I'd like to thank my good friends at CNN:

Why Donald Trump's idea that he saved millions of lives is laughable - CNNPolitics

"But here's the thing. If you look at the actual guts of the Imperial College London projection, it's clear that 2 million Americans weren't ever going to die from coronavirus."

While I understand that the thrust of this is "Trump can't take credit for saving 1.9 million lives", at least we have the MSM coming on board with reality.

The question that needs to be asked then is "why did you say they would die?"

It was clear from the beginning 2 million weren't going to die, and about the only people pushing the 2.2 million number since then have been right wing hacks using the number to discredit Ferguson. We see it several times a week on DP. I addressed that BS point just yesterday, from someone using it to discredit Ferguson.

2 million is if Trump's plan, do nothing, was followed.

Yup. I think it was Fauci that said if we did nothing it would be in the 1-2M range.

That’s right.

Trump is peddling a worst case/ do nothing top end projection, and claiming that he (and he alone) led all the measures to flatten the curve.

Of course, Trump never shut anything down. And never led on anything with regard to this crisis. He has had to be shamed or shown up constantly. And he is clearly totally focused only on himself and his re election prospects.

He has no idea what to do, and has no sense of responsibility.

So he pulls these worst case projections out of his “hat” and then tells you that he saved all those lives.

And you don’t even believe it anymore.

The 1918-9 Spanish flu killed 650,000 Americans. Given Trump's bungling, the projection of only 450,000 dead from COVID-19 seems entirely reasonable. That's more people than we lost in combat in WW2.

We'll see if that statement holds true in 4 months.

If it's 450,000 dead by Nov. 1, who knows where this thing will top out before it goes away?
