Coronavirus US live: Cuomo to sign 'no mask, no entry' order for businesses | US news | The Guardian

New York governor Andrew Cuomo will sign an executive order allowing businesses to deny entry to customers not wearing masks. “That store owner has a right to protect himself,” Cuomo said of the order. “That store owner has a right to protect the other patrons in that store.”

Wise move, though I'm sure a lot of 'no maskers' will object. Since most of them will be Trump supporters, who cares?

No order is necessary. Private businesses already have that right. "No shirt. No shoes. No service" is legal in the U.S. This is both a needless power grab -- store owners don't need Cuomo's permission to set their own policies -- and a BS political flex.

Good move on his part. If people want to go out and touch escalators and lick their unwashed hands, they should be free to do so, and risk getting the virus. But people who have to go to work should be protected from such idiocy.

You realize the order is not mandatory, it's if the store decides to.......which as Ghostly Joe pointed out, they ALWAYS had that right....

Typical New York politician. Months into needing to wear masks, Cuomo makes it optional... awful. At least he's stopped touting hydroxychloroquine.

It protects stores from getting sued when they do it. That way they don't have to spend their money to fight an idiotic Trumptard lawsuit. The Trumptard would have to sue the state. Good luck.

Curious then, what protects stores from being sued when they refuse service for no shoes or no shirt?

Without the order, there are people who tell the store owner that he has no right to demand they wear a mask. With the order the owner who is trying to do the right thing can refer to the governor’s order which specifically gives him the right. A small distinction perhaps but one which could help the store owner diffuse a conflict.

Trump should have done this on Jan. 20, the latest day he was told a pandemic was coming. That’s what a competent leader would have done.

Instead, he fired everybody who was science literate, not to mention fire ALL oversight. Graft.

Even with a real science leader, like either Bush, Nixon, IKE, T. Roosevelt, and Lincoln, we were staring years of sacrifice ahead.

No one has made no shoes, no shirt a political issue so no lawsuit.

Back in January when he was insisting we would max out at 15 cases and then it would magically disappear? Back when he was thanking President Xi on behalf of all Americans for the phenomenal way he was handling the pandemic, and how he was completely transparent and honest about things?

That January?

Yes, this is political grandstanding by the guy who needs to direct attention away from his disastrous nursing home policy. Several businesses in my area require masks for entry. Most retail establishments dont because they dont want to turn anyone away. But their ability to do so has always existed

Cuomo to sign 'no mask, no entry' order for businesses

should be nationwide. smokers aren't allowed to light up in public, and COVIDiots should be forced to take precautions, as well. if it pisses them off to be forced to use common sense, all the better.

So why are you telling me?

Because you seemed so happy that stores were FINALLY allowed to do this? I didn't think you realized they were ALWAYS allowed to do this,

I know you have trouble with nuance and implications etc, just wanted to help you see the light.

Point to my post where I said something about being so happy that stores were FINALLY allowed to do this. I'll wait.

And there you go again missing nuance,

When I say it SEEMED so happy....what do you think that means, do you think that means that somewhere you STATED you were SO HAPPY ?

Don't assume what I SEEM. It makes you look stupid as we are posting anonymously and unseen, and you wouldn't have the slightest clue about what I think or believe.

Here is my post again, where I never said anything about being happy. If you can't understand my post, that's your issue.

Like I said, you seemed happy that businesses were FINALLY allowed to do that, seemingly not knowing they already had that ability.

Here's a question for ya, ready? WHY was it a "good move" on his part?

If you can't read my post, which said why it was a good move, then stop quoting me. I have no time to engage with people who troll or are just incapable of reading words in properly spelled English.

Unless you have conducted a scientific poll, you are making an ignorant assertion as to who supports mask wearing based on only your biased opinion.

Power grab?

How much more ridiculous can you reactionaries get?

Signing an Executive Order does not take power away from a business owner. I gives that business owner guidelines from the public’s servants based on the experts reccomendations.

When the Trumpster idiots assert thier “right” to expose everyone else with their irresponsible behavior, the business owner has another reason to throw them out (or have them locked up).

That’s what leadership is. Pointing the way, and giving guidance.

I have no idea what force of law Executive Orders have in New York law. But Cuomo does.

This stupid tea party trash about power grabs is downright juvenile.

If you want to know what happens when the leaders abdicate their responsibility to set tone and example, you only need look at the chaos at the beaches in the wake of Trumps promotion of ignoring precautions.
