"Is America a Roaring Giant or Crying Baby?"

I don't pretend to know how to restructure the economy; figuring that out would be the first task of the roaring lion. You criticize the semantics of my statement about taking them out of the driver's seat. Restructuring the economy will do that. Maybe you don't like my analogy - fine. Seems to me a "roaring lion" wouldn't just sit back and do nothing. I argue for the return and maintenance of a strong middle class because it is essential for capitalism to succeed. The wealthy elite have been destroying the middle class. Maybe you are one of the elite. If not, I would think you would like to break the puppet strings that control you.

I am not elite and working as a self-employed handyman do not feel any puppet strings. Changing the puppet master from being a private elite to being a public elite does not take the puppet master (boss) out of the picture. What many fail to see is that becoming someone's employee (agreeing to work to for them for a wage/salary) does not make them into a business partner (give them ultimate decision making power) with either a private or public job.

EO 9066 was the internment order for Japanese Americans (as well as some Germans and Italians), most of whom were US citizens.
The Contert of the Decision. First, the exclusion and removal
were attacks on the ethnic Japanese which followed a long and ugly
history of west coast anti-Japanese agitation and legislation. Antipathy
and hostility toward the ethnic Japanese was a major factor of the public
life of the west coast states for more than forty years before pearl
Harbor. under pressure from california, immigration from Japan had
been severely restricted in 1908 and entirely prohibited in 1924. Japanese immigrants were barred from American citizenship, although
their children born here were citizens by birth. california and the
other western states prohibited Japanese immigrants from owning land.
In part the hostility was economic, emerging in various white American
groups who began to feel competition, particularly in agriculture, the
principal occupation of the immigrants. The anti-Japanese agitation
also fed on racial stereotypes and fears: the "yellowperil" of an unknown
Asian culture achieving substantial influence on the Facific coast or of
a Japanese population alleged to be growing far faster than the white
population' This agitation and hostility persisted, even though the
ethnic Japanese never exceeded three percent of the population of
California, the state of greatest concentration.

Rather ironic bringing up anti-Asian racism ...in a discussion where most right wingers still want to refer to CV19 as a "Chinese" virus.

It IS a Chinese virus and the majority of Japanese that got locked up WERE US citizens. If you want to defend FDR's action then so be it.

That was at least partly to protect Japanese Americans from reprisals but no I am to proud of it.

viruses do not have nationalities. Those who persist in using such nomenclature contribute to the growing levels of anti-Asian violence associated with this pandemic.

Who were being detained based on racism that came from those on the West coast.

FDR regretted allowing WC racists to push him to sign off on it, he rescinded the order in '44. You REALLY need to research the history leading up to the order. I gave you the link to chapter 1.Here is the rest:

False, it was a racist act against a tiny minority, the excuse it was done to "protect" Asians is a canard.

"We're going to protect you by locking you up". Yeah, that TOTALLY sounds like a left wing progressive "solution".

So wait a minute, FDR was the one that made the decision. There isn't anyone else's signature on that EO and the fact that he later rescinded it DOES NOT mean that it never happened.

Just....wow.

Too bad that most of us posting today will not be able to see how history records this period.

Sure, preparing for the next pandemic is a priority. We need protective gear and test kits at the very least.

That said, we can look into why America's response to this coronavirus pandemic was so poor. Poor in comparison to Korea.

If we discover our mistakes, that will help in preparing our defense.

We can do both at the same time.

South Korea, and Taiwan in particular, suffered with the Chinese SARS outbreak. They learned to prepare for the next microbial horror coming out of China. And it has arrived. BTW, the Chinese downplayed the SARS epidemic in exactly the same manner they did this one.

I never argued it "did not happen".

Yeah, wow, you notified me of your pointless response. Did you even attempt to read the review?

Drawing a comparison to American response to December 7th, 1941, Victor Davis Hanson says that we can either wake up as we did then and determine that Americans control their own fundamentals of life, or we can scapegoat, play the blame-game and ridicule "protectionism" and "economic chauvinism" and "conduct endless congressional inquiries about who said what and when about the virus, and perhaps reopen impeachment." The choice is ours. Coronavirus Crisis: America Must Prepare for Next Pandemic | National Review

"There are other vows to recalibrate our relationship with China to ensure that when the next successor to SARS and COVID-19 hits, American lives will not be jeopardized by the duplicity of the Chinese government. At the beginning of the outbreak, Beijing hid the origins, nature, and transmissibility of the virus, then lied about its supposedly brilliant control of the epidemic.

The American public is already asking tough questions.

Does the U.S. really need almost 15,000 people flying in from China each day? At a time when American students owe $1.5 trillion in student loans, it is smart to have some 360,000 Chinese students enrolled in U.S. colleges? Is it safe to fund hundreds of labs on university campuses that conduct joint research with Chinese academics?"

If you want to compare two similar land masses, compare South Korea to this state, Idaho. We have but 15 deaths as of today the 9th. Compare that to S Korea.

All I know right now is that the current control the wealthy elite exert on the country will drive us into the ground. They control us by shipping out our good jobs, they oppose minimum wage and structure American enterprise to eliminate full-time long-term employment so they don't have to give workers any benefits. They use us as pawns in their Wall Street gambling, always trying to find ways to make money without working - that may be their worst sin. They also operate more subtly in concert with the military-industrial-congressional complex; they try to change the mindset of the country. They set up tax deductible "philanthropic" foundations that come with strings attached to control what gets taught in schools, what and how scientific research is done, what foreign policies we develop, what wars we start. etc. You may not see it but they manipulate the entire American experience to support their mysterious greed - I mean how can it be that you literally never have enough money?

I think Dr. Hanson was talking about the American spirit at both these times of crisis.

I lived during WW2 and believe me, for American coastal cities, we were on high alert all the time. We could not have lights on in the home unless shaded in a way. To keep the enemy from seeing our cities.

Hanson also said a lot more in his article than the OP suggests is there.

Amazing to read the same claims here daily made for eons by guess who? Democrats of course. This is old time blaming republicans. Supposedly only when Democrats rule us are we prosperous, healthy and wise. Same old crap rolled into a new cigar. Democrats lie to you folks.

My Son saved a prodigious amount of money. His former wife collected over her half million and left him with his.

In the past month he has raked in $71,000 from the stock market. Get it yet? He risked not your money, but his own money on the stock I recommended to him and raked in over $71.000. Not one dollar he made cost you a dime. He paid a contractor to install a new heating, AC and garage heating system. Man he sure helped the contractor and his crew make money.

Yep, how can "they" possibly keep someone as bright, productive and creative as you are from having enough money? What, exactly, have "they" done to you?

RSK has a population of over 51 million, potatoland 1.7M. RSK is a major international industrial powerhouse, an Asian tiger.....potatoland has...potatoes....and lots of racists up around Coeur d'Alene.

So what? It has 204 deaths and we have had 15.

French Fries anybody? Ever heard of them? Ever find them at fast food eating places?

As you say...so what?...are you going to make a point? RSK with a population 30 time yours has less than that ratio in deaths while being far ahead in when the pandemic hit them. Most of the deaths were caused in large measure by the intentional spread by a religious cult early on. They are going thru their 3rd wave of infections, you are barely into your 1st yet. I have no idea whut yer point is. Make one up....go ahead.

While I do think we should not open impeachment, I think we do have to have some commission to formally look at our actions. I think there was a lot of good and bad - federal, state, city, and individual.

Since it is likely we may be going through this again...it is important to understand successes and failures as soon as possible.

I would do not think we need to see this televised, but our elected reps should have the ability to take part. It need not be a TV spectacle. But the findings should be public.
