Trump is doing it as a gambit to fall back on when this is over, the damage is done, and instead of accepting blame for his negligence in ignoring the danger for two months he'll say over and over and over again that if only he had been listened to lives would have been saved by this wonder malaria drug.

Doctors are already prescribing it in large numbers and having good results. There have been many states asking for the drug(s) and the reason is the medical folks are wanting it. One doctor in NY said he hasn't had to put any of his patients on a ventilator because he is prescribing it to his patients with the virus do not get to the point they need a ventilator. I am all for the intense tests/studies on a new drug. But if it is a drug already being used by many people for different things and others in Europe and elsewhere have had good results with it then it would be criminal not to offer it. Right now in New Orleans they are asking for more refrigerated trucks because the people are dying in great numbers. Doctors are saying with this virus if you reach the point you have to be put on a ventilator your chances are slim you will survive. Even the gov of NY Cuomo who first banned it said today they have seen promising results from the drug and has requested more from the government. That says a lot.

So those who trash Trump for promoting it and it turns out there's a lot of people who survive because of it, then who gives a rats ass about the assholes.
 
Here's even Cuomo in his press conference today on hydroxychloroquine prescribed with a Zpak with promising results and requesting more of the drugs from the Feds.

The "news" media reporting has been reprehensible here! The truth is that, YES, there have been doctors who've had GREAT success using it in combination with antibiotics, so to say that "there's no evidence that it works" is just the typical, worthless MSM talking points. They HATE Trump, so they hate everything he touches or talks about! At this point they'd obviously prefer bad Coronavirus news to good CV news, because good news about a potentially effective medicine might help his approval ratings, and they CAN'T have that!!

Also, it's being framed dishonestly. Trump isn't talking about handing out the drug to anyone who tests positive. He's talking about ALLOWING people who are on their death beds, the OPTION of taking the medicine!

I promise you that if ANY of you progressives were lying in YOUR death bed, and someone offered you a CDC approved medicine that HAS shown promise when used in conjunction with antibiotics, you would be willing to try it! Especially when a miserable death is the other option!

Why do people still trust the media??

Practicing physicians on the front lines disagree. The FDA granted emergency to use it.

When Fauci says "no proof" I suspect he's referring to a lack of full blown medical trial involving thousands of patients, documentation collected and submitted to FDA.
Be honest with us; are you more concerned about the effectiveness of the drug or the fact Trump may get some credit for pushing it. We al KNOW the answer, just wondering if you'll be honest enough to say it.

Here we have a major epidemic and instead of these jerks hoping that Trump is right, irregardless of their hate for him, they WANT him to be wrong, which would mean thousands will die in agony instead of being cured by a drug he said showed promise.
