Trump administration moves to formally withdraw US from WHO | TheHill

The White House has officially moved to withdraw the United States from the World Health Organization (WHO), a senior administration official confirmed Tuesday, breaking ties with a global public health body in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic.

The U.S. has submitted its withdrawal notification to the United Nations secretary-general, the official said. Withdrawal requires a year's notice, so it will not go into effect until July 6, 2021, raising the possibility the decision could be reversed.

"To call Trump’s response to COVID chaotic & incoherent doesn't do it justice. This won't protect American lives or interests — it leaves Americans sick & America alone," the senator tweeted.

The WHO notified us of unusual viral pneumonia cases in Wuhan in Dec 2019, the first indication of COVID-19. Since we will no longer be a member, we will not be able to rely on such early warnings in the future.

I do hope Joe Biden has a much 'fun' undoing Trump's work as Trump seemed to have undoing Obama's..... We will probably double our commitment to WHO under Biden as pandemics are not going away.

That is a rather juvenile view. "who started it" is moot. The fact is the US (the POTUS) screwed up the response leading to the needless deaths of 10's of 1000 of Americans. Cutting funding from the WHO does not shift the culpability of death.

Not that I have any interest in supporting President Cheeto, but I have no trust for WHO and consider their actions & statements regarding China as highly suspect.

Trump was a to blame if he had been doing his ****ing job we would have not only actually been prepared but he would have read the Intel in November nipping the whole thing in the bud.

THis is right up there, top 3, of his most moronic and potentially dangerous moves.

The word '****tard' comes to mind. He's just playing to his base...they're all he's got left. Problem is...there arent enough of them, thank God.

This is the barely coherent and grammatically inept speech of a man who desperately wants to be able to claim that he "cured coronavirus."

That's it, in a nutshell. When we do get a handle on this crisis, he wants to be able to pull out footage and declare "I called it! I said use this! I said try this! I told them to do this, it was my idea!" He's just doing it with lots of stupid stuff because he doesnt want to miss an opportunity. He's afraid 'the big one' will be mentioned and he wont get credit for it.

It's all about declaring himself the savior of the cv crisis and we'll hear all about it, esp in his campaign. (Which is basically each of his press briefings these days) --- Lursa

Our response was better than that of our European counterparts. And were it not for the incompetents running New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Connecticut we would have given the Germans a run for their money. On March 10th, Deblasio was on television bragging about how his schools were still open, how the virus was no worse than a cold and that New Yorkers were a litlle risk and should get on with their lives. March 10th. But you defend him and attack Trump because of tribalism. So you have no credibility. Sorry.
