The 1,000-Bed Comfort Was Supposed to Aid New York. It Has 20 Patients.

Thank you. :applaud

Trump is not "in charge" of what's happening in either NYC or NY State.

There is a city Mayor named De Blasio, and a state Governor named Cuomo.

As Trump has said, the Federal government is providing support to the State and Local governments. But he is (currently) letting them do their thing.

Seems like many people want Trump and the Feds to take over completely. Funny when many of those same people can't give him credit for anything, but are fully willing to lay all the blame on him.

Even funnier that they've claimed all along he want's to be a dictator, meanwhile he is actively trying to avoid using dictatorial powers.

Surely you are aware that these ships are under the command of the Navy? do you know who has ultimate authority over the Navy?

I'd also like the man (and I use the term reluctantly) to answer questions put to him with honesty rather than reprimanding the questioner for asking "nasty" questions, is that something you would do if you were in charge?

Someone, anyone, please tell me what constitutes a "nasty" question? and why should one not ask such questions?

So why is the mayor failing to put people on the ship?

I have no idea of how they are organized between the Navy & the city. I believe it is the Navy's call as it is their ship.

I'd venture to say there are several major concerns (I feel "gripe" is too dismissive a term myself)

1. Patients are being mistakenly boarded.
2. The vessel arrived on Monday and after 4 or even 5 days has only 20 patients are on board.
3. Another vessel docked in L.A. has only 15 paitents but this has been docked only a day or so.
4. There is mounting bureaucracy and confusion over what types of patients exactly are to be brought to these ships.
5. The intention was to never treat Covid-19 patients but if the virus did get onboard (it will) then another minor catastrophe would befall the city.
6. The Confort was an expensive waste of time and money during an earlier challenge Hurrican Maria in 2017, again just a handful of patients were assisted.
7. And last but by no means least, if the press raise questions about this with trump during Q/A sessions they are invariably reprimanded by him for asking "nasty" questions.

None of this is surprising when we have an ill equipped, spoiled individual who has never experienced physical hardship or poverty, never actually had to attend a job interview, as the primary source of guidance and wisdom.

We are, quite simply f****d.

Ridiculous.

Are you on scene? Are you involved in the process? How do you know what is causing the problems?

As I pointed out the ship has 1,000 beds, and some medical support systems.

There are 8.5 MILLION residents of NYC.

Naysayer...what is your solution?

Please list the "woulda, coulda, shoulda" solutions that would have fit this particular disaster. You know, all that 20/20 Hindsight pretending to be foresight people keep demanding for every single possible situation regardless of how unlikely.

All I hear is bitching. As stated, armchair quarterbacking from people who have no special insights, and depend on the rabble-rousing MSM to keep them informed.

"We are quite simply f****d" eh?

Thanks for the input. :coffeepap:

USNS Comfort Hospital Ship Was Supposed to Aid New York. It Has 3 Patients. - The New York Times

“It’s a joke,” said a top hospital executive, whose facilities are packed with coronavirus patients.

Such were the expectations for the Navy hospital ship U.S.N.S. Comfort that when it chugged into New York Harbor this week, throngs of people, momentarily forgetting the strictures of social distancing, crammed together along Manhattan’s west side to catch a glimpse.

On Thursday, though, the huge white vessel, which officials had promised would bring succor to a city on the brink, sat mostly empty, infuriating executives at local hospitals. The ship’s 1,000 beds are largely unused, its 1,200-member crew mostly idle.

This is a Navy ship. I blame the Commander-in-Chief - Trump - for the lack of an adequate resonse here. 'I'm not responsible' - Donald Trump.

They were pounding the table for more help, and now an interloper arrives and they don’t know what to do. Typical dog catches car.

I think you'll find that every one of the points I listed are factually correct.

As I pointed out the ship has 1,000 beds, and some medical support systems.

Yes, I know.

There are 8.5 MILLION residents of NYC.

Yes, I know.

Naysayer...what is your solution?

Do you mean what would I suggest given that Trump remains in charge or what would I do were I President?

Please list the "woulda, coulda, shoulda" solutions that would have fit this particular disaster. You know, all that foresight people keep demanding for every single possible situation regardless of hos unlikely.

There is already a very lengthy list of alternatives recommended by others far more expert than trump. Sadly trump is not known for placing trust in sound counsel.

All I hear is bitching. As stated, armchair quarterbacking from people who have no special insights, and depend on the rabble-rousing MSM to keep them informed.

Are you more qualified than I to discuss this subject? am I not free to express dissatisfaction with someone whom I feel is a grave dissapointment?

The republican party were given an opportunity to remove trump from office, a man clearly unfit to rule could have been removed and replaced by someone almost certainly better equipped mentaly.

But no, the party just had to retain him, they shamefully supported this foul mouthed liar, they were too afraid to do the right thing, they acted with cowardice.

I wonder now how many of these cowards are now sitting at home regretting that decision as the United States sits powerless and looking more and more bereft of national strength as each day passes.

If this man remains in control and continues to act as he has been, then the United States is in peril, this will all but destroy this nation, we are powerless to prevent it.

If God almighty wanted to bring the United States to its knees, then trump is precisely the means God would use to orchestrate this, rather than the blessing so many claim him to be, he is a curse.

The ship exists to provide a safe zone for non infected patients. What kind of a ****ing moron thinks it would be a good idea to contaminate that as an option to provide service?

The hospitals have their hands full of patients. The hospitals need to do a better job of utilizing it.

A thousand bed capacity. It's been there at least a week. And only 20 patients on board? This is a military facility. Where is the Commander-in-Chief's direction?

It seems to me the problem lies with the State of New York and the hospitals in not screening patients in a timely manner and transferring them to the ship. What you said about the ship was to relieve non COVID 19 patients from the local hospital seems pretty clear directions. I heard the same thing. So what procedures did NY put in place?

The Hospitals have very few non-Covid-19 patients because they are avoiding even going to hospital.

Therefore the premise upon which the deployment of the vessel was based seems to be unsound.

Do you really think that ship will remain uncontaminated? do you actually think that will happen?

Question did the Governor of NY discuss deployment of the ship and what the ship could be used for?
I agree, it is highly doubtful the ship will remain uncontaminated.

Bottom line. The State and the Feds were not prepared for the event.

Of course you blame him. :lamo: How about blaming Comrades DeBlasio and Cuomo. They could direct hospitals and doctors to use the Comfort. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. Cuomo and DeBlasio bitched about needing more beds and now that the Commander in Chief has provided more beds its up to Cuomo and DeBlasio to make sure the additional beds are used.

If you had watched a single briefing you would know what the ship is there for. Its been explained ad nauseum on national TV for days.

They're looking for something to bitch about.

This is the same caliber of Federal inaction that caused 2,000 deaths in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina under Shrub. 'Heck of a job, Brownie.'

You still believe that bull****? :lamo

They are test everyone BEFORE they are allowed on board the ship.

Hopefully that would be enough, but I still think the ship could become infected.

The difference with what is going on now is that the whole world is flooded, not just one city.

Personally, I am shocked - shocked - to hear that government provided healthcare might be ineffective and inefficient.

This isn’t government provided health care. This is emergency health care, and the Trump administration, not the US government, is to blame for its inefficiencies.

So you’re saying the US military is bad at its job, eh?

People have, strokes, heart attacks, seizures, severe asthma attacks, break hips, appendicitis attacks etc. etc. every day and NY is a HUGE city. Some things you just can't avoid going to the hospital for. They move patient to a hospital triage area test them for COVID 19 an if negative they transfer them to the Comfort. So yes I think the ship will stay COVID 19 negative.

So you’re saying the US military is bad at its job, eh?
The Military's job really isn't health care. The Comfort has bunk beds for patients. Doyou want our hospitals to use bunk beds?

The problem likely is with elective patients not being admitted its cleared up space for non elective AND COVID19 patients and non elective and non COVID 19 patients can still be admitted to NY hospitals at this point and the Comfort isn't really needed yet.. But if things keep growing eventually the Comfort will be needed at some point.

That's the purpose of nearly every thread on this forum.
