China has been trying to avoid fallout from coronavirus. Now 100 countries are pushing for an invest

I wonder how many are pushing to find guilt and how many are pushing to prove the opposite and put this to bed.

I blame WHO, we should have walked away from that fraud of an organization a long way back.

What's to investigate? Some Chinese dude with gum disease was gnawing on a bat-on-a-stick, and he caught the virus. From him it spread across the world and killed almost a hundred thousand people in America.

Exactly the Chinese could not be responsible. They are good folks.

Really- trying to find out the truth behind this virus spread, Chinese coverup is somehow xenophobic?

Not always.

Trump demanded that the WHO implement reforms and prove its independence from China. A period of 30 days. Otherwise, the US will finally stop funding the organization.
Good old blackmail. There is only one way to "prove independence" - to fall into complete dependence on the United States.

An investigation is warranted. China had a opportunity to contain this outbreak early on, but lost the opportunity because the were bent on keeping it under wraps, even going so far as to bring charges of rumour-spreading against doctors that sounded the alarm early. I don't pretend to know the motivation, but it's definitely an opportunity lost, and the blame there rest solely with China.

Maybe the investigation will reveal that the virus was too transmissible to contain, or maybe it will show that this all could have been avoided. How unfortunate that would be.

Was that the lunch special at the Wuhan Institute of Virology cafeteria that day?

It' interesting that so many folks are forced by their hatred of Trump to embrace the enemies of America.

Unfortunate for those who are demanding China be at fault or for some other reason?

Perhaps they simply recognize scapegoating as a political tactic vs your claim that they are embracing enemies of the United States.

No, unfortunate if the investigation reveals this could have been stopped in the early stages, and the opportunity was squandered.

It is what it is. At most we are posting about a couple of weeks one way or another where a case can be made that local officials weren't quite sure what a new pneumonia like disease was. It's not like they were warned in advance about what was coming and then wasted a couple of months not getting masks and supplies ready.

IMO it's political theater at this point.

Yep, it's become far too political now, and we are talking about weeks, not months. But I have to say, they were warned about this new viral pneumonia by a few doctors early on, and chose to punish and censor those giving the early warnings rather than act and notify other nations of a new transmissible disease. This really is my main grievance.

There were cases detected in France in December and potentially in November

Yeah, I read about it recently. It may be that by the time they were notified, the virus had already spread and nothing could have been done at that point. It doesn't change the fact that they attempted to conceal it initially, even if it was already too late. To me, the intent matters regardless.

They tried not to create a panic which would disrupt the economy over what they though might just be a flu

Does that not seem like a though process many countries and leaders had regarding Covid 19.

Interesting. Of course Australia would be pushing some xenophobic blame game like this.
Good thing the US was MIA from this world affair. Derelict-in-Duty. Leading from the rear.
Allowing Chinese President Xi Jinping to dominate the conference. Donate $2 Billion to WHO.

Never questioning nor criticizing Xi by name. Just like Vlad.
Uninterested in the world-wide pandemic. Not quite as science illiterate as Bosonaro.

If that was the actual situation and their actual intent, I can understand the motivation to downplay. To your question: yes, that was the initial reaction by many governments.

Consider though that China was the initial source of this novel virus. In order to improve our responses to such things we as a world community need to know what exactly went wrong and why.

But was this intentional at the national level or at a lower local portion of government. One of the failings of a Communist government is that local officials are big into not wanting to report bad news up the line till they are absolutely sure of the ground they are standing on. Who am I kidding, we do the same here. While it is a fault in the chain of government, is it really a national decision of such import that it requires wording upping the tension on the world stage to yet another level?

If it is, then we are going to have to take a look at the national responsibility we have for some of the stupid stuff coming out of our lower levels of our government. After all, Jared advised Donald that going into an emergency acquisition of masks would upset the stock market.

Good questions, and I think your speculation about local officials not feeding bad news up the chain is bang on. Hopefully smarter people than I can provide meaningful answers.

I take your point about the poor American response, but at least in this case it's clearly not root cause of the pandemic.

I hope it's not going to be the root cause of a lot of unnecessary extra death.
