Right now most cruises are cancelled until mid May. I don't see any chance they start cruising that soon. I think it is possible that we don't see any cruises the rest of this year. If we do I think it will be very limited. There is talk of no destination cruises since it's gonna be difficult to find any ports open for ships at least early on. The cruise industry seems to be one of the greediest and very shady at times. They probably will figure out a way but I don't know when I would trust doing a cruise.

What do you all think about the future of cruising? Will Carnival make it out alive after this disaster? What kind of regulations will be put in place going forward? I can see immunity passports being a thing.

I have decided to never cruise again

I think the cruise industry is a thing of the past...I'll never get on one...

Did you cruise a lot prior to this? Is your decision all Corona related or are there other reasons?

maybe Russian cruise ships will be able to step up and fill the gap.

I get thinking that but this industry has been through a lot of bad times. Not this bad though obviously. I think die hard cruisers are like die hard Trump supporters. I don't think this will change their mind. I do think older folks are gonna think twice for a while about getting on board.

I'd love to go on a Russian ice breaker up to the north pole.

The cruise thing seems kinda dismal, really. It's like paying top dollar to be a sardine.

The industry will recover as soon as there is a finger prick test for the virus. If getting gut-wrenching diarrhea didn't kill the industry, this won't.

Maybe so...I'm not that crazy...

"Cruises to nowhere" are federally illegal. (Google "Jones Act" for an explanation.) However, I took the Hurricane Sandy cruise on the Carnival Sensation. Because the Nassau port closed on embarkation day, leaving the crew with nowhere to go except Key West, the cruise line got a foreign port waiver to legally stop in a U.S. city. I expect that kind of thing to happen at several coastal cities that do not have "stay at home" orders. There probably have already been cruises to nowhere too.

Not just corona. There were other flu and virus outbreaks on cruises prior to this. I guess corona is the straw that broke the camel’s back. I would go on at least one cruise a year My last cruise was in 2018.

I agree! They'll figure it out. It's just gonna be more of a pain in the ass to get on board.

I will never get an inside room again that's for sure. What a difference in quality of quarantine between those who had balcony's and those who did not.

I went on one cruise up to Alaska... only reason I did was because my grandma was treating us all and she was 80 or so... hated it. I sat around on the deck the whole time reading or watching the British Columbia and Alaska mountains and islands... or I was winning money playing table tennis... I started betting guys in the crew who came to the tables late at night when everybody was going to bed... I made a few hundred ($5 bets per game was the rule). When I got off the boat I said I would never do that again... but the endless food was kinda cool.

Who cares? I wouldnt have gotten on one of those boring germ-factories before this crisis.

The idiots who did so after January shouldnt be surprised.

I have a feeling that there will be some waivers or some legal exceptions made at least in the near term.

In laws have been trying to get me to cruise for years. I’m thinking that’s a thing of the past. I don’t really like to fly either.
Also don’t care for touristy stufff, being honest. I’d rather drive, get a nice hotel, plan around good eats, and walk the city highlights on our own. That’s just me. Food and drink and leisurely pace...no crowds of people cluttering up the experience. I. Not a big traveler/vacationer obviously.

Cruises are known for the occasionally disease bombs.

I suppose it might be safe if we are all plugged into global info on outbreaks, and if there is one, cancel/ debark ASAP.

There were ships disembarking as late as March 15th.

A big problem was that prior to this current shutdown the cancellation policies sucked balls! We will see if they become more flexible. Right now they are in their advertisements.

I love huge ships. I love being on the ocean. I love when the ship first disembarks. I love when it arrives at it's destination. Maybe I'm boring, but I love getting a big drink and going to the observation deck with my binoculars and look for stuff. I totally get people who have never cruised being suspicious. I just think there is something special about it and that's even before getting into ports. Exploring the ship is fun. Eating all the time is fun.

They have to. I also expect ship piers to be handling the wrong ships. Now that Florida is on lockdown except for churches, what is happening in Flort Lauderdale, Miami, Tampa, Jacksonville, Cape (Port) Canaveral, and Key West.

Yep!

The cruise companies knew they were rolling the dice. Carnival is gonna get hit crushed by this.

I never had any want to be on a giant petri dish full of trash touristas going from port to port and pretending they are actual world travelers.

Nope, that is tourism, not travel, not for me, before or after the pandemic.

Well if a test becomes available maybe they could test everyone before letting them on the ship. Of course they would not be able to stop anywhere .

Ive been thinking of going on one just for the experience, but I never liked being stuck on a boat with a bunch of other tourists for days on end- I prefer to be mobile. And after hearing the stories about ships being stranded at sea due to viruses, fires, pirates, and what-not kept me from trying it. Now Im glad I never did.
