The White House on Sunday said that it has sent Brazil 2 million doses of hydroxychloroquine, a drug President Trump promoted to prevent and treat covid-19.

According to a joint statement by the countries, the United States will also deliver 1,000 ventilators to Brazil, which is experiencing a rapid increase in coronavirus cases and has reported 28,834 deaths, fourth behind the United States, Britain and Italy.

Hydroxychloroquine, the statement said, “will be used as a prophylactic to help defend Brazil’s nurses, doctors, and healthcare professionals against the virus. It will also be used as a therapeutic to treat Brazilians who become infected.”

The countries also announced that they would conduct joint research that will include clinical trials, which, the statement said, “will help further evaluate the safety and efficacy of [hydroxychloroquine] for both prophylaxis and the early treatment of the coronavirus.”

Last week, the World Health Organization announced that it had temporarily stopped a global trial of the drug, citing a study that found a significantly higher risk of death among those taking hydroxychloroquine or the closely related drug chloroquine.

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is an ardent admirer of Trump and has played down the severity of the pandemic, calling it a “little flu.”

It can kill certain patients so we don't need it any more, so send it to Brazil. Bolsanaro is Trump's kindred spirit.

No matter how many threads on this same topic you create, the answer is still the same...

Trump is advocating that HCQ be used early in treatment, and preventatively, and no studies have proven that using HCQ early in treatment is harmful in any way

If we found out next week that HCQ, if used preventatively, could guarantee no one would get sick, would that be good news to you, or bad news?

Why is he trying to kill innocent Brazilians?

Why is he trying to kill innocent Brazilians?
Because they are not white but Latino with a heavy mixture of African blood. Some of them might be good people.

It is what our local hospital uses for covid cases

POTUS's own experts dispute his claims as do others throughout the world. Believe him at your own peril.

Hmm. Interesting that Bolsonaro has agreed to accept the drug since this is just a "little flu" and displays this level of leadership:

Bolsonaro said:
So what? I'm sorry, but what do you want me to do?

Bolsonaro said:
The virus is here, we’re going to have to confront it. Confront it like a man, not a boy! We’re all going to die one day.

you don't need one study that finds it harmful, you need SEVERAL that find it safe. Not one study has been completed. (unless you can point me to one)

Lol we've already been through this discussion in 4 other threads:roll: Every time you're faced with data, you guys start up a new thread, thinking you can fool people into not reading through the other threads

"His own experts" is Fauci, Fauci is not fact, he is political, and he is tied to the Cuomos and Jeff Zucker

Please answer the question - If you found out tomorrow that HCQ was effective early and could prevent anyone from getting the disease, would you be happy or pissed? I have my guess...

Believe the lying POTUS at your peril. Trust him with those you love love at your peril.

Nice touch.

I've always thought that comment remains the most bigoted/racist statement Trump's made to date.

problem is, we won't find out tomorrow or even in 6 months - trials and safety evaluations take time

Where is that? And for what purpose - in hospital or early or what? Are they part of a clinical trial?

Also, it’s likely that Jared, Eric and Fredo hope to make a “killing” on their HCG investments since Trump’s recent HCG pimping didn’t work.

See Post #9

I don't know, most of these were treatment studies; in one, it said the FDA does not approve use outside of a hospital because of possible cardiac arrhythmias that need immediate intervention.

I don't know, most of these were treatment studies; in one, it said the FDA does not approve use outside of a hospital because of possible cardiac arrhythmias that need immediate intervention.

The FDA recommendations are based on the two NEJM studies, which only studied patients in severe stages of the illness

Another study just came out of Yale, backing up a slew of studies which had concluded HCQ was effective in early stages of the illness- posted it in a couple of other threads

What's really off, though, in my opinion, is certain liberal posters reading this stuff and treating it like it's some kind of football game - Person makes argument against HCQ use, one point for the Democratic Party, stick a thumbs-up on the post, person makes argument for HCQ use, quick send people to argue with them, etc. Not a big fan of playing political football with HCQ...

If the Democratic Party had an alternative medication to treat COVID, then maybe I'd understand, but what they don't seem to be realizing is that every day they discourage physicians from prescribing HCQ to patients in mild stages of the illness, they could very well be causing death, and I just don't think they get it

I think many people in the Democratic Party would rather have Americans die than have Trump be proven right
