long run by not having our payments go up or having the length of the term increase to offset us not paying.

It's amazing the length bush loyalists will go to in order to absolve him of blame. The bush cult is almost as bad as the trump cult.

How did Bush 'collapse the housing market?' And what did the Fox News report (that you didnt watch) get wrong?

He gave poor people mortgages they couldnt afford.

There is a reason videos aren’t the preferred method of peer review. Idiots cling to videos because they suck at reading comprehension and are easily swayed by visuals

yikes, even ARC thinks you're an idiot. And I think more so because its a long since proven lie to blame Frank or the GSEs.

I actually think that was one of the stronger positive ideas he offered. It was the implementation of the idea that fell through the floor and took the foundation with it. Instead of having the government help pay for homes, that funding would have been better spent helping low income families get better educations for younger generations and learn more usable skills for older generations, allowing more low income communities to find better job opportunities and better pay. That is a bit of an oversimplification, but hopefully you get the idea.

thats easy fletch, the GSEs didnt cause the Bush Mortgage Bubble and democrats were the minority party so the video is lying by even mentioning Frank. And the best part is the video quotes Frank literally repeating what Bush told him. So that only further proves the fox was being dishonest.

Testimony from W’s Treasury Secretary John Snow to the REPUBLICAN CONGRESS concerning the 'regulation’ of the GSE’s

Mr. Frank: ...Are we in a crisis now with these entities?

Secretary Snow. No, that is a fair characterization, Congressman Frank, of our position. We are not putting this proposal before you because of some concern over some imminent danger to the financial system for housing; far from it.

- THE TREASURY DEPARTMENT'S VIEWS ON THE REGULATION OF GOVERNMENT SPONSORED ENTERPRISES

And Fletch, you've spammed up my Bush Mortgage Bubble FAQ thread so like the fox report, you're simply pretending not to know the truth as you push a dishonest agenda. Why is that always acceptable to conservatives?

Using Fox as an excuse not to take the video seriously is just goofy partisanship. The video contained Barney Frank and all the others in their own words. It is you that is not taken seriously, especially considering that you are still claiming to be "very conservative" in your profile. If you cannot be intellectually honest about your political views, I really cannot take you seriously on anything else.

Its not a common theory but I think he went all out with his housing policies because the complete failure of his tax cuts. Of course that was back when republicans thought they might be held accountable.

You have a very poor understanding of congressional politics and numbers. The democrats while not in the majority at the time still have enough power in numbers to stop any legislation Bush proposed to stop the market collapse

I already proved you aren't a true conservative. Let's not play this game. Bush collapsed the housing market. See the post by vern that clearly proves that that video you posted was a lie.
