Walmartto requirecustomers to wear masks in all its stores

Walmart to require customers to wear masks at all its stores

NEW YORK (AP) — Walmart will require customers to wear face coverings at all of its namesake and Sam’s Club stores, making it the largest retailer to introduce such a policy that has otherwise proven difficult to enforce without state and federal requirements.

The company said the policy will go into effect on Monday to allow time to inform stores and customers. The Bentonville, Arkansas-based company said that currently about 65% its more than 5,000 stores and clubs are located in areas where there is already some form of government mandate on face coverings.

The retailer also said it will create the role of health ambassador at its Walmart stores and will station them near the entrance to remind customers without masks of its new requirements. These workers, who will be wearing black polo shirts, will receive special training to “help make the process as smooth as possible for customers.”

I wonder how many fist fights will break out between irate customers & 'health ambassadors.'

I hardly ever go to Walmarts, so mask or no mask is kind of irrelevant to me. I stop going several years ago as I got plain sick and tired of having to wait 30-45 minutes in line to check out. They have 30 registers, but only open up 5 or 6. My daughter is a big Walmart shopper, but she uses the on-line order and then goes to pick up her stuff which they do go out to her car. If I really need something from Walmarts that no other store has, then I'll order it on-line and have it shipped to me.

The funny thing about this is we also have a Sams which is great to shop at. Most of the time they have all their registers open. If not when a backlog of customers occurs, they'll open up more registers. Go figure, same company, but one makes checking out easy and fast as possible, the other seems not to care.

Not exactly on the subject of masks, but the mention of Walmart always gets my hackles up and it's time to rant.

I understand you don't want to stand by your "predictions".

"Only 10,400 deaths, max. Only 130,000 COVID cases, max"

:lamo

This is the barely coherent and grammatically inept speech of a man who desperately wants to be able to claim that he "cured coronavirus."

That's it, in a nutshell. When we do get a handle on this crisis, he wants to be able to pull out footage and declare "I called it! I said use this! I said try this! I told them to do this, it was my idea!" He's just doing it with lots of stupid stuff because he doesnt want to miss an opportunity. He's afraid 'the big one' will be mentioned and he wont get credit for it.

It's all about declaring himself the savior of the cv crisis and we'll hear all about it, esp in his campaign. (Which is basically each of his press briefings these days) --- Lursa

What a whiner! How does this cry-baby ever get through the day?

Example of a male Karen. A Kyle. Chad? Neil?

I've seen a few names.

Happy to stand by them, as they were closer than any from the experts as of the June 10 deadline. Thanks for posting.

Yeah, those poor folks shopping at Walmart can be a nuisance. Why do we have to put up with poor people!!

There's no shame in being poor but being stupid is another matter...

I don't think it's fair to say all poor people are stupid.

Those who refuse to wear a mask are as stupid as they come...rich or poor...

In typical leftwing fashion, the government is making Walmart the heavies, having to hire people to enforce government laws. Democrats don't have the courage to hire 'mask police' to go in and try to enforce a law both the store and customers hate. You want to talk about targets. That would be human faces representing leftwing government. No amount of lying polls or fake news coverage could mask the antipathy most people have for the Democrats pushing this virus charade.

Did the government make Walmart do this? And when you are talking "left wing" ...seriously? The right has the senate, POTUS, and the SCOTUS is primarily conservative.

It was a business decision. If you don't like it, don't go to Walmart.

If an employee is compliant at home....and it is likely the major exposure to Covid on the job, is Workman's comp on the hook (and therefor the employer)?

If so, Walmart would have a vested interest in having a healthy workforce.

Are you having fun making up dumb CTs and presenting them as facts?

We've got a good friend who's a Walmart manager. My guess is at least some of this is coming from employees who are feeling pretty exposed by all the idiots who shop in Walmart without masks in her southern state.

Plus there are people like me who took a trip to Walmart, saw all the idiots ignoring masks and social distancing, and won't go back. I might now at a down time since the policy is mandatory here. Otherwise, the odds were 0%. And frankly I imagine the hard core "no mask" crew is both small in number and spending power, so they're likely seeing an upside for business reasons, because being safe is good business.

So it's weird you blame this on "Democrats" without a shred of evidence, when the case for masks is easy to make even if we assume Walmart is indifferent to everything but sales and profits and employee retention.

They're going to need bouncers. Some people are going to say they don't have to and walk in without a mask. Like Senator Cruz on his recent American Airlines flight. How do you stop them without physically ejecting them?

Or they could offer them a disposable mask, hoping they just haven't got one, and if that doesn't work, suggest other stores in the area that sell what they're looking for. I have a feeling that wouldn't work with Senator Cruz.

They just refuse them service. Let them walk through the store, when they get up to check out, it's sorry sir, your not wearing a mask so I cannot check you out, store policy. You were told at the entrance.

Seems rather simple to me.

But in the meanwhile, they endanger the other shoppers? Or scam the system by putting a mask on at the check-out counter?

You sir are out of touch with reality. This is no charade. I have wasted enough time here trying to talk sense into Trump supporters.

I will say this though; Joe Biden 52, Donald Trump 37. That's the best an opponent has ever done against an incumbent since Bob Dole.

You do realize that Trump is loosing badly for his terrible response to Covid and partly his handling of race issues. He won't change, so he looses. BYEDON

There won't be that many deniers. Walmart just needs to follow them around to drive the point home. And like someone said earlier, at my Super Walmart, there is always a cop or two hanging in the lot or close by.

"The government is making Walmart the heavies" That is some serious facist conspiracy theory going on their. I doubt Walmart would go along with "left wing" policies since its clientele are largely Trump supporters.

Everything that happens in life is not some vast "left wing" conspiracy. If the left were a good as you say they are at such things, they would control all branches of every government, but they don't because they aren't.

Please apply a common sense filter to your posting.... it will make your posts much better (and you probably will find you are posting less) but more importantly, you will be easing up on the blood pressure.

Those poor workers, arguing with a bunch of yahoos over wearing a mask.

That is what bothers me... the workers are there to scan your purchases, stock shelves, etc. Not to get in confrontations with assholes while trying to support a company health policy. Most of the workers are not used to or trained in customer relations and have no real power to stop a person from not wearing a mask, other than to call the cops.

That is what they have to do... tell them to leave and if they do not tell follow them around the store telling other shoppers to stay away from them, then not sell them anything at check-out, close that check out lane if they refuse to leave, usher other patrons to different lines or have them wait and then finally follow the asshole out to their car and get a picture of them and their license plate (unless there is danger) and then call the cops who should be backing these incidents and who go to the assholes house to give them a $5,000 ticket enforceable with a bench warrant if not paid in 35 days./

I'll take this seriously when Wal-Mart enforces proper mask usage on their own employees. I'd estimate over half of the employees at the Wal-Marts I have shopped lately (about 5-6) did not cover their noses with the mask.

Our Walmart has had a mandatory mask requirement in effect for nearly 3 months and our numbers are low. The horse kind of left the barn already for some states, but better late than never I guess.

Making masks mandatory can only slow the rates of infections.

I see the most powerful country in the world, best in many areas, who cannot stop the pandemic.

US is in for a substantial death toll

Have not read the thread but I am sure it has a numbers of Cons losing their **** yet again

It appears they will have staff on hand trained specifically for that, whose only job is enforcing the mask policy. And I'm sure Walmart has anticipated the problems, and I'd bet have worked out ways to handle the few assholes who refuse. As people keep pointing out, I don't know how/why but at the local grocery and Walmart it's rare I don't see a sheriff's deputy (at one store) or a city police officer (Walmart) at or near the front, either outside in a marked cruiser or hanging around inside somewhere near the checkout lanes. I don't know if that's common in smaller cities, but it sure is around here, and it's not like I live in a high crime area.

It sounds way easier to simply not let them in the door, which is how it's done here.

Why don't you pull yourself up by the bootstrings and move to a state with a rightwing government that better aligns to your ideology?

Russia wants immigrants
