Do we feel safe having a president who throws tantrums at press conferences & insults reporters who ask questions that he is not comfortable with?

I feel safer knowing this president doesn't take crap from people like Jim Acosta and his ilk.

Saavy people know exactly why Acosta and ilk continue to argue with the president at his pressers.
They're partisan anti-Trumps.

So why hold a press briefing? Maybe he should refuse questions.

I love how everyone is bashing Trump for mishandling this crisis, but we still have a lot fewer cases per-capita than most major countries in Europe.

And by the way, Trump is not the only person who can do anything about this. For instance, why hasn't Cuomo closed the bridges and tunnels out of Manhattan to regular traffic?

Or maybe he should just refuse stupid, loaded questions with no real answer, that aren't actually intended to get at relevant facts?

The bridges & tunnels are the way food, drugs & medical gear get into NYC.

Simple answer no!!!

He is an embarrassment that can not handle simple questions...

Don't understand why you would ask the first question in light of the fact his pressers are informative.
No, he shouldn't refuse their questions ever unless they are physically combative.
If he takes their questions he's bad, if he doesn't take their questions, he is accused by the anti-Trumps that he attempting to stomp the press's rights. He can't win with the haters.

Because he can't have his YAY ME rallies any more, so he has to get his face out somewhere...

The person giving the briefing doesn't get to make that determination

He wasn't offered any 'crap'. He was given a softball question where he could have reassured the nation and he melted down like a sniveling little candy-assed bitch.

The briefings are televised. The press is there to ask questions. Transparency means answering those questions regardless of Trump's opinion of their motives. You know. Like a big boy.

It's an opportunity to address the public directly without the media filter. Given the nature of some of the questions posed by certain media members, it's pretty clear what they'd prefer to report. Why do you think some networks have suggested dropping coverage?

I'm talking about the q and a period

My post applues to that as well. The media are known by the questions they ask, and people can determine their intent. It's right out front.

Actually, some of the free press ask questions many of us want answered. Not all of us think it is treason in a democracy for the media to ask
POTUS tough questions. Unfortunately, Trump has VERY thin skin. He can't deal with challenging questions that appear to hint at his mistakes, or his actions.

Tell me if my question is "partisan anti-Trump":

Why did Trump resist using his presidential powers to ramp up a federal response to the coronavirus until the end of March?
Following the February 5th briefing on the Covid-19 outbreak in China, many US Senators urged Trump to immediately increase federal procurement of medical equipment
and supplies and centralize our response through FEMA or other federal agency. Trump did not act until last week. This delay will result in increased deaths.

Yep, ok, perfect, close them to everything but semi's and delivery trucks,

Now what?

Re: How Trump has reacted to journalists questioning his handling of the coronavirus crisis – vide

I believe anything Wallace or Gromit say!
Both are far more honest than Mr. POTUS.
They are also more empathetic toward human beings. And less likely to conspire with known enemy leaders, and in addition they both have a far better sense of humor.
I would vote for either of them were they on the ballot!

Sure. Why get annoyed that some in the press don't like everything you say or do.
Instead we could become like Russia, China, Saudi Arabia, North Korea, Turkey, Philippines, Hungary, Myanmar, Venezuela...
all the cool nations where the ruling party runs the media...and only nice questions are allowed.

Is that what you mean by "Conservative Values"?

You have such a way with words! LOL
Trump so often reminds me of the 5th grader who protests loudly when he's caught red-handed cheating.

I don't believe I mentioned conservative values. Maybe you could highlight it for me.

I also didn't suggest that the media be prevented from asking questions. I did say that media members may be knoiwn by the nature of the questions they ask. Are you suggesting that the viewing public ignore the clear implications of some questions? Understand, dictators don't generally use public press concerences. They make public statements and don't suffer any questions at all. It's a shame you don't seem to appreciate the difference.

Except,

That's what you want to happen when it comes to companies and the DPA right? In fact, you wanted it done much much sooner?

Please stop with the constant crying that everyone who disagrees with Trump is a hatter that treats him unfairly.
NOTHING that Trump was asked by the press warranted his anger and childish attack on journalists whose job is to report what our president is thinking and doing.
Every president is questioned--and attacked. Trump led the birthers who attacked Obama for possibly not being a real American.
Did that bother you? Did you think it was unfair that the Obama kids saw their father depicted as a monkey by his haters?

Trump thinks of himself as the most brilliant human being on the planet. He is dismissive of anyone who suggests otherwise.
And the more I attempt to dialogue with folks who support Mr. Trump the more I suspect that his followers feel so attached to his personality that
no one can question Trump about anything without making his supporters feel personally attacked.

So...you make the leap from freedom of the press and the right of the citizens to understand what our Executive Branch is thinking
to the rights of corporations to be immune from serving the national good in times of war or crisis?

Since the Constitution makes clear that our republic belongs to and serves the citizens of this nation, you are stretching corporate "rights" beyond the pale.
But protecting corporations over people is a deeply seated conservative value, so I guess you are at least being consistent.
