I've often noted that most Democrats on the forum are so consumed in the 24/7 campaign of terror and hate mongering - for which they are consumed with personal terror and hate - that they are incapable of discussing or debating any topic. All they can do is rant against Trump, make personal attacks or ridicule the poster, or desperately try to divert the topic.

Being cripplied by fear and filled with hate strips a person of their intellect and degrades them to their most primitive emotional state. Most Americans as a result of weeks of a 24/7 campaign of bio-terrorism thru every info network now have an IQ than an adult with Down Syndrome.

Scientists made estimates. I believe the estimate for the US was at least a million deaths. Predictions for the UK (pop. 70m) was at least a hundred thousand deaths.

That's just two countries.

Sweden is doing what you suggest. They are now regretting it. The flu doesn't cause our healthcare system to be overwhelmed. Hopefully the medical community will come up with a treatment, cure and vaccine.

and we have stay at home orders each year. that's why the OPs comparison is apples to apples.

Death is not the only harms a person faces. Economic harm is really harm. Losing your home and becoming homeless is a harm. Losing a business and home your worked your whole life for - ending up a pauper in your old age is a harm. Being successfully subjected to a 24/7 bio-terrorism campaign is a harm (I can't imagine how terrified many elderly trapped alone in their homes are other than I know many who are - desperately and hysterically terrified,) and losing your family and marriage for massive economic lose is a harm.

Solitary confinement is considered torture. Lets compare Sweden (no lockdown) with their Scandinavian neighbours Norway and Finland (lockdown). All 3 have similar demographics and living standards.

Sweden = 106 deaths today; 793 deaths in total.
Norway = 7 deaths today; 106 deaths in total
Finland = 2 deaths today; 42 deaths in total

Let's double Norways and Finlands figures as they have half the population size. That gives us 212 and 84. So no lockdown has resulted in 4x more deaths so far. That ratio will increase.

The cases in Sweden keep rising, though not at the level we're seeing here or in countries like Italy and Spain. Sweden's chief epidemiologist's view is that they'll be ok provided the hospitals don't get overwhelmed, which thus far has not happened. If that approach would have been used here, we would be in a far worse situation than we already are in heavily impacted areas. It's also important to note that Sweden hasn't taken a completely laissez faire approach either, since they've applied social distancing recommendations and placed limitations on group gatherings.

The comparisons to the flu are always comical because they ignore the direct impact COVID 19 has had in high population density areas. Hospitals have been overwhelmed with patients and have resorted to renting refrigerated trucks as makeshift morgues; I don't recall that being a normal flu season effect. Clearly, some miss the point of the healthcare system being overwhelmed which then affects more than just COVID 19 patients.

Exactly. If the measures weren't in place we have many more filling our hospitals in addition to have the everyday emergencies. Sheer chaos and a fair amount would die for lack of medical care. Imagine how many more nursing homes would be overwhelmed. One of the benefits of self quarantine and social distancing is the lack of cars (accidents) on the road as well as a major reduction in crime.

Why are you posting here and not out in the community if it's no big deal? Plenty of hospitals and nursing homes would love volunteers right now, especially those we are willing to volunteer without PPE.

Of course, all of life's decisions are a trade-off. Always!!! Yes. there is more domestic abuse occurring under lockdown. On the other hand, fewer people a dying of the C-virus and the seasonal flu because of social distancing. More people are working at home. That means that people are also avoiding traffic accidents.
It has been shown, repeatedly, that an ounce of prevention can eliminate a world of hurt and all the pain that you list in your post would have occurred in spades if we had allowed the virus to have its way. Pandemics are a predictable occurrence. It amazes me that the U.S. , so thoroughly prepared for phantom threats , is caught with its pants down for predictable ones.

Absolutely no one will discuss it because it is not what they are told on TV, other than a tad on FOX maybe.

There are many aspects of American culture that is superior. But every American is born to the TV as their truth teller about everything. How to dress, act, think. What is humorous (laugh tracks). What is bad by music or pointing down at the person with a camera. In kindergarten the teacher says 1 +1 = 2 and C is for cat. The child repeated it - and gets an A. So proud! TV becomes the teacher. Almost all Americans never leave kindergarten in relation to TV. TV is now their kindergarten teacher. They remain a kindergartener until the day they die.

They are told happiness is found in giving rich people money. These new clothes, this new car, the more you buy, the happier, more popular you will be - this year - but not next year. Certainly not in 2 years. In two years, those same clothes are unhappiness, means your's loser No one will like you. Don't you want the better new thing? You earned it. It will make you happier. It all is none stop informericals. Not just the commercials - but all of it - every second they are telling you what you must buy to be happy - prove you're smart too, prove you are success. Don't make your own coffee. Buy it every day for $2 because you earned it and it will make you happy. All McDonald's meals are "happy meals" - why cooking at home? Losers save money and eat better making their own meals. Besides you earned buying all that happiness.

The happiness bought this year is the future's worthless junk even if all still works just fine. Must always buy new happiness.

Even if you are massively in credit card debt, don't save a dollar. Buy happiness. And how do you that? By being their servants, their employees. I remember my wife telling me when in her senior year, in a class they asked each student what is the goal in life. She was the only one to say "have children and make a home, that is my purpose, that is my goal." Oh the ridicule! She isn't seeking a corporate career to serve an organzation? And how much happiness then could she buy? Her goal in life isn't consumerism and being a little cog in some corporate or governmental organization because that is the road to happiness. How many people truthfully can say "I love my job!"

I did not grow up in the culture people on this did. I was never allowed to watch TV, nothing really ever spent on me, none of the constant consumerism and corporatism endless indoctrination. I learned something else - thinking things thru to survive - and question everyone's true motives towards me. As a result, I'm a real oddball on this forum. From the very start it was clear this is entirely about money. Shifting wealth from the middle class to the upper class. Make people safe by forcing them to shop at WalMart - the most likely of all placed to be infected or infect others? Yet no one can even discuss it. Rather, it is about toilet paper. Having toilet paper will make yoiu happy.

NO ONE - not one person - will even discuss this or consider it. Just which talk head who is their fact-man-gods. Never to be questioned. All that matters, the only thing relevant is what they said the last time they heard them. Irrelevant if it is 100% opposite that same talking head - all just actors - said yesterday.

To me, America really has become an idiocracy. I don't mean that as hyperbole. The current non-stop informercial of the super rich is a pure terror and hate bio-terrorism - all profiting the super rich - the greatest wealth and power grab on a worldwide level probably in world history. And they didn't have to fire a shot. We did it to ourselves for them.
