Grocery stocking

I am buying lots of shrimp and stuffed claims there is no shortage of these items...

No toilet paper for 36 months  I guess I could use a broccoli instead but it is going to be cold. :-(

I'm hoping that Fox News comes out with a print edition for that purpose :)

The supply chain for our grocery stores is long and complicated. With all the stay at home.lockdowns I am just.curious how long they can keep the shelves stocked?

Any experts.out there?

In my area, there were grocery stores that before the crisis were open for 24 hours. Now they close during the night so their employees can restock the shelves.

I no longer go there. I don't need the quantities for my household that some families can benefit from by shopping costco

We have a nice little place here that does just doughnuts, though I haven't checked to see if they're still up & running ( Guess that tells you how often I enjoy a doughnut, love 'em, but they're just not good for you ).

Amy's Donuts - Home

Once in a while . . . now I'm going to have to go see, maybe get one LOL

What an odd distribution of locations.

3 weeks ago, during the first week of panic buying the store shelves were bare everywhere I went. With the exception of hand sanitizer, bleach, and Lysol wipes not the case any longer.

That has happened in Houston also, Even the 24 hour Walmart is closing at night to restock.

I just wanted to buy a few dang rolls to make something at home with. Had to buy a whole loaf that ... well, it'll get used, I don't like to waste, but I DO like to buy only what I need for whatever particular item I'm planning on.

Inconvenient LOL I'll survive.

Bread crumbs for the next meal.

That is what we are seeing as well, but my Wife got some hand sanitizer, and wipes this morning.

Wow! That's like striking gold these days! My brother bought the raw materials yesterday to make a huge home batch of it and he's going to hand it out to friends and family members.

Because people are still panic buying/overbuying what comes in.

In Virginia, we are seeing the rush of panic all over again after Governor Northam yesterday announced his stay-at-home order UNTIL JUNE 10TH! Shopping was getting better, but the lines at Costco immediately went around 2 sides of the building.

That is what I thought, She is sending a can to each of our kids houses, who do not have the time(or the age) to hit the senior hours for shopping.

I heard about that cutting the paper towel roll in half.
I wonder if the 50:50 mix of bleach and water would be enough, it kills plenty of other nasty stuff?

People are panic buying the ingredients, namely isopropyl alcohol, to make homemade hand sanitizer, too. How much did your brother buy?

No probs at my store this morning, they had TP, lots of produce and canned goods, etc.

The other day, I was in a rush and hit the store at a bad time, got some staples, and 2 twelve packs of beer. I used the self checkout, and got home to discover I forgot to take the beer! I raced back, found the guy overseeing the self checkout and said "I'm the idiot who forgot the beer" he said he knew I'd be back, and even had it waiting for me in a cart. Good customer service.

I could use more hand sanitizer, but I already had a nice big bottle of isopropyl alcohol and some aloe gel, and my vacant neighbor's front yard has a ton of aloe growing in it, so if need be, I can make more.

I found this at:

Department of Health - The Use of Bleach

See the bolded, below:

The Use of Bleach

Bleach is a strong and effective disinfectant. Its active ingredient, sodium hypochlorite, denatures protein in micro-organisms and is therefore effective in killing bacteria, fungus and viruses. Household bleach works quickly and is widely available at a low cost. Diluted household bleach is thus recommended for the disinfection of facilities.

As bleach irritates mucous membranes, the skin and the airway, decomposes under heat or light and reacts readily with other chemicals, caution should be exercised in the use of it. Improper use of bleach may reduce its effectiveness in disinfection and also lead to accidents which can be harmful to health. Overuse of bleach or using a bleach solution that is too concentrated results in the production of toxic substances that pollute the environment and disturb ecological balance.
Tools and Equipment

Before cleaning, get all necessary tools and equipment ready. Cleaning tools, cleansers/disinfectants, measuring tools and protective gear will be needed.

Cleaning tools:
Brush, mop, towel, spray can and bucket.

Cleansers/disinfectants:
Bleach and water.

Measuring tools:
Tablespoon and measuring cup.

Protective gear:
Mask, rubber gloves, plastic apron and goggles (recommended).

Procedures of Preparing/Using Diluted Bleach

Keep windows open when diluting or using bleach to ensure good ventilation.
Put on protective gear when diluting or using bleach as it irritates mucous membranes, the skin and the airway.
Cold water should be used for dilution as hot water decomposes the active ingredient of bleach and renders it ineffective.
Bleach containing 5.25% sodium hypochlorite should be diluted as follows (demonstration short):
1:99 diluted household bleach (mixing 10ml of bleach with 1litre of water) can be used for general household cleaning.
1:49 diluted household bleach (mixing 10ml of bleach with 0.5litre of water) is used to disinfect surfaces or articles contaminated with vomitus, excreta, secretions or blood.
Make adjustments to the amount of bleach added if its concentration of sodium hypochlorite is above or below 5.25%.
Calculation: Multiplier of the amount of bleach added = 5.25 concentration of sodium hypochlorite in bleach
For example, when diluting a bleach containing only 5% sodium hypochlorite, the multiplier is 5.25 5=1.05. That means 10 x 1.05 =10.5ml of bleach should be used when preparing a bleach solution.
For accurate measurement of the amount of bleach added, a tablespoon or measuring cup can be used.
Rinse disinfected articles with water and wipe dry.
Cleaning tools should be soaked in diluted bleach for 30 minutes and then rinsed thoroughly before reuse.
Finally, wash hands with liquid soap, then dry hands with a clean towel or disposable towel.

He already had the alcohol. He bought aloe vera scented with lavender oil and vitamin E.

What an odd distribution of locations.

It is.

But they do make VERY good donuts and I'm lucky enough to have one by me, so ... once in awhile I'll get one.

That's damned sure not happening here.

I keep a pretty good supply of everything so I'm not hurting in the least but I haven't seen TP or cleaning supplies in a grocery store for over three weeks. When I stopped by yesterday there wasn't even dish detergent...like NONE. Eggs and butter are usually available as is milk to some extent but canned food, cleaning supplies and paper goods are ENTIRELY sold out and have been for at least two weeks.

We have been pretty fortunate. The first week was terrible, no toilet paper or anything else and when we could find toilet paper it was charmin mega rolls that clog your toilets.. But our stores have opened up to seniors the first hour only 7 to 8:00 A.M. to get what they need after the shelves have been stocked through the night. They have put limits on paper products and other items to insure there's enough for others. The stores are getting truckloads in almost daily and these kids stocking the shelves are working their arses off.

The one thing there is a real shortage of is hand sanitizer.

I bought a new mop and a huge bottle of Lysol cleaner. I can use it watered down in a spray bottle to clean surfaces, clean bathrooms and floors. I was all set to do my Spring cleaning. But when governor Dewine said we will be home for the month of April too, I had a moment. The last two weeks of isolation have been hard and now I am told there will be 4 more weeks of it. So what the heck is the hurry to get Spring cleaning done? I now have Purell wipes when I first go into the store and use one after going down every other aisle. We make out the list to last us for at least 2 weeks. Hubby will take Dairy while I tackle the canned goods aisle. Between the two of us sticking to the list we can get in and out in record time.

People are going for canned goods because they don't spoil. They are eating a lot of beans, rice, and soups. I made chili and tortilla soup this week. I have had my fill of beans. I crave fresh produce. I am also getting tired of having to cook every damn meal. We have gotten take out a couple of times but it just isn't the same. I have 4 very ripe bananas and tomorrow will make a loaf of banana nut bread. Waste not want not.

I noticed that there was plenty of jarred gefilte fish on the shelves. No supply problems there.

It would be comforting if our President actually addressed what they are doing to keep our food stocks coming throughout this crisis. He should have asked Mr. Pillow today to comment on his supply chain. Look at food like you would look at a river. If you take every fish you catch, every day and everyone else does the same thing, pretty soon there are no fish or you better hope they swim over from another place with no fisherman. Our stable genius, his most highest excellency, the mighty brainiac President Trump seems to think everything is under control and none of us is counting on food magically appearing every day. Now if you are a betting man, would you bet on this stupendously gifted man to take care of this behind the scenes?

Costco has stated they won't be taking back the truckloads of TP some people hoarded. It is my sincere hope they hold to that.

Oh they will hold the line, no doubts on that. I was thinking I would go down there and purchase the returns for a penny on the dollar.
