So, Governor Gavin Newsom goes on TV to announce his latest do's and don'ts. First, because he asserts crowded, enclosed space with poor ventilation and people talking loudly are conducive to spreading the virus he closes don't bars and indoor dining in 19 counties that have wandered over his list of baddies. Ok, so far, mostly a good idea, I suppose.

Then to further his attack HE CLOSES BEACHES!! WTF? He's a little pasty but surely he's seen beaches before; the most wide open, well ventilated spaces in the friggin' state; easy to social distance, etc.

Sure, unless people start congregating. I'm curious to see how this plays out in NJ as well because a few weeks ago my wife and I went for a drive to check out the shore and the town we were in had plenty of people bunched up on the beach and on the boardwalk. The one benefit is that it is outdoors, but all you need is careless people sneezing and coughing with their mouths uncovered to increase your chances of getting sick depending on your PPE. That day I saw plenty of behavior that ended my desire to set foot on the sand that day. We're planning to go to the shore, but to a sleepy town with its own access to the beach; this stretch of the shore doesn't attract the large crowds the more popular beaches do.

Incidentally, the counties in NJ with the highest contagion rates right now are the southern ones which have the more popular shore destinations.

If we forcibly masked the militant maskless, this **** might end sooner. If we forcibly tied their fingers, the internet infection would go down, as well.

How many Florida beaches are closed? A bunch of them are closed for the holiday weekend.

A super packed beach ain't social distancing, no matter how much Trump tells you high doses of UV will cure ya.

Do you understand how epidemics work. You take the number of people who are currently infected, multiply it by a reproduction number, and that's the number who will be infected tomorrow. If the reproduction number is greater than one, the number of cases tomorrow will increase, if the number is less than 1 the number tomorrow will decrease. Simple.

Bars have a very high reproduction number, definitely much greater than 1. Beaches have a low reproduction number, probably less than one. So if we allow beaches to be open, tomorrow we'll have fewer cases than today. Great... as long as the number we have today is at an acceptable level. Its not.. so literally any transmission is bad until we get the virus back under control.

Had to do it. Too many Covidiots in California. Can't play nice, get the toys taken away. Hopefully they learn soon.

Are you Gavin's press secretary? :lamo

If we're not safe from this virus on open beaches how can we be safe anywhere? My god what fury hath these negligent Chinese lab techs unleashed on us?

Yes, a beach by itself is wide open and well ventilated. It is the humans that are the problems. Some have not yet figured out what social distancing means or have figured out how to wear a mask.

What's the reproduction number for 4 weeks of riots and protests?

Closing the beaches is ridiculous. Indoors, ok, I get it.
But on a beach, people are not screaming and spitting and coughing on top of each other.

Maybe the people just don’t want to do it and if that’s the case the government shouldn’t interfere

The big Democratic cities South of us have closed their beaches for the 4th. We are an hour North and people are FLOODING in. Every motel booked out. Boats on trailers everywhere. Every barge and kayak will be rented out. It will be a mob of people who have the peculiar view that they would prefer to spend Independence day not under house arrest.

With the super HOT blazing sunny days we are having, corona viruses won't last one minute in the air at a beach. The sun's UV light will kill all virus like getting hit with an industrial laser.

No you don’t get it, it’s time to stop compromising with the left on anything. They don’t care about coronavirus except as they can use it to hurt republicans. They caused irresponsible spread by lying about black lives matter and floyd and now they’re cinching down the pain on taxpayers. Time for regular people to throw their own riots Maybe

Nearly all covid-19 infections were contracted indoors. I'm not going to keep looking it up again, but a study of 10,000 covid-19 cases found only 1 was contracted in outdoors contact. Forcing people to stay indoors spreads contagious diseases. This has been know for at least 2 centuries.

None of this is logical, it’s not based on any objective philosophical standards and it’s not based on any cost benefit analysis

Notice the Democrats don't interfere with any riots or protests EVER. In fact, they paint BLM on the street to draw maximum crowds and inflict maximum damage.
Now suddenly, average, non-rioting, non-destroying, non-burning, non-statue-toppling Americans want to spend time outside on the beach or watching fireworks, and it's a covid emergency.
I hope people ignore these ridiculous orders to stay off beaches and enjoy the sun and water. It's MUCH healthier than staying inside every damn day.

Somewhere along the way the COVID fanatics seem to have forgotten that the goal for ALL states was not to stop all deaths of COVID, the goal is not to overwhelm hospitals so that if you are dying of COVID you at least can get treatment. There is no basis for closing beaches because there is no direct evidence, after 4 MONTHS of dealing with this disease, that being outside will cause the health system to be overburdened with cases.

Enough of this bs.

At the highly inflated number of 125,000 deaths, 0.000378 people have died from this virus.

Civil disobedience, yes definitely. Defying orders to avoid outdoor public spaces over 4th of July would be a good start.
Under Democrat rule, you can literally burn down a building, but all hell will break loose if you dip your big toe in the water.

Here in SW Florida there is a $500 fine for bringing alcohol on the beach and bars are not allowed to sell alcohol in the entire State. They are open though. Drinking alcohol is the cause of many covid cases. People get stupider and then they get covid.

I like the $500 fine for bringing alcohol on beaches we have here. It allows people to enjoy the water but stops all the parties. Young people are stupid and alcohol makes them stupider.

San Diego has banned alcohol from the beaches for quite a while. Most of the the pictures I've seen from the beaches show people doing a pretty good job wearing masks and keeping their distance. Newsom closed state beaches but our county and city beaches will mostly be open. The county closed all bars not selling food earlier this week and those that sell food can have to close by 10pm. As I understand you can game the system by ordering an appetizer and dawdling over it while powering down drinks - one drink- one food item is the law.

I just heard that our numbers aren't good so we may get sucked up into the more stringent rules Newsom imposed on 19 counties earlier this week.

As I mentioned above, so far the beach goers here have been pretty well behaved - not perfect, of course, but pretty good.
