Global condom shortage looms as coronavirus shuts down production

World’s biggest producer says lockdown has already caused shortfall of 100m condoms

A global shortage of condoms is looming, the world’s biggest producer has said, after a coronavirus lockdown forced it to shut down production.

Malaysia’s Karex Bhd makes one in every five condoms globally. It has not produced a single condom in its three Malaysian factories for more than a week because of a lockdown imposed by the government to halt the spread of the virus.

A shortfall of 100M condoms could result in a lot of unintended consequences.

A "shrinkage" if you will. ;)

Well... Perhaps all these people being stuck inside will lead to a new baby boom.

Hey, it's not impossible, this could very well change the way we live for a long time to come, there almost isn't a human on Earth due to the way the world works besides maybe the most remote of tribes, that isn't affected in some way by this and so there will be a ton of changes and unforeseen consequences that come from this, some negative, some positive, obviously the immediate economic and health concerns are deep and that's for sure but I reckon 5 years from now you'll turn on a TV story that will outline very interesting ways the world shifted and changed and there will be some deeply surprising stuff in there.

People could name their first pandemic lockdown babies Corona.

Ooh ya make my motor hum
My motor hum
Gun it coming off of the line, Corona

I think there's a shortage because people are self-quarantining and having more sex. It's either that or watch Fox or CNN news all day. (bluck)

I'm sure the plagues in the early Middle Ages had profound effects on different societies.

The news is so depressing that I tend to watch the Smithsonian Channel's Aerial America, reruns of American Pickers & Pawn Stars. That show about them buying abandoned storage lockers is also diverting. It's either TV or the internet.

There's going to be a lot of COVID-19 babies come Christmas time.

I know what you're saying, here too. My husband can't take the news so he watches YouTube videos of bloopers or animals, then there's Netflix. But for me it's like watching a train wreck about to happen when you know it's coming but you just can't look away.
