Johnny Cash's granddaughter heckled for wearing protective mask to grocery store, Rosanne Cash says

There was more than one bad police officer just holding down George Floyd.

I used to work for the police department. There is a reason I quit after a very short time.

My husband used to work for the police department. There is a reason he quit after a very short time.

Becoming a cop is a mindset for a certain type of person. I am not saying all cops are bad (but the bad ones seem to be more the rule than the exception). What I am saying is that the idea of having power, carrying a gun, etc, attracts a certain type of person.

When that type of person is allowed to run amok, George Floyd happens.

In what capacity and for how long and why, specifically, did you separate?

I was, for 25 years, a police officer and detective of a major urban police force in a community that was 85% minority and 30+% at or below the poverty line. I managed to do this without having any issues regarding problems with race, undo use of force, or any but a small number of complaints that are going to occur anytime one is dealing with the public when you are dealing with people, causing them consequences they’d rather not deal with and they blame others as the reason for that instead of considering themselves and their actions being responded to as the proper source to be addressed for their situation. Twenty-five years and you could count their number on two hands and have multiple fingers left over when all we’re accounted for and none substantiated because, after a given point, my reputation alone provided no fruitful ground to plant such seeds.

I was far from alone in my department in that.. The vast majority of us came to work wanting to make a living being of some good to society at large and make that living while positively impacting the city we worked for specifically. There were some bad apples in the bunch, but as a percentage I’d bet my net worth fewer than the percentage of bad apples in society in general. Again, the bad apples are far from the rule, and in number fewer than in society in general is my point.

That there should be none is the ideal, a given. That this is possible seeing that we’re talking about human beings, unlikely. How those bad apples that do get through get weeded out is something we can agree requires sitting down by reasonable, rational, people and addressing.

That there is a problem that sorely needs to be addressed, that is a certainty. Is that problem being over stated in the suggestion of how many officers are the root causes of it, most certainly. I can well understand how that might be the case given how much is not understood by the general public about policing (though anyone who’s seen a few episodes of “Law and Order” thinks they know how it works).

So, I’ve given you my bone fida, what’s yours? How are you qualified to make the comments you have with any authority?

OMG. A cop is telling me that all cops are not bad.

Shocker, that.

I’m more than a cop.

I’m educated, articulate and give answers to questions when asked politely to do so.

None of which is evidenced by your’s above in response to my queries.

Care to give it another go?

Pass. I, too, am educated and articulate. As far as giving answers to questions when asked, I’m not sure what you want from me.

Expecting a cop to give an unbiased, unvarnished look at other cops is an exercise in futility.

The blue wall of silence is there for a reason.

And when it all comes down to it, you are still just a cop, and right now, the opinion of a cop means very little to me. Any cop.

So you’ll excuse me if I don’t take umbrage at your attempts to insult me.

You are, after all, just a cop.

Ok... that’s not too biased an outlook. You have no knowledge of me as an individual but because I did a certain thing for a living I must be this sort of person.

And why should anyone give any thought to your views if you’ve shown no desire to be open minded yourself? A definite breech in Golden Rule ethics, asking of others what you’re not prepared to give yourself.

And I’m not trying to insult you. I’m pointing out a deficiency in your response in that it lacks depth and breadth, thus giving any gravitas to your conclusions.

I was fairly succinct in what I asked of you. That you responded with an ad hominem tact further suggests you are ill prepared to back up those conclusions that I simply suggested weren’t factual, giving experience in dealing with the specific substance being discussed as the foundation of my counter argument.

Have a nice day.

Where did I ask you to give any thought to my views?

I don’t really care if you give thought to my views or not.

You are a cop. Your opinion regarding other cops is tainted, varnished, and invalid.

Now you have a nice day.

Apparently you don’t understand how public forums on websites work.

Your posting is a tacit request and permission for anyone, including me, to respond to it. So you did ask.

No reason you should care, unless you don’t mind that in not responding to a well formed counter argument it allows others to consider that in drawing conclusions on the merits of your POV.

There is that bias and lack of Golden Rule ethical thinking showing again.

I do, despite your obvious lack of any consideration of my being anything more than “just a cop”, though I’d say that even if that was all I am that ain’t so bad, wish you well...

Geez, you really like to hear yourself talk, don’t you?

Bet you are great fun at parties.

Fixed it for you.

You didnt actually. You are simply engaging in personal attacks because you lack the brains to ague the topic. Go ahead. Give it one more shot.

I never attacked you. Not once.

Attacking you is against the rules - you know, like you how you attacked me by saying I lacked the brains to "ague" (sic) the topic.

You claimed no one takes non innocent trips to the store. I proved you wrong. Accept defeat with grace.

I did not claim that... nice Straw Man though...

I do, and quite often actually. There's often the need to take a trip to the store and knock down displays and disorganize the produce section. I enjoy the idea of someone buying collard greens thinking it's Swiss chard, or mixing Ethiopian coffee beens in the Indonesian batch at the coffee grinding section. Serves them right for pre-grinding coffee.

See Eco... THIS is how you prove me wrong. I stand corrected Chupa. Malevolent trips to the store do happen. :)

If its not lack of brains, what is it?

She is heckled for taking an "innocent trip" to the store? Do some people take a "malevolent trip" to the store?

Yes, Bodi. Yes, they do.

I did once in Cleveland.

I am now banned from the entire state of Ohio.

I've made many a malevolent trip to many a place. At any given moment, I'm malevolently on my way somewhere. Maybe I'll just tell a person they're stupid, but I got something for someone.

So you are personally attacking me, after you accused me of personally attacking you (which I did not).

Not sure what you are trying to prove here, but you are failing miserably.

I didnt insult you, I asked a question. Hence the (?) :roill: You claimed my post was stupid then went on to claim that of all my posts yet want to pretend you werent attacking me personally. :lamo Who do you think you are kidding? Dont attack then play victim.

Those are both personal attacks, directed at me.

Now, show me where I attacked you.

Here you go.
Fixed it for you.

Your posts are like - you know when you put the trash can on the side of the road for pick up, and it rains and gets inside the can? Then you got all this disgusting soup in the bottom of the can? Shrimp heads and loose coffee grounds and old newspaper? Yeah. That’s what your posts are like.

The only difference is that you initially got enjoyment out of the shrimp, coffee and newspaper. The same can’t be said for your posts.
Granted its a lame attack but its a personal attack just them same.
