Grocery Store Update:

I read that some blacks are not going to wear masks. They are already targeted in ways by the police that others are not. Why give the police double reason to stop them for not only being black but for wearing a mask while being black. That's a crying shame that this may be happening.

Thanks, I was wondering how strict they are in light of the shortages.

The Surgeon General has a 40 second you tube video of how you can make one.

I dug up an old bra. Works great.

That's awesome!

I found a sleeping mask. I put it over my face and it's seems to work ok.

I've watched a couple of no-sew videos, and if you can fold a hand towel in thirds (a MUST), this looks pretty easy.

I'm gonna give it a try! Thanks!

It looks easy-peasy, and I say this as someone inept. You will need rubber bands. My best friend sews and is making masks for people in her community, and elastic is difficult to find. I'm also going to try to hunt up the hair-doodad elastics. I have to say, though, that now that I've been thinking about Lovebug's post, maybe the smart trick would be buying a padded bra at Amazon and cutting it in half.

I guess I'll try that too!

Not sure how much of it is easter and how much is the virus, but saw eggs $3.89 a dozen today. Not organic cage free type eggs either. Just plain old eggs that were like $1.09 a dozen a few weeks ago.

Well, your wife works hard laying those, so she should be paid a little extra :2razz:

Not all places here are that outrageous. That they were that outrageous is probably why they had plenty and other places have none.

In time, as goods keep getting bought up and hoarded, prices will begin to become inflated. At least until either production increases or people reduce their panic buying.

Well, I wish that panic-buying didn't include buying chickens. I posted about this several days ago--baby chicks are not to be had because of panic-buying, and I worry for the chicks. My kid hopes to rescue some of them. Saw this last night: Coronavirus concerns: People are panic-buying baby chickens, reports claim | Fox News

Yesterday I completed my first online grocery experience, and it was great. I've decided to regard this as like Vegas. You roll the dice, and who knows what you'll "win"?! I had only four substitutions, and each was an "upgrade." And that's how I gambled with the Roi-Tel tomatoes and green chiles. I ordered the cheaper Walmart brand, which they were out of, and came home with Roi-Tel for the house brand price. Etc.

I was able to get a couple of heads of cabbage, some onions and some cauliflower yesterday as well as apples. Canned goods, paper goods and cleaning supplies are totally non-existent in Tucson.

Roughage rocks!

Why buy chicks? If you really want them for food then buy ones old enough to lay.

Mom did the chicken thing a few years back and they are a LOT of work. She was rather proud of herself for getting $5/dz for her production but I'm not sure that $50/dz would have been enough to cover her costs.

I had to go to 4 stores yesterday to gather enough toilet paper and paper towels for the next few weeks. I don't want to be a hoarder, but I am also very frustrated in not finding what I need in that regard. I also stocked up on meat for at least three weeks as well (I had to break out my old chest freezer even).

Beyond that, I will just do grocery delivery for whatever gaps may come up in the pantry. Luckily, the stuff I cook lasts me two or three days so I am not using food up very quickly.

Oh, yes, a lot of work. My kid, the chicken farmer, says "teenagers" are the right age to begin raising them if you're a noob.

Do you know what a mess it is to raise chickens? Yuck!

You need a farm. People are goofy.

Oh, I think they're dreamers. Unfortunately, their dreams are at the chicks' expense.

Maybe. Pretty much every store in my area is rationing the in demand items. Someone told me eggs always go up the week of easter though so IDK.

In ordinary times, my experience is that eggs are always on sale this week. Besides dyeing Easter eggs, in a time not so long ago, I would have been boiling 2 dozen at least to make deviled eggs.
