We used to be free, now we aren't. It's for a good reason, of course, to save lives. But our freedom is GONE, and we don't know when, or if, we get it back.

I never imagined this, never knew it could happen. Nothing like it happened in any of our lifetimes, in the USA. We took freedom for granted -- as long as we didn't commit a crime, the government couldn't prevent us doing what we want.

Now freedom is gone. Will we ever get it back? Or will there always be some excuse, from now on, for restricting what we can do, for our own safety?

Just wondering. I mean, I don't hear anyone complaining at all, because everyone understands it's for the good of society, and it's of critical importance.

But our freedom is GONE.

You don't know what you've got til it's gone...so true...

When you are on an airplane and you are required to NOT open the exit doors in middle of the flight, do you also complain about your freedom being gone?

I think you are over-reacting to a temporary situation. There's no wondering "if" we will get our "freedom" back. It's just a matter of when, and that will likely be in a few months if we and our government do our part.

Did I COMPLAIN?? Did I say it should be different? No, you can read it again. But we don't know how long this will go on, and it would only be natural to notice that we are NOT FREE NOW. But most people seem to not notice.

A FEW MONTHS? How can bars and restaurants survive that long? And theaters? And anything that involves gatherings of people, or any kind of interpersonal contact. Hair dressers, massage therapists.

I still feel plenty free. I just don't have as many choices as I once had. I know those choices will come back very soon.

Oh I am sorry, I did not realize you were rejoicing when you said

"Now freedom is gone. Will we ever get it back? Or will there always be some excuse, from now on, for restricting what we can do, for our own safety?"

That's because vast majority of people is reasonable... I think... We'll see in November... Nah nevermind, I thought about 2016 and I take it back.

My survival is more important than your freedom to go anywhere you want. This is not a difficult trade.

So you must be in jail, because I went for a nice relaxing hike today and saw some beautiful sites with the family.

That's a different subject than "freedom"

Yes, we are having extreme economic pain that will cause many businesses to suffer or fail. But life has its price, and we are trying to balance the economy with saving lives. There is no happy sweet-spot. None at all.

I think you are being a bit melodramatic. Its only been a few weeks.

Did you ever hear the saying "Live free or die" ??

So you must be in jail, because I went for a nice relaxing hike today and saw some beautiful sites with the family.

I take long walks every day, always did. That hasn't changed. And I stay home alone and work on my projects all day, as usual. My life hasn't changed, except not being able to see friends in person.

It's fine with me. But when I THINK about the fact that we lost our freedom, I face the fact. No one else seems to.

You wouldn't be making loose comments like that if you any idea how horrifically painful death by coronavirus can be.

Doesn't sound like you've lost much in your "sacrifice" to keep our healthcare system from becoming overwhelmed like Italy's has.

I choose to get on an airplane. I never chose to have my mayor lock down the town.
