Fears raised for health workers in worst-effected Spain and Italy

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said on Saturday that China is facilitating the shipment of 1,000 ventilators to his state, as he continues to shop for more of the life-saving devices ahead of a growing number of coronavirus patients who will need them.

The number of people infected in the US has exceeded a quarter-million, with the death toll climbing past 7,000; more than 3,500 of those deaths are in New York state. Cuomo said the ventilators from China were expected to arrive Saturday.

So now we're receiving critical aid from our supposed enemy: China. At least these units will be going to New York instead of gathering dust in a FEMA wearhouse.

White House Airlifts Medical Supplies From China in Coronavirus Fight - The New York Times

Six days ago....
A commercial aircraft carrying 80 tons of gloves, masks, gowns and other medical supplies from Shanghai touched down in New York on Sunday, the first of 22 scheduled flights that White House officials say will funnel much-needed goods to the United States by early April as it battles the world’s largest coronavirus outbreak.

The plane delivered 130,000 N95 masks, 1.8 million face masks and gowns, 10 million gloves and thousands of thermometers for distribution to New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, said Lizzie Litzow, a spokeswoman for the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Ms. Litzow said that flights would be arriving in Chicago on Monday and in Ohio on Tuesday, and that supplies would be sent from there to other states using private-sector distribution networks.

While the goods that arrived in New York on Sunday will be welcomed by hospitals and health care workers — some of whom have resorted to rationing protective gear or using homemade supplies — they represent just a tiny portion of what American hospitals need. The Department of Health and Human Services has estimated that the United States will require 3.5 billion masks if the pandemic lasts a year.

I doubt any of them work.

Good. They started it.

It started spontaneously in a so-called wet market in Wuhan. No one deliberately started it.

Oh, let me have some fun. By "started it", it is the pandemic they started. I didn't imply they cooked the virus in a lab.

Let's hope they are sending the good ones and not the ones that other countries sent back to them because they were junk that didn't work.

Thank you China, the ventilators are much appreciated.

Enemy?????

China has been our enemy since they invaded Korea during the Korean War. Perhaps even before that, in WW2.

Oregon sent 140 ventilators to New York, which is nice.
