Trump administration cut pandemic early warning program in September

Suck it up. If you can handle pointed questions about who was responsible for the deaths of four Americans in a war zone then you can handle pointed questions about who’s responsible for the deaths of over a thousand Americans a day. If you can’t handle it then log off.

I can handle it all day long.

You get caught in factual lies all the time and then resort to playing the coy game.

Are you really that superficial? You keep trying to remind everyone how smart you are in your own insecure way, but most of us on Debate politics see right through it..

I can handle it all day long.

Evidently not, since asking who might be responsible for the deaths of a thousand Americans a day made you cry.

You're way behind. The newest numbers at 2:00 PST... 301,902 cases, 8,175 deaths.

It’s not my fault. I take no responsibility. Frankly, I give myself a ten out of ten.

Hey, have you found Obama's secret Kenyan birth certificate yet? I hear we won't believe what Trump's "top people" are finding on it! Oh boy, can't wait!:lamo

I didn't cry at all.

That is you making assumptions again.

You specialize in making assumptions and accusations and then running from then questions that were asked.

I didn't vote for Trump.

Are you going to keep flinging your usual mindless BS , hoping it sticks to something?

For the Thread:

From PREDICT to prevention, one pandemic later

Rescuing research on the emergence of zoonotic viruses is a priority—but our field, as currently positioned, is still not ready to stop current or future pandemics. In no case is this clearer than the priority placed over the past decade on discovering novel viruses in wild mammals and birds—a task that has been described as “the beginning of the end of the pandemic era”4 and sometimes awarded a singular status as the solution to viral emergence. History tells us viral discovery is not enough to prevent pandemics: influenza was first isolated in 1933, Zika in 1947, chikungunya in 1952, and amid the emergence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus in 2003 and Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus in 2012, nearly two decades of wildlife sampling has turned up hundreds of new coronavirus species.5 Despite these scientific achievements, the present pandemic of SARS-CoV-2 has still grown over an order of magnitude beyond its 2003 counterpart

I highly recommend the link.

I didn't cry at all.

Clearly you did. Republicans screamed for four years straight about four Americans who died in a war zone, but the moment I suggest that maybe we should investigate who dropped the ball resulting in a thousand dead Americans a day, you scream WHATTABOUTISM!!!

Trump administration cut pandemic early warning program in September | World news | The Guardian

Predict project wound down three months before outbreak

Project had identified 160 potentially dangerous coronaviruses

The Trump administration decided to end a $200m early warning program designed to alert it to potential pandemics just three months before it is believed Covid-19 began infecting people in China.

US underprepared for coronavirus due to Trump cuts, say health experts

The project, called Predict, had been run by the US Agency for International Development since 2009. It had identified more than 160 different coronaviruses that had the potential to develop into pandemics, including a virus that is considered the closest known relative to Covid-19.

A decision to wind down the program was made, however, in September, just three months before the first reports of people becoming infected with Covid-19 in Wuhan, China. The end of the program saw the departure of dozens of scientists and analysts working to identify potential pandemics in countries around the world, including China.

In his murder trial, this move is equivalent to him loading his revolver.

The article concedes that it doesn't know if the White House directed its ending or whether the program would have done anything.

The latter is important because it doesn't seem that the problem was because Chinese scientists and physicians were not sufficiently trained to identify a problem.
The evidence seems to indicate recognized a problem pretty quickly.
The problem was that Chinese government muzzled the reports, and lied to the world about what they knew.

Well that's the argument that was presented over the past few years,
What was the statement made "suck it up"

Republicans were very intent on placing blame for the deaths of four Americans in a war zone. You can handle pointed questions about who's to blame for the deaths of a thousand Americans per day, so settle down.

The answer is given:
China.

Uh, Lucky - you omitted a small detail on that mask machine - it didn't exist. And your link says
manufacturer O&M Halyard called for the creation of a “one-of-a-kind, high-speed machine” that could hopefully produce at least 1.5 million N95 masks per day, In other words all that existed was a few blueprints.

How does your "hopefully produce" match up with "Make America Great Again".

Was that also simply a possibility? Trump has failed at MAGA but he did try. Why wouldn't he then consider doing something more TANGIBLE such as a mass making machine that is based on science and not on hype? Could it be that he did not think building the machine would gain him any votes but yelling MAGA from every building would? Could that be a possibility, a probability, or a certainty. I vote for the latter.

So, then just throw money at a company to produce a machine that can "hopefully" produce a million and a half masks a day; wouldn't it have been better if Obama had authorized replenishing the stockpile in 2009?

To be fair, he did find the time to fire the ICIG because he blamed him for his impeachment. It's good to know where his priorities are.

Also, nobody in the White House knows where the emergency medical supplies are or where they're going. It's a total cluster****.

He did put his son in law in charge of the covid virus supplies, who immediately said 'Oh, those supplies are the federal government's, and can't be used by the states. We must not forget that.

What impresses even more is that it comes from such a trustworthy source.

Every post by trix could be replaced by a picture of trump giving the thumbs up sign.

You are so pathetic is it incredible. You cannot answer the question/comment so you deflect to Obama.

This is all about Trump's hype about MAGA and his lack of hype about a life saving machine being produced that could have saved lives, but since you do not want to face the facts, you deflect to Obama which has absolutely nothing to do with what Trump is doing. Obama has nothing to do with this.

You finally hit the bullseye, bullseye!

/QUOTE] This doesn't even make sense, Lucky. And all you can do is slobber "MAGA" and "trump bad". You should do a little research, BTW. After the Swine Flu epidemic of 2009, Obama dilly-dallied in refilling the Stockpile even though he was prodded several times to do so. And blaming Trump for not wasting money on a "hopeful" machine?
