NY Gov. Cuomo on '''surprising''' result of coronavirus antibody test

In many other posts, I repeatedly talked about this virus having been here since November or early December and typically many of you here either ignored me or made derisive remarks. One such remark I recall was something like "Duh, if it was here before Trump locked China down, how come more people didn't get sick and die? Huh? Huh!" to which I replied that there would be no way for a doctor to know if a person died from COVID-19 since it was unknown at the time and all those illnesses and deaths before the lock down were attributed to the common flu. I got the 'deer-in-the-headlights" for that which is to say that not a one of you responded because none of you had a clue as to how to answer this logical question even after I pointed out that it was known that the virus was in Wuhan in November and we can figure out how many people came from China between mid November and the end of January, which was a minimum of 100,000 and probably more like 250,000.

Now it is turning out that testing in New York and Los Angeles are showing many more people have the COVID-19 in their systems and that they had it in December and/or January. What I want to know is why in the hell is this a surprise to anyone? People that are the Governors of STATES and other alleged leaders couldn't see what I saw months ago and have to be told?? Cuomo was SURPRISED to learn this?

THIS is what we are dealing with folks. Absolute imbeciles running states like Cuomo and Whitmer who cannot understand common sense and logic. Not only this, but the fact that many people got the virus and didn't get sick or die is a good thing because that means the actual death rate due to infection of COVID-19 is hundreds of times less than what the "experts" thought. Here a governor charged with running a highly populated state didn't know the virus was here and infecting people in November and December and what I knew all along is some big revelation to this moron POS?

Now all of you know why Trump couldn't do diddly about this and the lock down was like closing the barn door after the horses got out, as I also said in previous posts.

Finally, it is complete bull**** to include preexisting conditions because 80% of the people dying are over 65 with major, major health issues going in. They call it covid-19 when they find ANY corona virus in their system, which most people have anyway.

All of you lefties need to calm down and relax. This is a virus that is just slightly worse than the common flu. NO lock down should have ever occurred. We are like scared little rabbits running away and trying to find a hole to hide in. This is media driven hysteria.

Look at the damn chart I posted. The deaths are mainly in NYC and NJ, heavily populated with Asians and a populace that is on average 2 years older than the rest of the United States and a city that shoves people into subways, buses, trains and high rises. The rest of the United States has minimal deaths.
 
These results are not surprising at all. The question is how we will alter our response. So far, the Democrats are only tightening the screws.

Most young people barely notice they're infected. Some don't even notice.

Preexisting conditions don't cause death. Viruses do.

Those who die from the flu also have preexisting conditions. Please tell us how these statistics would be modified if you apply the same logic you do to covid.

No, it's estimated to be around 0.37%-0.66% per studies from a few weeks ago. NYC has it higher than 0.6%-0.9% according to Cuomo quotes, and rest of NY State is higher than 0.45%. Original estimates were NOT hundreds of times larger.

Really? Then we wait and see how many LESS normal deaths there has been during this sane time period. Do you need a link to an article asking "why are there are no heart attacks anymore?"

If including preexisting conditions is the norm, why do other countries who aren't dependent on government bailouts not include them?

Your premise is ridiculous and would apply ONLY if there are the same amount of people dying during this same time period from strokes, heart attacks, liver disease, obesity, etc. They are NOT! All things being equal, there has to be similar deaths for those diseases where COVID-19 is NOT a factor. To include people that may have a few days, a week or a month to live as COVID-19 deaths is ignorant.

They have done only limited testing. I am going to bet that if they tested many more people they are going to find half the populace has it.

I don't think you understand how statistical sampling works.

In fact, their figures are an UPPER bound because they tested people who were normally out and about thus somewhat biasing results to be higher.

You're saying that if there are normally 5000 deaths in an area from heart attacks, strokes and what not during a certain time period of say three months the year before, and now there are just 100, that this is the way to calculate COVID-19 deaths The other 4900 that had traces of COVID-19 are COVID-19 deaths? Does this make a lick of sense to a rational thinking human??

Not really. Somewhere in my phone is a string of texts from my sister the night she thought she was going to spontaneously combust but refused to let me come take her to the ER that was followed by a generic diagnosis the next day of a "serious respiratory infection" by her doctor. This was back in early february when there were no cases in my state. In retrospective, she had all the symptoms of the virus and the sudden spike in temperature to around 104 when she has never had a fever that high was probably a missed clue.

We are going to find more and more of this as times goes on and the cat is now out of the bad. This should have been realized immediately....as soon as we knew the virus was in November. I am hearing of lots more people who were sick in December (son included) and January.

Had they realized this early on, they could have acted differently. Certainly they cannot blame Trump for not acting "quickly' anyone because this was virus was already raging throughout the United States well BEFORE the lock down. This point needs to be hammered home.

We also need to do something about including preexisting conditions which is downright stupid. Take them out and the death rate is less than a quarter of what is shown.

I'm not a lefty, but I join anyone who's convinced this ain't the flu. This disease apparently attacks the blood vessels, thus potentially affecting every organ in the body and not just the lungs. We're seeing otherwise healthy young adults with strokes, amputations, and multiple organ failure. The truth is we really don't know much about the long-term health effects of this virus. So go ahead and expose yourself if you want to. I'm steering clear for the moment as a hermit in my home until the major threat is reduced to a reasonable level, which it isn't at the moment.
