White House goes public with attacks on Fauci | TheHill

Tensions between the White House and Anthony Fauci, the government’s top infectious diseases expert, are spilling into the open as officials openly attack the doctor for his public health advice during the coronavirus pandemic.

Fauci's advice has often run contrary to President Trump’s views, and the attacks on Fauci have begun to look like a traditional negative political campaign against an opponent. Yet this time, the opponent is a public health expert and career civil servant working within the administration.

Dan Scavino, deputy chief of staff for communications, shared a cartoon on his Facebook page late Sunday that depicted Fauci as a faucet flushing the U.S. economy down the drain with overzealous health guidance to slow the spread of the pandemic.

This is about politics, not American lives. Trump is acting like a 12-year-old. His only concern is his popularity numbers going into Nov. 3.

I wondered how long it would take for Trump to publicly berate Fauci. Next step is firing him, I suppose.

Or at 79 him retiring & getting a job at a big pharma as a consultant on COVID-19.

I could see this coming way back in March.

Dr. Fauci wasn't going to sit silently as Trump altered facts or science.

This is exactly how repressive leaders work and how cult leaders work..... anyone that contradicts the supreme leader gets discredited. Now, that would not work by itself if it were not for the enablers that echo this nonsense and the fools that digest this nonsense. My guess is some of those enablers and fools will soon show their ugly faces.

This is exactly why Donald Trump is and will remain an existential threat to America. He does not deal in truth.... he can't handle the truth nor can he speak the truth.

Trump is getting worse by the day. I am reminded by the scene in nearly every movie with a submarine, where the sub has taken a hit and is falling powerlessly toward hull crushing depth while engineering works frantically to restore the engines.

This is what happens when you elect a joke of a President.

This is what happens when you want someone in the White House who simply tells you what you want to hear and affirms your every mental belief.

Cult isn’t strong enough a word if this clown show still appeals to you.

You can’t be reasoned with and you are lost as a human being.

I'm not sure that's fair. He's been at it a long time and if cashing in is what he wanted to do, he's had the opportunities to do that.

He's dedicated to his work but Trump is pushing him out the door.

Simple answer is NO. Trump can not fire him. Remove him from the Task Force, Yes.
imo, Fauci is concentrating on the health issue. He is not trying to analyze the effects of the virus on the economy. His recommendations have evolved over time as more is known about the virus.

"There is no question that President Trump can remove Dr. Fauci from the Task Force – there is nothing preventing him from doing so. But, can he simply fire Dr. Fauci for expressing an opinion he doesn’t agree with?

The answer is: “No.”

Dr. Fauci is a career member of the Senior Executive Service (SES), a position classification created by the Civil Service Reform Act of 1978, and which went into effect under President Carter. Under Federal law, he can be fired if he is found to have engaged in “misconduct, neglect of duty, malfeasance, or failure to accept a direct reassignment or to accompany a position in a transfer of function”, is or to be “less than successful [in his] executive performance.”

However, prior to being terminated for performance or conduct, Dr. Fauci must be given the due process protections offered by 5 U.S.C. § 7543(b), which provides that he is entitled to:

at least 30 days’ advance written notice, unless there is reasonable cause to believe the employee has committed a crime for which a sentence of imprisonment may be imposed, stating the specific reasons for the proposed action;
a reasonable time, but not less than 7 days, to answer orally and in writing and to furnish affidavits and other documentary evidence in support of the answer;
be represented by an attorney or other representative; and
a written decision and the specific reasons therefor at the earliest practicable date.

I am sure all that is correct, but it's largely irrelevant. If Trump signals a desire to fire Fauci, or simply remove him to a nothing role, Fauci will almost surely resign within days, IMO. Frankly if he believes in the 'mission' and I think he does, then he can do a lot more as a private citizen than figuratively locked in some corner in a basement prohibited from making public appearances.

That is an option that Trump could have Fauci reassigned. imo, if that happened it would damage Trump reelection chances caused by Trump himself.

It's not just his usual pattern of turning on anyone who speaks against him.

The only way he evades responsibility for his lying and denying on COVID is if he sows sufficient doubt about what any expert says or the media reports outside his base. This is almost certainly not going to work - he's been all-in for far too long to convince anyone new - but he's gonna do it anyway because a drowning man flails around whether he likes it or not.

And the thing is, he’s only human in the sense that, someone in his position is totally vulnerable to human frailties of not only himself but those that surround him.

I’m trying not to lose this point by going too large with it, but he is alone, his handling of this situation is so catastrophic that behind the scenes, he’s probably been abandoned by everyone except the biggest boot lickers and his family, both because of how toxic he has become and because he trusts no one.

I mean in the middle of this crisis, as it seems he hasn’t spoken to Fauci in months... How can that possibly be the actions of a responsible President with a sincere desire to see this crisis solved... And Trump fluffers Will say oh Fauci Said this and Fauci said that while ignoring everything Trump has said and done... Fire Fauci then, but not speaking to him? In the middle of all this?

I’ve done a lot of studying of leaders of all stripes and if I were a guessing man, Trumps completely isolated himself, he trusts no one outside his immediate family and a couple of boot lickers, he doesn’t trust most of the people in the White House, he trusts none of the Republicans in Congress, he doesn’t even probably trust most of the people in his cabinet and probably most of his own political appointees after Kavanaughs decision on the Tax Records and the worst part is his supporters will affirm his paranoia, everyone who speaks against him, even his own appointees and former staff are simply part of the “deep state” and it couyldn’t possibly be because he’s an idiot... He’s just such a standup and determined to do right guy, that people just can’t stand that

This will further isolate him and if he were to win a second term, 4 more years of this trajectory will be even more catastrophic, the nation simply cannot afford any more of this nonsense.

This joke has to end and it has to end now.

Can President Trump Fire Dr. Fauci? - FedSmith.com

Trump can't fire Fauci, and that has got to piss Trump off big time. Fauci has been contradicting Trump from the earliest days of the pandemic. Remember when Trump declared we would have a vaccine in 3 to 4 months? At the other end of the table, Fauci immediately corrected Trump's false statement. I recall there were people on this board defending Trump, saying the only reason it will take over a year to get a vaccine is because of all the useless bureaucracy involved and how Trump was going to fast track a vaccine.

You seem confused.

No, I know you can't swallow this, but guess what...

Your heroes are arrogant ;)

There is nothing more arrogant than using slick Washington-speak to evade responsibility for the economic, educational, and social impact of your decisions, for no other reason than to cover your own tail

The problem for you is the fact that Fauci has worked for 6 administrations and been respected, he didn't just stumble in off the unknown road. Also keep in mind that Trump sure had praise for him early on, but it's his usual pattern that the second someone is looking out for the country and not Trump, that relationship quickly sours. He's been doing it even before he was elected. It's just such an odd thing that so many people with respected lifetime achievements are suddenly falling off the charts because of one single man. The man who refuses to even keep the country informed on the pandemic thats rearing it's ugly head. But hey he's retweeting has been game show hosts so maybe that's good enough for you. Fauci doesn't have to make a name for himself, he's got nothing to lose.

I get that you're probably bitter because those 15 cases we were told would soon be zero are now almost 3,500,000. Your hero said so. :peace

He may wait till after the election. Like he did with Sessions.

I remember the vaccine remarks.
What Trump can do is have Fauci removed from the Task Force. He can also have him reassigned from his current position. Basically rathole him.
Fauci is respected enough with the public Trump would be foolish to do either of those two. But who knows.

Exactly...

The arrogance starts at 3:08

I didn't see it. Did you post the right video? If you did what part of his response offended you in some way or indicated an unreasonable amount of 'arrogance?'

I don't think you understand what that article is pointing out. :doh

Yeah, I read it and was impressed by how he handled that situation - with a lot of compassion, basically, which might not be the standard for a scientist.
