India has approved some exports of hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malaria drug being touted as a possible coronavirus treatment, after apparent pressure from Donald Trump, who has been urging Americans to take it.

The tablets are used to prevent and treat malaria, lupus and rheumatoid arthritis but over the past week the US president has been aggressively promoting the drug as a treatment for coronavirus, despite there being no conclusive medical evidence to prove its efficacy.

Must everything have anterior motives?
Our nation is facing a crises, and the President saw a glimmer of hope in a drug that has been used to treat corona viruses in the past,
and was being used by the Chinese for Covid-19. A small French study showed promising, results, but not in a tightly controlled test.
Also, several drug companies are now making hydroxychloroquine.
I wonder if the patents have expired?
 
During a press briefing at the White House on Monday, Trump said: “I spoke to him [Modi] Sunday morning, called him, and I said we’d appreciate your allowing our supply to come out. If he doesn’t allow it to come out, that would be OK, but of course, there may be retaliation. Why wouldn’t there be?”

Typical spin and lies.

The fact is, Trump didn't say he "pressured" Modi. Trump didn't say that he "threatened retaliation".

This is an outright, spinning lie from the media.

The only thing Trump said about what he spoke to Modi is this: "...I said we’d appreciate your allowing our supply to come out."

We, perhaps have reason to question Trump's self assessment of genius, but he may well be very lucky!
If just by chance, He named the drug combination, that proves to be a game changer against Covid-19,
I think it would be more than luck!

India is the largest producer of the drug. Another case of the inconvenience of globalism.

BTW: WE taxpayers are on the bill for this and all other care, regardless how you split it up.

US politicians who are against it want the pandemic to continue for political reasons. “Off label” simply means the medical lobby wants you to use more expensive drugs they have patents on, and they hire lobbyists to enforce that.

The sooner the virus goes away, the sooner the economy rebounds, and deeper in political kim chee the democrats are in.
 
This is the way I see it as far as hydroxychloroquine is concerned. The placebo effect can be powerful even if the actual drug does nothing.

You should watch the question and Trump's answer during the briefing. You can see it at about 30:55 in this video: YouTube

Nowhere in that question and answer did Trump say that he pressured Modi or mentioned retaliation to Modi. This notion that he did is totally made up by the media.

This is a good reason to STOP listening to what the media tells you. They lie.
