If you are hoarding toilet paper, please don't.

Everyone needs it.

Let's all share.

If everyone just bought things like they usually do we wouldn't have such shortages.

There is no reason to fear and panic. That doesn't solve any problems, it just creates them.

Rant over. Thanks.

I'm now home 40 hours more a week than I used to be, so there's increased demand. I do wonder how much can explain that versus hoarding though.

It's basic game theory. You don't have to panic buy as long as nobody panic buys. But when they do, you have to.

And dish soap

And Lysol spray

The way things look in stores around here I figure it will be well into next year before stock of paper goods and cleaning supplies are available again.

I mean, I'd hoard now but with empty shelves guess I missed my opportunity to participate in the tragedy of the commons.

I gave the old couple across the road 8 rolls today. You know why I could? Because I hoarded the hell out of it :2wave:

(I bulk buy paper towels and TP when I can get a good deal so it is more a general habit as opposed to panic buying)

Lysol spray is not to be had even on the internet but I haven't seen dish soap out of stock anywhere as of yet.

Yeah, me too. Fortunately, my boss has the instincts of a weasel with paint stipper on it's teats, so he grabbed a literal truckload way back when there were only a couple of cases of Covid19 in the states. He's been doling it out one roll per employee per day.

He's half crazy, but he does pretty good by us.

You know....the New York Times is $5 a week, and they deliver it to your front door. :peace

I did reasonably well by dumb luck of having accidentally shopped at Costco right before things hit. But still missed out on clorox wipes, hand sanitizer, and paper towels.

There's always Brillo. Never wears out. Reusable.

Toilet paper is a very recent luxury, here's what the Romans (at the time the pinnacle of advanced cultured civilization) used to do.

BINGO!!!

And add in the rest of everyone's families...spouse, kids, etc. They all used to spend a large chunk of their days somewhere outside the house, using TP...heck, even eating food...from somewhere else. Now, all that stuff is being consumed and used in the home. So people are necessarily buying more than they used to.

The product distribution system works well, but this increased demand has hit it hard. We won't run out of anything...we'll just see a reduced amount of all the stuff being available at any particular moment.

I was pleased this past Saturday to find TP, paper towels, and water ALL on the shelves a full three hours after the store opened.

That's a first in a bit, hope it continues!

My shower head is fitted with a hose connected to a spray head. Water works wonders.

It's all about balance. If you don't get enough then you have to go back out and risk infection. If you get too much then you deprive others of essentials.

I think the question is what is an appropriate time frame to stock for? Because I don't think anybody has really agreed on that point. In fact, I'm not sure that discussion has really even taken place at all.

The aisles in the stores in Tucson are completely bare. No dishwasher soap and no regular dish soap. Even laundry soap is getting thin. The grocery stores are out and so are CVS and Walgreen. It's been like that for two weeks now.

I went to the store a couple days ago to get something I usually DON'T keep a good inventory of. I just wanted to get some packs of yeast.

All gone.

At every store I went, none.

Very strange to ME. I'll be fine until they restock, but really ? Everyone bought out the YEAST ?? Bread is ALWAYS fully stocked in stores still, so ...

People do odd things I guess

Amen......Lady Bum has requested that I install a bidet; Its gonna set me back a bit of money, but I wont have to listen to her threaten to kill me in my sleep after I ran the garden hose in through the bathroom window.

*sheesh* :(

Did you know that many trees or bushes have broad, velvety leaves? More luxurious than mere paper. At Eco's TP Landscaping, we can satisfy your TP needs forever. TP security is not a joke. The shower thing? That's not convenient or sanitary. Plan for tomorrow. Plant TP today.

You have a very appropriate name for this thread. Newspapers, pages from an old book, or (gasp) how about a washcloth and soap?

Or..*gasp*...Humor!

My balance is that I am working more than I used to because of all the mandated cleaning.

I found out that there are still hotels open. One of the security people I met said that all the door nobs must be wiped hourly. Even though the hotel is at about 20% occupancy (60% is normal this time of year), the hours available are almost the same. Of course, a some of the staff don't like cleaning and are taking vacation time. I cannot hold that against the company, but some might.
