Lt. Gov. Patrick dismisses Fauci’s coronavirus concerns: ‘I don’t need his advice’

Lt. Gov. Patrick dismisses Fauci’s coronavirus concerns: ‘I don’t need his advice’ - News - Austin American-Statesman - Austin, TX

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said he will no longer listen to Dr. Anthony Fauci, one of the nation’s top infectious disease experts, as coronavirus cases and hospitalizations surge in Texas.

“Fauci said today that he’s concerned about states like Texas that skipped over certain things,” Patrick told Fox News’ Laura Ingraham on Tuesday. “He doesn’t know what he’s talking about. We haven’t skipped over anything. The only thing I’m skipping over is listening to him.”

Hours before Patrick’s remarks on Fox, state health officials reported unprecedented numbers: nearly 7,000 new cases of COVID-19 and more than 6,000 hospitalizations.

Patrick was referring to Fauci’s remarks to federal lawmakers Tuesday, telling them he’s concerned about a “disturbing surge” of infections in Texas, Florida and Arizona.

Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, added that some states may have moved too quickly and skipped over checkpoints in the White House’s guide for reopening.

“He has been wrong every time on every issue,” Patrick said. “I don’t need his advice anymore.”

The White House guidelines for reopening include a downward trajectory of documented cases within a 14-day period or a downward trajectory in the same time period of positive tests as a percent of total tests.

Texas does not meet either guideline.
==================================================================
What's wrong with Texas that they need to adopt this kind of combative, negative attitude?

Culture Wars Indeed!

What on earth are supposed "leaders" drinking that makes them ignore any source of knowledge, learning, expertise, or advice they receive from true experts?

It is tragic that tens of thousands more Americans will die due to the fact that they believed ignorant misinformation and lies fed to them by incompetents such as Dan Patrick,
Doug Ducey, Ron DeSantis, Brian Kemp and Greg Abbott -- and their boss, Donald Trump.

California had 8600 cases yesterday and they listen to Fauci.

People who do the smart things that Dr Fauci has suggested since February will cut their likely hood of becoming infected.
Not even Trump follows Fauci's advice. Nor do millions of people who insist on going out with no mask to gather, eat out, and party.

It is mind boggling that the choice of wearing a mask -- the most certain way to curb infections -- is now a political tribal culture war expression.
As the US spikes beyond 50,000 new cases in one day, idiots are marching holding signs that say "No Masks. Freedom!"

The Russian and Chinese leadership must be celebrating nightly as they watch America show off our national stupidity.

We in Tennessee aren't even allowed to travel to NY unless we want to quarantine for 14 days. We're so proud.

What's sad is the state and city actually did a pretty good job. What's killing us at least in my area are a bunch of idiots who've decided being cautious and safe and wearing a mask is for ******s and liberals, so they're not doing it. And we have more cases now than at the peak, and our hospitalization rate is going up. So now we're taking steps to lock BACK down because of a bunch of dumbasses.

I don't get it, really. Bottom line is the best thing for BUSINESS is to keep the cases low, keep everyone safe. It ought to be the simplest message imaginable: Yes, go about your business, but BE SAFE! When you're in a store for 10 dang minutes, put on a mask. Don't have big parties! Social distance. When we're all safe, we can all do business!

But this had to become a partisan thing and if you wear a mask, you're just a liberal buying into the fake news. Etc.

Spot on. This morning, while "cruising" TN for the latest news, I came across this nonsense. Really, it makes absolutely no sense. Read the article and then look at the picture.

At this stage we at least have comparative data on the various approaches where we can see what happens if people are cautious during reopening measures and when they're not. The question for this country is on which end of the spectrum we want to be on; though in actuality it's really about where each state wants to be on. We're past any sense of national action; we're more like "The Associated States of America" in how we're going about this.

I agree. Our phobic response to being ordered to do anything -- even if it is meant to save lives -- coupled with having 50 state executives of differing political parties, as well as
differing levels of intelligence, has brought us to this day.

The US is now lumped with Russia, India and Brazil as "Persona non grata. Please stay home, come visit when you aren't dropping like flies!"

The first time I ever heard Patrick speak, it was when he was telling us that since seniors, like himself, love their grandchildren so much, then they should die for their economic future. I think then, if he is so convicted, that he should lead the charge, show himself as an example.

Trump’s base is science illiterate.

Is there any research to shed light on what makes so many Trump supporters willing to ignore factual information?
We know The Donald only reads Tweets -- while he ignores the presidential daily briefings -- but how did Trump's interest in ignorance
weave its way throughout the Republican Party? Is THAT another coronavirus?

Republicans have made protecting older people's lives, during a pandemic, a political issue. This stupid stuff is pushed by Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Fox.

If you guys want to know who to blame for all these extra deaths during this pandemic, point the fingers directly at Republican politicians and Republican voters.

That's not true. I live in one of those states that was in the fire two months ago. There was no 'lock-down', not at all. We were free to go buy food, get medicine, shop at Walmart, get take out food, go to Olive Garden take at home, etc. In other words, we had a normal life to a great extent. People stayed out of work because their work shut down. By April the numbers started to be reflected in these precautions and they started coming down. Yesterday, my state had 92 new infections, today we had 152 so we're not letting our guard down. It had been planned to phase into part 2 and that has been pushed back. Our governor is practicing an over-abundance of caution and everyone is working very hard to maintain distance and everyone wears a mask, every single person in public wears a mask or they are not allowed to enter any public space.

That's what it takes to lower the infections and that's what we do.

For a couple months folks in this forum dumped on New York when our state was being pummeled by Covid.

April 3 we set a terrible record -- over 10,000 new Covid cases swamped our hospitals and filled the ICUs.
We had refrigerator trucks parked outside hospitals for the overflow of dead.

Meanwhile, many in this space acted like New York deserved the death and misery we were experiencing.
Many took the position that our Covid pain was due to our status as a very blue state blaming our Democratic governor...
"Cuomo should have, could have, done something to curb the plague."

Many had the attitude that travel from New York (plus New Jersey and Connecticut) should be cut off so that Covid didn't come to their state.
As if a global pandemic would only ravage liberals, Dems and minorities.

It is July, and Americans have pushed to get their jobs back, to open their closed businesses, and resume their social lives.

As we look to celebrate our Independence Day, the plague has introduced itself from coast to coast.
Hospitals are filling up with the 50,000 new cases counted yesterday alone.

There is no end in sight to our suffering unless individuals heed the warnings repeated thousands of times...

Wear a mask in public...or more Americans will remain unemployed.
Wash your hands and sterilize frequently used surfaces...or more businesses will close and go bankrupt.
Socially distance and pick up and take out orders...or cause a deeper recession.

I can't tolerate hearing the vomit that emits Limbaugh's mouth. A few minutes each week I check out Fox to see if that channel is discussing an alternate universe.
But it does not surprise me if those sources are supporting mass suicide. Buyer beware! We have so many sources for our news on politics, economics, and medical, etc.
that no one is forced to listen to hate speech and propaganda.

Sounds like a helluva guy! Please keep him in Texas. Thanks!

The white house.

Yup! But Dr. Joe Biden makes House calls.
Biden has a powerful disinfectant he'll use to clean up the White House mess that has been allowed to spread.

Why is California spiking at all? Why is it none of you science denying leftists want to address that question?

First, may I point out that it is the Republican Party from the White House to the GOP-led state houses,
that deny global warming, climate change, the dangers of fraking, the need to NOT hold political rallies, the need to wear masks, and the stupidity of ingesting bleach as a Covid treatment.

Second, California must have a high proportion of idiots in the population.
THAT is the single greatest reason for new infections since we learned in April what worked, and what did not work.

The criticism that Governor Cuomo took over those months was sickening. I think I had seen every one of his daily briefings. He talked about the numbers -- the deaths, new infections, hot spots. He addressed every issue NY was having regarding lack of ventilators, ICU beds, shortages of staff and PPE. He talked about the plan for NY, what they were targeting, what precautions people should take, how NY was working to clean the subway, end public transportation, stay off the streets, wear masks, social distancing, etc.

In other words he stepped up to the plate like a man and faced this head-on with no bull, no curtains to hide behind, no excuses. He rolled up his sleeves and went to work. He was a leader and I applaud his stamina and valor in standing up against Trump and demanding from him what NY needed. He did nothing more than what is expected of a leader.

And you're right, everyone, including the President of the United States dumped on New York because we're all just a bunch of damned 'libruls' up here - who cares. Well, we tried to warn everyone what was coming their way but they shook it off, they believed that nothing could possibly affect them the way it did NY. It's hard to watch as people learn the hard way because it's not a joke and it's painful. Unfortunately for mankind, it appears that sometimes learning the hard way is the only way people will learn and it was their choice.

they are so slick in how they do it. they took what we all learned in church, wrap in people's known fears and hatred and sell it to those most vulnerable.

hucksters.

I am hopeful that the younger generations will find a way out of this because I think part of the problem are the people who are too cemented in their views to adapt to change. The older I get the more aware I am of the desire to cling to the familiar and resist change, but that awareness keeps me open minded to new ideas; this is useful when you have a teenager.
:)

California had 8600 cases yesterday and they listen to Fauci.

So your posts says that you think Fauci is wrong and a fraud? Really? You believe who then? Who's your go to for Covid-19 recommendations? Trump???

Lol. You libs hate it when I bring up California because it ruins your anti-Trump narrative. But facts are facts my fact denying liberal friend. Deep Blue California is spiking just like Texas.

BUT MOM! THEY DID IT TOO!!

Worked for me as a kid, and I'm sure it did for you as well, because parents everywhere know that is someone else does something, it means it's OK.

That's total BS. You are spewing lies for what reason? Fauci said Tuesday that the very most important thing we do is figure out a way to safely open our schools. Fauci reports on the science as it pertains to the virus. He does not make policy. He leaves that up to the idiots like Trump (And their are many of them).

It's Fauci's job to give the worse case scenarios. And it's also true that 99% of all other virologists are saying the same thing.

This attitude of attacking Fauci and other doctors is the problem with increasing cases. It's rude, stupid and killing people. Get with the program.

Masks
Are
Great
Again

Trump isnt making policy. When are you libs gonna get that through your skulls? State and local governments are in control of this.

BUT MOM! THEY DID IT TOO!!

Worked for me as a kid, and I'm sure it did for you as well, because parents everywhere know that is someone else does something, it means it's OK.

Wow, what a stupid response. I walk all over your propaganda and thats the best you can come up with? Real lame Jasper.

Well, California is a liberal state so that it is filled with idiots goes without saying. But dont any of you libs ever think beyond left'right hackishness? It seems not. Maybe there something causing this beyond politics. If thats the case you can rest assured that no liberal will ever figure it out.

The criticism that Governor Cuomo took over those months was sickening. .
Cuomo and that other liberal stooge, DeBlasio, didnt get a tenth of the criticism they deserved for virtually leading the world in Covid deaths.

No, the Russians and the Chinese are celebrating the Marxist vandals destroying America from the inside while the useful idiot liberals pander to them and cheer them on.

You have a particular talent, a propensity for ignoring factual and historical information.

Wow, what a stupid response. I walk all over your propaganda and thats the best you can come up with? Real lame Jasper.

I'm not a brain dead partisan idiot. Other people can play that role if they like. My substantive comment in this thread is to praise the efforts of my REPUBLICAN Governor and REPUBLICAN mayor, and put most of the blame for an outbreak in my area on local dumbasses who must believe wearing masks and taking precautions is for liberals and ******s, and who are too ****ing stupid to realize that business and safety are two sides of the same coin. And so those dumbasses are going to require we shut down AGAIN.

So if you want to quote my "propaganda" and tell me how your stupid drivel addresses it, be my guest. Quote me and tell me what I got wrong.

Or you do you and spend your entire time in this thread never coming close to an intelligent discussion of anything on the merits.
