I've had chest pain, skipped heartbeats, shortness of breath, and fatigue for the past 7 days. I went to my PCP (physician) and was quickly diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection. The doctor did a swab at the back of my throat that tested positive for staph. I was given a nebulizer treatment, shot of antibiotics, and shot of steroids. I've been prescribed antibiotics (Cefdinir 300) and prednisolone for ten days.
When I asked did I have COVID, the doctor just smiled and shrugged. I think the testing and diagnosis of COVID is discouraged by my HMO Humana. The receptionist told me she had the same thing recently and there was another patient there with similar symptoms. It came on fast and hard and is positional in symptoms. When I lay on my side to sleep the chest discomfort subsides. I don't often catch respiratory diseases and have rarely caught a typical cold. I've never had my chest hurt so much or be so short of breath from a disease since I caught the 2009 swine flu that turned into pneumonia.
I did everything right from the beginning of April by wearing a mask in public, social distancing, washing my hands incessantly, so I don't get why I got it? This must be one highly contagious virus and, hopefully, if I get better, I'll have some antibodies for immunity. I'd advise people to keep practicing prevention, you don't want this. I'm relatively young and in good shape, I can't imagine what's it's like for those with compromised health or 60+.
