New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo admitted Monday that coronavirus projections from experts were all wrong -- and he's getting out of the business of speculating because of it.

Cuomo said he can't predict when the hospitalization and death rate numbers will drop to the necessary threshold required for reopening certain regions because as he put it, "we all failed" at predicting.

"Now, people can speculate. People can guess. I think next week, I think two weeks, I think a month," Cuomo told reporters on Memorial Day. "I'm out of that business because we all failed at that business. Right? All the early national experts. Here's my projection model. Here's my projection model. They were all wrong. They were all wrong."

When their "heroes" fall flat on their face, there is always an excuse.

But I bet we are still going to hear the refrain "Trump KNEW! Experts told him! He shoulda/coulda/woulda done something way back when..."

Are you serious? He had more folks die just in nursing homes than some states had in their entirety. He screamed and whined about needed 40,000 ventilators and when Trump got them for him he used about 5000.
 
I’m not sure why Cuomo would say that all the experts predictions failed. Fauci predicted back on 3/29 that 100,000 to 200,000 Americans would die. This was when we only had 2,000 deaths and people were shocked at a 100 to 200 thousand projection, especially when he called that a middle of the road prediction, not worst case. That prediction still looks like it could be reasonable. Of course the models can’t predict what PEOPLE will do in response to the virus, that is one of the biggest variables.

He was OK while saying that we can’t predict when a given area would be able to reopen due to their meeting certain criteria. That’s not what’s being modeled. He got off base though when he said all the early models were wrong.

Which metrics would you use to compare Cuomo to other governors? NY state has by far the most deaths per unit population of any state in the union, kn the order of 15X the deaths of states like California and Florida, and 30X states like Texas and Oregon.

The next day, because of Fauci's projection, Trump said 100k.

The next day, because of Fauci's projection and days between doubling and graphs, I guessed 50k in April. I adjusted that to 60k in April mid month. At the end of April, I said 100k by the end of May.

By April 1, these numbers were not a mystery to anyone.

As this continues longer, Fauci's projection appears to depend on measures taken to mitigate infection rate.

Trump has been a non-actor, MIA; not the first time in his wretched life. What’s the distraction tomorrow? You know it’s coming. It’s the one thing you can always count on, what they call Trumpocalypse.

He’s too afraid of taking on GOP Governors doing EXACTLY the same thing as DEM governors —> DeWine, Sununu, Baker, Hogan, Herbert, Holcomb, Scott, Burgum and Reeves.

A subjective and miserably uninformed opinion. NY state alone had more cases than Italy and Spain combined.

(1) shrill partisanship fails as discussion (2) NY state has many more citizens than most states, even put together (3) with a vast metro area of people living cheek to jowl.

A lack of educated understanding above fails to inform the reader that NY with perhaps more cases than Spain and Italy had about 40% of their deaths.

Thank you for doing as well as you did, Cuomo. Trump would have killed you all.

why would Trump care? it doesn't cost him any $$$$. it's just a bunch of old Republicans dying.
