(CNN)Remember the Louisiana pastor who defied the governor's order not to hold gatherings larger than 50 people?

He held services again on Sunday, and he plans to do so yet again on Tuesday night.

On Sunday, Pastor Tony Spell said, his Life Tabernacle Church in Baton Rouge drew about 1,000 people to its services, in part by busing people in from across five parishes.

On Tuesday evening, the pastor plans to hold services again, despite the governor's stay-at-home orders, a petition seeking his arrest and a flood of criticism from fellow Christians.

"If they close every door in this city, then I will close my doors," Spell told CNN on Tuesday. "But you can't say the retailers are essential but the church is not. That is a persecution of the faith."

Spell has told CNN he believes the pandemic is "politically motivated."

The pastors that are continuing to hold large gatherings, are absolute pieces of garbage. They are condemning more people to die, and helping it spread even more than it already is. On the other hand, there's still too many people out there that aren't taking social distancing seriously, and they need to be doing so. Too many idiots out there still want to have large parties and whatnot.

He's an idiot. It's obvious he's the one who is politicizing a killer virus because he feels so persecuted by having to follow the same rules everyone has to follow for non-essential services.
He could go online with his services but that would be too easy...

Has anyone considered our capacity on Darwin Awards. We need a stockpile.

Where I live, the parents all had a play date for their kids last night at the local playground. It was supposed to be shut down but all the young parents ignored the order. The local traffic is also increasing each day. It seems the lockdown may end with a whimper rather than a bang.

There are just too many ding dongs running around.

He can do a YouTube video that everyone can watch from home.

His followers aren't exactly the brightest bulbs either. They don't have to show up.

"That is a persecution of the faith."

These false representatives of God are always willing to throw themselves on the cross. And everybody else. Passing-out the purple Kool-Aid in virus form.

just selfish and political.

what are the chances that not one person in his congregation dies from the virus? 50/50?

I mean, if it isolated only in their group, then sure. But the problem is that if they get a bunch of their folk sick, they're running around getting other people sick too. This is quite similar to the anti-vaxxers.

He actually has a point - why is a mattress store allowed to remain open, but a church and barber shop ordered to close? He has not ordered any of his "flock" to violate "social distancing" - they are quite free not to go out and attend his church just as they are free not go out to shop for a new mattress.

Paul saw it differently...it is putting God to the test....which brings destruction...

"Neither let us put Jehovah to the test, as some of them put him to the test, only to perish by the serpents." 1 Corinthians 10:9

Sick people gotta lay somewhere. Seriously, I expect it's because adjustable mattresses are helpful in avoiding bed-induced problems and complications.

I believe he is correct. Until ALL are shut down then quite frankly he has the right to claim he is essential. They are still keeping roofing and construction open along with the people who make the granite counter tops. How the **** is a granite counter top essential?? I bring this up because I have been turning down loads of that sort of stuff. A lot of factories are still open. So how come everyone is on his ass? I dont see much reduction in traffic, people are still out, in California. If there is a lock down not too many people are following it. How many people are concurrently in your local grocery store or Walmart right now.

That sounds like a "if he jumps off a cliff" scenario...the pastor should put the safety of his flock 1st and foremost, regardless of what others do or do not do...

Fines, fines, fines.

That distinction exists by virtue of what law?

Everyone has the right to claim they are essential. One way to judge these things is to quantify how many professionals in a given sector or job consider themselves essential according to pandemic response guidelines. In this case, the person is in the .0001%.

having the right and just being a dumb ass are two different things. are their no door knobs, bathrooms, microphones, support staff?

hell, liquor stores are open too. does anyone really need liquor.

I'm just saying: When something makes no sense, 99% of the time it's because we lack information and not because the world has gone mad.

Some beds are medical.

Even physicians are working from home & meeting with their patients via telephone.

I don't put any value in religion & what we're seeing is it's undergoing accelerated self-destruction. If you won't listen to reason, you deserve whatever fate befalls you.

He has a very legitimate point. I supply logistics, it all hasn't been essential supplies until I put my foot down and started charging treble charges based on commodity and whether it was certified. Granite counter tops are NOT essential. Neither is roofing or wood or other construction materials unless they are going to a certified project related to the crisis at hand.

Have you read the guidelines? I have. Part of my job to ship stuff. How is a majority of construction essential? Yet it is, according to the feds. I just rejected a load of granite ****ing countertops. How the **** are those even remotely essential. They are using the construction exemption though. Their people are working. They are shipping product. We let people into the Walmart's and we haven't limited how many are in there at the same time. Why not? Guy has a very valid point.

There are other ways to conduct meetings, such as Zoom...my congregation has missed one meeting since this mess started, only one, while the brothers were trying to get Zoom set up...
