'We don't live in a communist country!': battle over masks rages in Texas | US news | The Guardian

Coronavirus cases are rising, but despite the exhortations of health experts, many Texans just don’t want to wear a mask

The driver license mega center in Fort Worth closed abruptly, just minutes before 1pm on Tuesday. Staff removed the two tables outside the entrance that recorded all visitors’ contact information, health histories and performed temperature checks.

Since reopening on 3 June, the facility had spaced seats inside to meet social distancing guidelines, cleaned surfaces regularly and only served those who booked appointments online. All workers wore masks, and anybody allowed in was required to wear a face covering. But despite the precautions, a Covid-19 case had been reported there.

One of the people turned away was Laurie Smith, 50. She is an administrative employee at a local church, where she is also a member, and calls mandatory mask requirements a sign of “sad” government manipulation. “My college-age kids are able to follow the recommendations without questioning it, but my husband and I are of a different generation, and we value our liberty to be able to make our own choices. So we question it more than they do,” she said.

That picture and this story made me think of this great philosopher.....

After the past few months I'm utterly convinced that if the zombie apocalypse happens and the government tells people not to get bitten by zombies, at least 1/3rd of Americans will do it on purpose just to show how "free" they are.

The Democratic Party and most Democrats DEMAND that for equality EVERY state MUST be required to have the extreme death rates of NY and NJ.

Notice that one of the people surrounding the mask-wearer is toting an American flag. And the guy with the big beer gut in front of him is wearing this T-shirt:

'SNOWFLAKES DON'T LAST LONG IN TEXAS'

The stars at night are big & bright...

The Republican governor is slaughtering the Republican Party of Texas. He is defeating himself by switching teams to become a totalitarian dictator in ways that not only destroy people's lives, but kills them. Any time Republicans start acting like Democrats they lose.

The Democratic MSM, press and politicians told him to commit political suicide - so he held their political gun to his head and pulled the trigger as orders in the stupid belief that the MSM and press will like him for it. Instead, they already are attacking him for it. He's an idiot.

If the Democratic MSM told people to french kiss every zombie they see, 75% of Americans and 99% of progressive Democrats would do so.

These people wouldn't know what communism was if the KGB arrested them for crimes against the Supreme Soviet.

Do you know why NY and NJ had high death rates? It's because the first case on March 2nd in this country was in NY, a city with 8 million people. A city without any way to test people. A city that had inadequate supplies of masks and gowns. A city that Trump thumbed his nose at and refused to help. That's why.

"Snowflakes", his shirt jeers. Yeah dude, you're super-intimidating. I'm skeered.

Texans for the most part have this macho man, Marlboro Man, Remember the Alamo attitude. Snowflakes don't last long in Texas, indeed.

Many Democrats on the forum can't stand someone else having the OP on any topic. Definitely not the OPer.

What the heck are you going on about now?

I believe it was mainly the heavy influx of infected people traveling to NYC from Europe where there was a lot of virus.

Yes it was traced to some people who came from Europe. But this country was severely under-prepared for what was coming. First death in NY, March 2nd.

When this article was published on March 11th, the WHO had not yet even given this coronavirus an official name. Imagine if Florida, Arizona, Texas or California could not test people today.

Coronavirus in N.Y.: Desperate for a Test, They Couldn’t Get One - The New York Times

March 11

'One woman in Harlem who wanted to be tested was told by health care workers not to worry about her coronavirus-like symptoms. In Brooklyn, a woman had to wait to get tested until her mother tested positive for the virus. One doctor at a hospital network has turned away patients who probably had the coronavirus because they did not meet the current testing criteria.'

Numerous interviews with doctors, hospital administrators and health officials this week revealed a confused and often troubled testing system in New York that has left many people who believe that they have been exposed to the coronavirus deeply frustrated.

The accounts suggest that the state and local governments have at times struggled to roll out one of the most effective means for responding to the epidemic: widespread testing.'

Maybe if Pelosi hadn't of held up money at the start for over a week it would have helped. Not ordering killing thousands of elderly people would have helped too.

The governors of NY and NJ could beg the federal government to take over all their hospitals since they are incapable of stocking them as is THEIR job. "It's Trump's fault I failed to do my job" isn't a good defense for any governor.

You mean the Democratic Party ranting against closing the border and running to federal court trying to stop it claiming closing the border is RACIST!!!?

It had nothing whatsoever to do with Nancy Pelosi, you're just creating a straw-man argument to blame someone other than Trump.
