Trump considering NY quarantine

It’s a stupid and ineffective idea, but it has the appearance of “putting it” to a blue state, so of course his base will love it.

Fun fact: the coronavirus is actually spreading faster in red states. So while Republicans are sick and dying they can take comfort in knowing that trump is still trolling the libs.

Your insight seems spot on.

The President of all 50 United States has basically "hung up" his emergency phone line with the Governors of Michigan, Washington and California.
Because they lacked appreciation.

The only reason he hasn't stuck it to New York yet is because Andrew Cuomo has held very effective daily news broadcasts on CNN in which the governor
illustrated by his superb grasp of the facts and the medical details that he is one of the nation's most outstanding outstanding crisis managers working to diffuse the pandemic.
By contrast, New York City nurses and doctors are getting infected every day because the face masks promised over and over by Trump and Pence have yet to arrive.

The logistics of a NY, NJ and CT quarantine are interesting. The number of roads which connect these states to the rest of the US is very large. Perhaps those who are now unemployed can be given a quick course in what to do to keep those under quarantine from leaving the area and then be posted at each road where it crosses a border. Then there's the airfields and the marinas. There are train lines to consider also. Not to mention all of the wooded areas which overlap a border. How far apart will quarantine guards have to be placed along these areas to ensure that folks don't back-pack past?

We're in for an interesting display of federal government [insert appropriate word].

Regards, and stay well.

Airfields can be closed and airspace can be closed.

Railroads and federally regulated, and you would probably block at lest three quarters of the roads with barriers and funnel remaining traffic into a smaller number of roads manned by checkpoints.

Sure. I've seen dozens of films which included check points with armed guards, razor wire and machine gun nests. Wow! This is getting so exciting!
But even if Trump and Barr enact marshal law I still won't vote for him!

When they approach the numbers NY has, they can get a 3 week time out too. It's time to save lives.

More helpful would have been if our President had acted decisively a month ago.
Trump is sworn to protect and defend this nation. He could have done that by enacting federal powers in February to distribute all available hospital
ventilators and personnel protective gear to FEMA centers and military bases around the nation so all regions could quickly mobilize.

At the same time Trump SHOULD HAVE ordered the production of large quantities of the items specified by the CDC and NIH as most critical to fend off a pandemic.
Unfortunately he chose to downplay a global pandemic as just another flu. New York is America's most international city. We are paying a disastrous price which
has been made far worse by weeks of federal inaction.

Trump says he's considering 2-week quarantines on New York, parts of New Jersey and Connecticut

I'm not sure Trump has the legal authorities to order this and how it would be enforced. In any event, it is probably too little and too late for New York City.

Elmhurst Hospital in Queens is overflowing with COVID patients. Hundreds of symptomatic people are lined up in the street outside the ER waiting to be tested.

"Legal Authority? I don't need no stickin' Legal Authority! I am the King! I derive my powers from Devin Manifestation. And my credit line from Russian oligarchs."

It's kinda sad that we have people like yourself that continuously mock those who may be victims just because of political affiliation.

It doesn't say much for you.

Take a drive up the eastern shore of Virginia and see all the NY plates heading south potentially making the spread even worse. Rhode Island had to resort to stopping New York plates at the border because they are overwhelming Rhode Island.

.

You are correct, of course.
Remember one thing here and you'll be able to figure out the anti-Trump grumps.
No matter what Trump does to help curb the spread, it will always be wrong and his fault.

Cv19 is already spreading faster in red states. The idea of quarantining New York only has the usefulness of validating your hatred for blue states.

Irrelevant.

Facts have been irrelevant to you for at least the past four years. I had no expectation they would suddenly start being relevant to you now.

Yes, and delaying federal action further will not help things. Lock it down, quarantine the hot spots until cases get under control. The DPA has been put into action, and if we can flatten the curve by stopping NY et. al from spreading it outside their borders we can save lives across the country.

Oh come on!!! On one hand you're excoriating the guy for not locking down the nation back in December or November and now you're talking about "he doesn't have the authority". Which way is for you people?

As far as this lockdown, if it goes forward, I expect the people of the tri-state area to absolutely relish in the example that they will be setting for the rest of the nation as to how to willingly and graciously accept the social welfare state in action.

Resist, resist, resist, 'cause Oh Trump is orange man bad, and a big fat meanie and wants people to die.

Only the cult wants a messiah. The rest of the world wants a functional human.

The rest of you can help elect Andrew Cuomo President. But first you'll have to wait 'cause he's real busy cleaning up the mess here in New York caused by
Trump's inability to recognize science, medical facts or reality. But once a lot of New Yorkers die, and when we New Yorkers regain our health,
we will be happy to lend a true leader who is smart enough and tough enough to benefit our entire nation.

A random person will be fine in comparison.

I love Boston & NYC & Chi-Town and have spent many many weekends in those cities. I lived in Boston as a kid.

Iv'e probably been to more Yankees games than some people who live there.

So. your BS continues.

Yep, it's all :bs.
I live in a blue state. Weeks ago that blue stater was telling Trump supporters who live in blue state CA., they should feel proud for having supported Trump because they're gonna' get coronavirus.

Consider the mentality of someone who politicizes this virus by what color state you happen to live in. Just :(

Maybe Cuomo is not the Messiah!

You mean like the fact he didn't know he had ventilators sitting unused in a warehouse while some hospitals were putting two patients on one ventilators. Maybe if the NYC health Commissioner had not encouraged people to shop and gather in Chinatown and to ride the subways NY wouldn't have such a large problem now.

Agreed. The virus is being spread by inaction and stupidity that continues on many fronts.
The good folks in many areas of the US continue to gather, travel and spread infection.
But the idea of a militarily enforced quarantine at MY state's border is a bit hard to swallow.

My household in the suburbs could probably manage 3 weeks without replenishment.
Most folks who live in New York City call apartments in massive buildings home. I fear what might happen if millions of folks are held hostage in tiny apartments until our infection rates level off.

Taking potshots at NY when we have become a battlefield is fairly classless. I guess my post riled you because you defend Trump on any and all occasions.
But as he so often does, Trump also took potshots at NY with his claim that Cuomo can't count.

In any case. America is under attack. And I would sleep better with Andrew Cuomo as MY Commander in Chief.
Here's the details you weren't aware of:

Cuomo calls Trump 'incorrect and grossly uninformed' about New York's ventilator situation as fight escalates - CNNPolitics

New Yorkers are tough. They can handle it. We don't need to be talking three weeks from now how we should have quarantined 2 weeks ago. Let's take action now and regret less later.

Kinda funny when you think about it.
Sure lockdown NY, also the states banning travel from NY.
I wish NY had banned all the spring breakers from the beaches in Florida and all the Mardi gra people from going to or thru NY.
Maybe just maybe that could have stopped some of the spread.
And to top it all off NY is testing almost more than anywhere else at least we have an idea of what's going on in NY we currently don't with all the states that are doing the blocking.

Why so empathetic for New York's filled hospitals? You safe in a bunker?

I'd answer, but I don't want to have to share my microwave popcorn stash with people infected by the Trump Zombie Rabies Death Plague.

Do you realize how many thousands of roads there are that connect the NY Metro area with the surrounding region?

We need to temporarily transfer medical workers that have recovered from COVID19 infections and are now immune to hot spot hospitals then move medical workers that have never been infected to low risk hospitals. This of course would be done voluntarily through bonus incentives. The more we can preserve our healthcare staff the better off we will be. A Doctor or nurse on a ventilator does no one any good. We now have a 15 minute point of service test. The test should be given to every hospital worker each day prior to work. We DO NOT need our hospital workers infecting each other or other patients.
