How many Trump supporters will promise not to cash their Coronavirus checks?

The $2 trillion stimulus bill in response to the coronavirus pandemic is now law.

The plan includes a one-time direct payment to Americans, which should arrive within three weeks. Individuals will receive up to $1,200, married couples will get up to $2,400 and $500 will be added for every child.

This is one of the biggest government interventions in the economy in American history, with direct, no strings attached, transfers of money to individuals. This is the kind of thing Bernie Sanders would push if he were ever elected to the office of President.

This is, by most Republican definitions of the word, socialism.

So...my question is very simple...how many Trump supporters, conservatives, "libertarians", Republicans, etc...how many of you will promise not to cash your Coronavirus check since you all hate socialism?

Well, I'm not a Republican so I suppose it's not surprising that I'm not up to speed on "Republican definitions" for various words. Could you provide me with this "most Republican definitions of the word, socialism" thing that you mention?

Anyway, I oppose socialism and according to the "dictionary" definition of the word this relief check is not socialism. So, I don't have any heartburn taking the money and stashing it away in my sock drawer...anymore than I would have if the federal government (House, Senate, President) decided to reduce the fees to use federal campgrounds to zero.

I am, or was, a Trump supporter. Still sorting that out. I will not be accepting this check. I will be returning this money. It is not our money. This is not a loan and it is not a tax return. I do not accept.

Let me be clear. The situation I find myself in leaves me in need of a cash infusion. I will not take it.

It is unconstitutional as well as immoral.

Wow.

And welcome to the forum! :2wave:

Are you going to cssh yours?

I am no longer a federal income taxpayer/filer (I have been receiving Social Security retirement for years and do not earn enough 1099 income to have to file). I no longer expect to be considerred as a "regular" US citizen worthy of such largess (for example, proposed "Yang cash" eligibility expired after age 64), but I'll just have to wait and see what happens.

If, by some unexpected quirk of fate, my account does receive this federal reward for being a US citizen I will try to spend it in a patriotic manner.

Go ahead and file a return for 2019, and see what happens.

Like you, I no longer receive an income and ceased being a federal taxpayer several years ago. Since my State doesn't have an income or sales tax the only taxes I pay these days are property taxes. At age 65 I got to reduce the assessed value of my home by $85,000 for property tax purposes. Which cut my property taxes by 40%.

I receive nothing from the federal government, not even Social Security. I do not accept the ill-gotten gains from unconstitutional programs, even after paying into it for 45 years.

i vaguely recall a few decades back, citizens of alaska were given a brief opportunity to irrevocably decline to participate in social security payments/receipts

did you get caught up in that?

Affording some relief at a time when people lose their jobs, their livelihood, has nothing to do with a Sanders type socialism utopia.
Personally, we will donate our share as appropriate.

Unlike you, I do receive an income, thus am I am able to pay for rent, utilities, transportation, food and several other things. How you are able to survive without an income, while many with an income struggle to do so, is a mystery.

It was called the Alaska Supplemental Annuity Plan, and no I did not get caught up in that. My retirement income comes from my former business and the investments I've made. Alaska government employees where taken off of the federal Social Security program and placed on Alaska's Supplemental Annuity Plan.

The primary difference between the two is that the US Constitution permits States to establish retirement plans for its citizens, but it prohibits the federal government from involving itself in such programs. Social Security violates the Tenth Amendment, whereas Alaska's Supplemental Annuity Plan does not.

On the contrary, MAGAts will scream first and loudest that they haven’t yet received their socialist payoff.

I already earned my income, and paid tax on it. Then I invested it and paid taxes on those dividends. Now I live on those dividends.

All the Righties who hated FDR's New Deal and Obamas bailout of the Auto Industry feel free to donate your check to a worthy charity. After all you not want not want to be on the receiving end of socialism. And please no I pay my taxes cry, your grandchildren will be paying for that 1200 check for years.

Once and for all, Obama DID NOT bail out the auto industry. He gave them loans which they were required to pay back and did so fairly quickly.

Obama saved the auto industry. Much different than Bush just handing cash to the big banks with no strings attached.

1. There was an old saying: "There are no atheists in foxholes." I doubt there are any ideologues in times of economic crisis. Today's Washington Post had a long article about Congressional progressives ditching their principles to vote for the stimulus, so it works both ways.
2. Keynesian economics is not socialism.

Of course he didn't. First, he wasn't even elected President at the time of the TARP bailout in October 2008. Second, it was a veto-proof majority from a super-majority Democrat-controlled Congress. It was going to be law no matter what President Bush did. Yet another fine example of unconstitutional legislation by the Democratic Party.

Obama attempted to illegally nationalize GM, like Truman illegally nationalized the steel industry in 1952. All anti-American socialist freaks are the same.

The OP didn't make this thread for conversation or polite debate.

We all know why the OP generated this thread.

But, this particular OP looks rather foolish because he didn't take the time to differentiate between a "hand out" and a "hand up" before he was spewed his resentful garbage via keyboard.

All I'm doing is holding up a mirror.

It's your choice to look into it.

Question, since you people hate Trump so much, why would you take a check from him?

I don't think you, eohrnberger, 3leftsdoo, adpst, gdgyva, understand how our government works.

And, by the way, why are so few Trump supporters contributing to this thread? Are you all ashamed for taking this socialist money?

Also, I just noticed something POS. You didn't answer my question. So are you taking this socialist check or not? You even characterize yourself as a libertarian so obviously you'd refuse this check, right? Right? And you're totally not going to apply for unemployment benefits, right? Right?

As I noted earlier, ideologues at both ends have set their ideologies aside.

A far right Trump worshiping friend of mine says that "he has paid enough taxes and considers it to be getting money back that he over paid".
Him and his wife make a little over $100k a year, good money for this area. On top of what he earns through work he receives $1600+ a month in VA disability benefits for having sleep apnea, GERDS (Heart Burn) and a bad Knee.

To get where he is now he used Pell grants and GI bill to pay for college. During that time in college he received SNAP benefits.
But now he's constantly screaming about socialism, liberals etc. It's only socialism and bad when he doesn't personally benefit.

Yup, that is a shining example of how the cult "thinks". Thanks!

Well trump cultists are a lot like trump. Which means they'll all promise not to cash it and then of course cash it.

I support Trump because he is president.

I don't support him enough to not cash the check, however. We're going to get 6 checks, if they don't lump it all together.

T'was three years before my faith in the system broke. Trump must be marginalized for the good of the nation.

i'm guessing zero or one.
