Priorities USA Expands "Exponential Threat" Ad Buy to Arizona Following Trump Campaign's Failed Challenge - Priorities USA

On Wednesday, the Trump campaign sent letters to TV stations threatening their licenses if they continued to air the Priorities USA Action ad “Exponential Threat,” which holds Donald Trump accountable using his own words downplaying the threat of the coronavirus while the infection rates skyrocketed across the country. That intimidation effort failed and the ad is continuing to air across Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

Today, Priorities USA Action is expanding the buy into Arizona over the next few weeks with an initial $600,000 investment. This investment is in addition to the $6 million that Priorities USA Action announced it’s spending in other battleground states to hold Trump accountable for the disastrous impact of his failed response to the pandemic.
===================================================
Quoting Guy Cecil, Chairman of Priorities USA: “Donald Trump spent weeks downplaying the threat of the coronavirus and his inaction left the country unprepared for this crisis. Even today, his lies are putting the health of millions of Americans at risk,” “The fact that Trump is going to such great lengths to keep the American people from hearing his own words adds to the urgency of communicating them far and wide.'

Trump's threats failed to intimidate Priorities USA. The ad that they are running uses Trump's own words to highlight how he has lied & misled this country as it faces an existential threat.

The political left never misses a chance for exploitation during what's called a crisis.

The political left never misses a chance for exploitation during what's called a crisis.

It is what is usually termed PATRIOTISM.

A crisis that is being botched by an incompetent & unprepared president.

It will be interesting to see the ad. While they it is said they are using Trumps own words, I wonder how many statements are taken out of context.

It is a political ad and not news , right?

Here you go...

The Trump campaign tried to threaten local TV stations into not showing this ad, but since it uses Trump's own statements against a time line graph of the progress of the pandemic, they failed.

Interestingly, I saw a different ad on Phila TV that used 'Leadership' as its theme. Anyone have a link to that one?

Curbing the President's lies is good American behavior.

It is Trump that is trying to exploit during a crisis.

I hope they’re producing another ad, highlighting quotes from the Trump Campaign’s letter.

Here it is, BTW:

IF pointing out the obvious is exploitation, than you need to move to a police state. Somewhere where you got to jail for daring to criticize the incompetence of leaders, no matter how obvious it is.

That’s what you Trumpsters are defending.

Your fuhrer sends letters to free press threatening their right to do business for failing to tow the party line.

And you cheer for it.

Re: Priorities USA Expands “Exponential Threat” Ad Buy to Arizona Following Trump Campaign’s F

The ad is a collection of Trump statements. imo, what is lacking is the context around the statement. This could give a misleading presentation of Trumps statements. Much like when the news aired edited 911 sound tracks to show a police officer in a bad light. When the full track was shown it changed the perception of the event.

One needs to take political ads with a grain of salt. Most present a biased view.

I am not a Trump supporter. I also am not a fan of todays main stream news media. imo, the "press" has become more of an editorial platform rather than reporting the news. Some facts given with the majority of the story being opinion. What happened to the "press" just reporting the facts.

What happened involved several things.

First, newspapers never did that. They always represented differing political views. Which is why most big cities had more than one.

Radio stayed strictly neutral. At first, it was because the newspapers tried to keep them out of the news business, and later because people understood the power of electronic mass communication and knew that it has to be reliable.

Television hued to that standard until the mid 1970’s. That was when an ABC Sports executive named Roone Arlidge was made head of ABC News, with the mandate to make a profit on the news division. The flashy sets, celebrity presenters, and shallow content grew directly from that decision. The steady march to infotainment was on.

It accelerated with the rise of right wing AM talk radio. Which was never news, but which its audience relies on as a news source.

Television, in any form, is very poor source of news. By nature, it is episodic, visual and largely devoid of detail. It sells images, not facts. Difficult concepts and complicated policy questions are hard to communicate on a television screen. Networks don’t bother trying because the audience gets bored quickly.

Chris Matthews pioneered the cable tv shout show, and Bill O’reilly took it to Fox. Talking heads prevail, because they are relatively cheap and easy to produce. Each network has its cast of characters.

As for the rest, Fox put right wing AM talk radio on a television screen, so that audience could get a third dose of the same content they got from their radio that afternoon. During the day, Fox looks like a technicolor vision of a 1940’s news reel. Car chases, cat in tree stories, small town scandals, tabloid celebrities.

If you want news in this country, the Times, the Post, the WSJ, and a few others are about your only choice. The News Hour, Brit Hume, and the traditional network shows, NPR and the BBC are about it.

If you want news in this country, not that show on cable TV that pretends to be news, you have to go looking for it. And not on FB or 8chan.

I mistook you for a Trump supporter because you seemed to be excusing Trump’s behavior.

It would have been inconceivable for any political campaign to publicly threaten a news outlet like that. In this case, no editorial comment was involved. A group bought television ad space and ran their ad.

These are paid political ads, they aren't "press"....

Trump has not the power to pull their plug since it involves and election process, if it was treasonous material it could be done..

I agree the news outlets should not be threatened. However after seeing the ad, it just aired in AZ, my point stands. The Ad is full of Trump soundbites. What is does not have is the context in which the statement was made. Most political attack ads are that way. One reason I don't pay much attention to political ads. Check and verify what is presented.

imo, ads like this are not needed. Most Americans have already made up their minds of what they think of Trump.

How is this ad different than ANY other political ad that uses sound bites?

Very true.
One reason I don't pay much attention to ads. Like I said in another post, imo, most Americans have made up their minds about Trump. No add is going to change that.

I placed that ad in the same category of "fake news" on youtube and other social media. Context is everything. The ad is misleading.

It isn't much different than other attack ads. Some political ads have sound bites that give better context on when the statement was made.

Kind of funny seeing Trump's lawyers basically say Trumps' words are deceptive and should be removed from the airways :)
That's what we've been saying since the start of his presidency.
